WordPress plug-in for Amazon.com

Hi all.

Basically I'm looking for recommendations for a WordPress plug-in for Amazon.com affiliates.

ReviewAZON looked promising, and it seems to present blocks of products in just the way I'd like, but even the developer has been unable to get it to work for me.

As an aside...

I have several WordPress blogs on different domains under my hosting reseller account on a host system running Windows Server 2008 + IIS7 and with PHP Version 5.2.13 installed.

The fact that it's a Windows server shouldn't make any difference. It's my understanding that PHP is fully supported on Windows Server 2008/IIS7. And the contractor who does my WordPress installations has certainly never had any problems. All my other blogs, using many different plug-ins, work just fine.

In theory only applications that step outside the comfort zone of "pure PHP" and make calls direct to the Linux operating system should be problematic on such a system.

I gave the ReviewAZON developer full access to my hosting account and this is what he had to say:

"So the issue is definitely database related. The tables get created successfully, but when you try and add any data (insert, update) it fails. Nothing gets written. I've taken a look at the database and I cannot find any where to view permissions for the ReviewAZON tables. My suspicion is that the user account doesn't have the necessary permissions to write to the tables, but without the ability to grant permissions on the tables directly, I can't be 100% sure."

But we can't see how that can be so, because apart from the ReviewAZON tables everything else works fine, including other plug-ins.

So if any PHP/MySQL experts have any ideas about that I'd love to hear them. For example, anyone know how to directly examine the permissions that apply to a given table for a given user account?

Otherwise, what's your favorite Amazon.com WordPress plug-in?

TIA

    Hi Soporose,

Hands down my favorite Wp plugin for Amazon is autoestore- here is a link to the wso http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...age-proof.html

I think I have tried just about every Amazon wp plugin- this is my absolute favorite. Hope that helps.

I haven't used this plugin yet. But it looks promising. I think it was made by a fellow warrior, but not sure.

I'm the author of WP Zon Builder.

Soporose, I'd like to publicly invite you to try my plugin, and offer you your money back plus $50 if I can't get it to work on your hosting.

I can't promise I can get it to work on your hosting, but I can promise I will give it my all.

The worst case scenario for you is a free $50. Best case, you'd be able to start building and promoting highly profitable Amazon sites.

Plus, WP Zon Builder is way better than ReviewAzon - WP Zon offers much more in-depth functionality, especially when it comes to searching for and adding multiple products to your site quickly.

Regarding your question about the table permissions... do you have phpMyAdmin on your server?

Deanna Taber, I bet you haven't tried WP Zon Builder. If you're willing to and will post an in-depth comparison of the two plugins in this thread, I'm willing to risk another $50!

I have a strict privacy policy and don't share the URLs of my customers.

If you look at my WSO thread, you will see some customers have shared their URLs. On the WP Zon Builder website, I have two demo sites up as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that WP Zon Builder will only post selected products as individual blog posts.

That's fine for some situations, but for my immediate project I want to provide my own articles and then have a block of related Amazon products inserted after the article, but as part of the same post. Or even better still, allow me to choose whether the block of related products is placed before, after or even into body of the article.

Regarding your question about the table permissions... do you have phpMyAdmin on your server?
Yes, but I don't know much about it -- I've always used HeidiSQL to inspect MySQL databases. Unfortunately the host won't give me the necessary rights to use HeidiSQL's User Manager feature, which provides access to viewing and setting permissions. I'm guessing the same restriction will apply to phpMyAdmin, but if you tell me what to look for I'll investigate.

Yes, you can do that with WPZonBuilder. You can add a block of related Amazon products inside the article, as part of the same post. You can put it anywhere - before, after, or inside the article. You can even put multiple blocks of products in one article. You can specify the individual products to be displayed, or you can enter search parameters and every time the results change on Amazon, the new results will be automatically shown on your site.

See "Add Amazon Products To Any Post" on the Features page of the WPZonBuilder website for more info and a screenshot.

  • Just an FYI, I've fixed this issue for you. Once I found out you were running InnoDB instead of MyISAM I realized what the issue was.

For anyone else who maybe hosting on windows and running Wordpress on MySQL, you may find this fix helpful. This particular server is running InnoDB as the default sql engine instead of MyISAM.

When ReviewAZON creates the tables necessary to hold the product settings and other data, it uses the default engine which is MyISAM.

The fix was to alter the create script for the tables so that they were created with the default engine for this server which is InnoDB.

Once that was updated, I simply clicked the reinstall ReviewAZON button in advanced settings and recreated the tables with the proper default database engine.

Per my email to you earlier, I am sending you an updated install zip file that has this fix for you so that you can install on your other servers.

    Best,

    Brad
