Got a new Macbook Pro

Well I decided to add a MacBook to go along with my iMac. I am slowly migrating away from the PC world it seems, but not sure if I will ever totally dump it.

Anyway, I bought the MBP in order to create a portable office. The reason being is because I am like 3 times more productive away from home office (pets, TV, fridge etc.) because of such distractions. So I will be visiting the beach more often, but also the libraries and coffee shops. I also got a portable internet device to go along with the MBP and will be making use of it while mobile.

These are the things I have already loaded onto my MBP as being related to the things I will be working on.

iWork
MacSpeech
Skype
MobileMe
DropBox
Skitch
Chrome

Now I use screenflow a lot but I don't expect to be using that on the MBP too much, but will download it anyway for special situations. Same thing with Parallels, as I will save that for using it on iMac.

So did I miss anything (software) for MBP?

Congratulations on your new Macbook Pro! I myself just picked one up too. I like the Operating System much more than Windows. I too feel more productive on OSX.

The programs you have listed seem legitimate and will serve you well. I would also look into:

    FileZilla-FTP Client
Burn-A burning program for .iso and other files
VLC-For a great codec video player

I got my first Mac notebook computer in 2000. Got a Powerbook G4 in 2004 and just sold it in Singapore for $90. It worked great the whole time.

What I found in terms of internet marketing, though, is that so much software runs on PC platforms only. I made the switch to a PC laptop and have found it easier to use because of that. Everyday, though, I miss the artistry and style of the Mac. It just feels better to use.

And now, with the Parallels, you can run PC software too on a MAC. But my friend who does it reports that it slows the machine down and makes for extra work (moving documents between the screens.)

First impressions, Yes! I got the anti-glare screen and am sitting in direct summer sunlight right now typing this. Wowza!

Been on an iMac for a year now, and really I think both machines can do much the same now, but with Mac, and the programs available for mac as well as the OS, I just simply find it more efficient and enjoyable.

Yes, I used to have Macs way back before the internet, but was forced to switch to PC during Apples near death period.

I have been using Parallels on the iMac and have found it rather efficient too. Oddly, the Windows XP works better on my iMac than it does on my old PC!

I have also found that I can do rather much anything IM concerned on either machine, so I have not really been limited.

I've been using Macs for a couple of years now and I can say that I've enjoyed the experience. I just got a new MBP and it is hands down the best computer I have ever owned.

        As for apps I'd recommend:

        1Password
        Imagewell
        Little Snitch
        Pixelmator
        Acorn
        Soulver
        VLC
        Appzapper
        Handbrake
        PDFClerk Pro
        SuperDuper!
Market Samurai (build on Adobe Air)
Domain Samurai (build on Adobe Air)
        Adwords Editor
        OmniFocus
        Evernote

Have fun with the new Mac, you are going to love it.

If you do much writing, you will want Scrivener! It's my most-used computer app between both my Mac and my PC (I am a writer, though )

I made the switch to MacOSX because I was sick of the Windows environment. As a Computer Networking Technology student I was able to really learn the ins and outs of the Windows OS. The fact that programs are tied to the operating system is what makes me weary. This is why the registry is such a hassle for many people. Also, viruses, poor code, etc.

I would recommend that everyone at least try MacOSX or try a distro of Linux.
