Default Ebook Software

I've decided to create my own products in the form of e-books. I wanted to find out what software you use for e-book creation.

All you really need to make your own ebook is MS Word or OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

That's the easy part, the hard part comes from the research to actually make a quality product people will want.

I think the best tool you need is, the topic what people will be interested. You can type your eBook with any word processor. So, pay attention to content of your eBook.

I use software called Ebook Pro for my ebook.

It will fully protect your ebook from the average thief. You don't have to worry about your work being uploaded to torrent sites or being passed around. I've never had any complaints from customers, very user friendly.

It's not cheap but it was worth it to me.

MS Word or Open Office. One you have the content laid out just save the document as a PDF. This functionality is built right into these 2 pieces of software.

What I'm looking for is an ebook program that creates a book. I can create pdf's and I have openoffice but I want to use something that has some class.

I have a program called exeBook Publisher which has facing pages that turn. It looks good but it doesn't offer a lot of options. So I was wondering if anybody else uses this type of software.

Presentation is everything.........

A bit off topic here, but pdf's are the popular choice over exe's. You'll lose some of the market with exe's as some people won't download them and some people with Mac's won't be able to read them without a PC emulator. It's easier to protect them, but you'd still be eliminating some customers.

Slightly out-of-date information here, Alan, if you'll excuse the observation. Most .exe-file e-book compilers (including the one Christophe mentions above) are now fully Mac compatible.

Hmm... wasn't aware of that. Will look into exe compilers again. I buy a lot of ebooks and haven't really run into books that were compiled this way. Will check it out. Thanks

I bought an E-Book creator and published my first E-Book with it and it worked great and was only like $10-15 bucks cant remember which but it was cheap, and effective. And you can resell it too which is cool. Its called E-Writer Pro its a clickbank product.

A few people have already said it but Open Office is your best bet as it not only allows you to turn your files into PDFs but's completely free too.

I've recently written an ebook on how to write an ebook in 3 days or less. I'm thinking of offering it as a WSO but if you'd like a copy send me a PM with your email address.
It deals mainly with how to write productively and fast, but I also have a template where you can just "plug in" your ideas and dramatically speed up the creation process.
It might not be exactly what you're looking for but you might find it useful nonetheless - and of course I'd love your feedback on it.
