Avoid HostNine Hosting For Now

I used to recommend HostNine for hosting. They do have a lot to offer in terms of geographic diversity and IP address diversity.

Sadly, they're also currently offering excessive downtime, server node inaccessibility caused by improperly configured firewalls and other related problems since a shift to new servers. Their support is responsive and gets problems cleared up relatively quickly but it has gotten to the point where it is more than just an occasional glitch but a constant, ongoing, headache. Plus, due to these problems, I've lost traffic to my sites and thus money.

Hopefully, these problems will be dealt with and I can once again recommend their hosting service. But, for now, I can't.

I couldn't agree more, all my sites have been up and down all day today, think I may move elsewhere soon.

Oh, that's good news, because they are extremely competitive on price.

      Has the company been sold?

I had a host I recommended for several years - great service - great uptime - low cost. When problems began I assumed it was temporary but the second month into increased downtime, etc - I learned the company had been sold.

New owners were clueless and I moved my sites quickly - last I looked, the company couldn't be found. Suggest you check to see if there's a new owner if problems last longer than a couple weeks.

Any update on hostnine? One of the probloggers promoted hostnine that's why I've been thinking if they're services have pretty much improved already.

I'm using their UK service now, a dedicated server, a few teething problems with the transfer but very fast support to get it sorted.

It's been just under a month with them but so far so good, I'm happy with the UK server.

I was with Hostgator before, I have a similar spec server with HostNine at a lot less money per month. To me, the HostNine server seems faster and the support is quicker too.

When I updated/transfered my server with Hostgator it took them over 17hrs, with HostNine, it was 2hrs... I was impressed!

Another problem for those of us who use HostNine for niche blog/site hosting, they're greatly decreasing bandwidth and number of domains you can have on an account. That, on top of ongoing infrastructure problems and some considerable price increases, make them a "no go" for both niche site builders as well as those who wish to provide hosting services for offline clients.

With this change, I'm starting looking for a new reseller hosting plan with a different company so that I can begin moving my sites now although I have some time before my formerly 'unlimited' plan subscription ends.

I know this is an old post but still applies. I moved a bunch of sites a while back and it just been a headache. Website not available is a common thing that pisses me off out of imagination.

    Any better alternative out there?

This hosting is great to build a private blog network that's it.

      Try Arvixe or Stablehost.

HostNine was owned by ASmallOrange, and is now EIG.
So the same crappy host that owns Hostgator, Bluehost, Fatcow, Justhost -- and 50+ more -- now own this one.

      Leave while you can!

My affiliate site is now dead. What a nightmare, down for 24 hours and 2 days worth of posts missing. About 100. I`m over 20% errors in GWT but worse....it`s been back up 15 hours and not 1 visit. 200 a day, to nothing.

Lesson to me as a new affiliate marketer .

If pages index and then go missing your site is finished. Simple. I`ve had sites got down for 20 plus hours before but I never had a site lose a 100 posts that had already indexed. And its really that black and white. Before this happened 200-300 visits a day for high priced womans clothing. 5-15 sales a day at Amazon, commissions 5-100.00. (It was insane, I was selling Handbags that cost 1500.00), And now, after this debockle I have 0 visits, 0 clicks over to Amazon and zero sales.

This post is more about lessons for site owners than a rip on Hostnine. They did not do it on purpose and they really did try to recover it. It just happened and the results are what this post is about.
