I doubt there is any such thing as free domains.

.info domains are very cheap at Godaddy like a buck or so. And I'm been quite satisfied with hosting all my Godaddy domains on HostGator.

co.cc are free domain but basically they are subdomains. i use few of them and even be able to rank well on google. so idont think that the fact they are subdomain can influance the seo efforts.

If you are a new website owner, Inmotion.com or iPage.com is the best web hosting site for you.

They have very fast server that can provide your website fast access. Their control panel is very easy to customize. Their spam blocking service is very innovative. And if you are in need of multiple website then you need a hosting site with unlimited domain name feature.
In this case Monster host or blue hosting will help you. They offer unlimited website and free domain name forever.

You will find that more often than not, you are going to get what you pay for. Cheapest and free will get you nothing but problems. Registrars don't just create domains out of thin air, there is a cost to them.

Best thing you can do is look for coupons for Godaddy or Namecheap and then host with HostGator. There are others that are as good as HostGator, but in my time on this forum, HostGator seems to be the most recommended host. I host with them and have not been disappointed a single time.

In case you missed part of what Tim and Ryan were saying...

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use the same company for domain registration and hosting!

I agree with the other posters in this thread.

Hostgator costs peanuts for what you get. And free 24-hour online live support (you chat with a real person) is just great.

You can have unlimited domains hosted with them with the Baby Hatchling plan, which is US$9.95/month if you pay monthly, and it gets progressively lower if you pay two or three years in advance:

      Honestly, it's a no-brainer.

There are only two ways of getting totally free domains:
      1. use someone else's domain (eg Blogger, co.cc, Hubpages), or
      2. buy just one domain name and create any number of subdomains from it. But I wouldn't recommend the latter because if the domain goes down then all your sites go down.

For buying domain names I've moved over to Netfirms because they make the process so much easier and cleaner (Godaddy's site drives me up the wall) and they give you get free Whois privacy (it's automatic).

I use GoDaddy for domain registration and Hostgator for hosting.

I'm probably paying more than I should using this combination however I like being able to call their support lines if I run into a snag or have a question about something.

Glad you pointed that out, I forgot to mention it.

Absolutely, I couldn't have said it better.

Domain names and hosting are such a minuscule part of the expenses in this business, but if you get poor hosting, then that can ruin the rest of your business real quick. And if you can't get support for your domains or your hosting when you need it, without waiting hours or days to get a response email, then it just isn't worth it. If a web site is down for a few hours, that can mean the loss of big bucks.

I have been experiencing the same problems with HostGator. I have 3 hosting accounts with HostGator and all 3 are getting slower and slower. I think that they may have oversold their servers. I do have to say that they have the best customer support of any of the hosting companies I am using. I hope they get the server issues resolved soon, especially since Google has made page load speed one of their ranking criteria.

Do not use HostSo! I used them and as soon as I started to get some visitors (10+ per day), they suspended my account for using too much bandwith. When I asked how I can fix this, they suggested I buy a dedicated IP. I did this and paid on the spot. The very next day my account was suspended again and they said that the dedicated ip made no difference and they wouldn't refund it. I cancelled my account and went to Just Host. Until yesterday, I had no issues. However, I have been unable to access my site now for 24hours as it keeps timing out. I have just again started getting some traffic. They tell me Admin are looking into it and try again in a few hours.

I don't mind paying more to avoid these issues, so I also welcome suggestions. I haven't tried HostGator yet.

I can give my opinion on POWWEB hosting. I have had my personal website with them for a number of years. They are inexpensive and easy to deal with. Their support team have been superb.

As for buying domains I have had good experiences with CheapDomain.com

Actually, I would say it's ok to use the same company for both, as long as you have full DNS control over your domain name and can point it anywhere you wish.
Problem occurs when a smaller hosting company goes down - and stays down. It does happen and though it's rare it can be a big problem because you can't access your dns. If hosting is totally down - you have no control at all.

It's a risk no one needs to take as it's simple to avoid that risk.

Depends on what you want to be doing with your site. I started using BlueHost when I started doing a lot of work on WordPress (single-click integration) and have been happy with them.
