Hi, just currios to ask what monitoring you use for your checking your website uptime. I prefer a hosted service and don't mind if it is paid or not. Here my experiences: I visit my site (the CPA one in my signature) and it loads. Yesterday I got an email from one of my affiliates, saying that the website is down. I visited from my Chinese IP address and it worked. I turned on my VPN connection and checked it from "England" and it worked. I changed my connection to LA and it worked. I used (and using) Free website monitoring service: Montastic (free services, as I'd like to test it before paying anything) and it says right now, that my site is down. Again, typed in the URL and the site loads without problems. So I went over to Free Websites Performance, Availability, Traffic Monitoring which I used before, and got my new domain up and running there (their interface is a mix of Germand and English, what makes it a mess ;-)). They say my site works without problems. Number three I am abou tto try is Web Site Monitoring by Keynote Red Alert, where I signed in for a 30 days trial, but their copyright notice is from 2003, what makes me think about giving them money after my free trial is expiring. The reason why I'm asking about your opinions about reliable uptime monitoring is, that I have affiliates promoting my site and just booked a bunch of tweets from a respected fellow warrior. I don't want to piss of my affiliates and also I don't want to throw my money out of the window without any results. Hosting is with Hostgator and domain is registered at Namecheap. This is kind of my standard set up. Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks in advance Sven PS: I'm going back home next week, so don't mind if I don't answer for one or two days ;-) Onflight Wi-Fi is still far, far away (and I appreciate reading a book without getting distracted by emails)... |

Hi Brian, thanks for your fast reply! Will try it in a second ;-) That will be number 4, haha. When 3 of them say my sites are up, I can sleep much better! When I have time I think about something more integrated. It is cool to know when my sites are down, but it still doesn't change the fact that I'm leaving money on the table. And I haven't started any PPC campaign for that new site yet. I'd like to have a solution, where I can be 110% sure that my site is up (or down) and then my software will change nameservers automatically to my backup hosting / server. So my downtime will still exist, but it won't be to long... Thanks again and have a great weekend, Sven |

Pingdom is pretty cool... They ping your box from locations all over the world so no matter what route the traffic takes, it will make sure you are aware of any routes that could be down leading to your server. I have found it useful because sometimes core routers take a dump here and there and you can see what part of the country can't access your box. At that point you at least have insight as to what customers (if any) will potentially be affected. I used pingdom a lot in the past when I used to run web hosting. It saved my rear a few times because if services ever went down I knew about it before my customers did - and that is worth a lot! ![]() Brian |

Hi Bryan, just registered yesterday. It seems Pingdom is the winner ;-) It shows me an uptime of 100%, where monastic says all the time that my site is down. Best and thanks again, Sven |

Here's another you can try for free, and reasonable prices. I have been using it for many years, and love the SMS alerts option as it's quicker than emails on my phone. http://www.downtimealarm.com/en/ - Vincent |
