CoverActionPro is hands down, the best. If you plan on making your own ecovers for your own websites, realize that the script can only do so much. You still need to become very familiar with some basic design skills using Photoshop. You can a lot of great tutorials on this aspect via youtube, lynda.com, etc.

If however you already have these design basics covered, and you are using it to sell graphic design services, then you will want the Cover Action Pro action scripts. They are the best. I only have version 1, but from what I have seen of their version 2 scripts they are well worth it. You will make your investment back easily by doing designs.

But if this is only for your own websites, save yourself the time and outsource the work. You can get pretty good deals on ecover design services right here on this forum.

I'm another fan of Cover Action Pro - I've got v.1 which is still great (I dont know if ti is available) but v2 looks terrific as well. Mark Monciadini provides great tutorials, backup and support.

There are quite a few excellent ecover action scripts around... the thing is what else do you need to design a beautiful ecover. The script is a part of it. The rest is your design skills and your feeling for it.

I use Box Shot 3D, it compiles your pictures into a 3D Box or Report style ecover, but you have to design your front and side pictures in GIMP or Photoshop first.

I wrote a book and the thing holding up having it printed is the cover.

I submitted it to 2 of the print on demand companies and both times my book cover was the wrong size. Would these ebook cover recommendations you've given be able to automatically size my cover to suit the requirements of these companies?

May I ask what type a book is it, like a novel. If so I am sure your cover would fit. Also was your cover designed in photoshop and was your bleed/guide lines set right?

No. eBook generators generate 3D pictures, box shots, DVD images etc simulating a real product for a virtual one. There are two types: stand alone software products and Photoshop action scripts which obviously requires Photoshop. I have never seen scripts or actions for GIMP or any other non-Photoshop program. Stand alone are easier to learn and use (IMO) but the Photoshop actions produce astonishing results in for more formats. You need PS skills anyway to produce the overall images to begin withl.

Both kinds require graphics skills - the ability to compose an attractive layout with both graphics and text. Both (in my experience) require skills in using a graphics editor to get the underlying image into the cover program.

To your point: creating a cover for physical printing - that is easy. Get their template or know the exact print specs and then simply create a graphic using GIMP or Photoshop. You don't need an eBook Cover generator to make into a box, booklett or CD.

If you have problems using Photoshop or your design skills are limited, I suggest to try the offer in my signature. I know, it's shameless self promotion, but this is a really cool software that permits you to create an authority eCover in a few clicks, with no design skills or any use of Photoshop.

The other solution is to outsource the job. There are great offers in this forum at incredibly competitive prices
