Thunderbird vs Outlook?

I have been using Thunderbird for a while and I have been very happy with it, but I recently started a new venture and started using Outlook.

I feel that my Outlook is a little slow and not really at the level of Thunderbird in terms of speed and functionality.

So my question is what do you use? Thunderbird or Outlook or maybe something else, and why?

Thunderbird gets my vote. It's open source and extremely well supported.

Thunderbird is open source and multi platform.

Users have control over the software versus a company meaning your email is safe for years to come without having to worry about changes in licensing or terms down the road.

I switched to Thunderbird a couple of years ago and never looked back. I've always found Outlook limited, and the spellcheck only works if you've got MS Word (or at least the version I was using did).

As far as I'm concerned: Thunderbird's are go!

Great advice, this is exactly what I wanted to read. I am not that happy with Outlook and this thread has helped me to make the decision that I am going to move my other email account over to Thunderbird.

    Thunderbird rocks!!!!

Thank you for posting and sharing your experiences

I also use Thunderbird- version 2.0.0.24
I have been using Thunderbird for several years with no problems.
I recently upgraded to version 3 and it gave me problems and I didn't like it, so I rolled back to the latest version of 2

I use Outlook Express and fits my needs perfectly. I had thunderbird and uninstalled it. I did not find the extra stuff in it useful for me.

I use a program called Zimbra Desktop in which most people probably have never heard of. I have been using Zimbra (open source) for a couple weeks now and I like it better than Outlook. I really like the UI and it also syncs my Gmail calendar in which I use a lot. No issues so far. I think I tried Thunderbird a few years back but I don't remember. Good luck

    Thunderbird does it for me.

The same handy tab-browsing style from Firefox and Google Chrome. The option to add plugins where needed, and the syncing with POP email servers works much better than any other program I tried.
