I am planning to buy an iMac next week. Would like to know what software the Gurus are using to create high ticket video tutorials in Mac. Is it just powerpoint and screenflow ? Or is there any advanced softwares available that can add effects? Thanks... |

| You'll probably want to use Keynote instead of PowerPoint and yes, Screenflow is awesome.

If you will be doing these videos on your Mac, then do NOT get Camtasia for Mac. Screenflow is much better and somehow manages to capture and render large files with ease. I also use Keynote and Garageband in my video while in the assembly stage, then bring all of that into screenflow. GL and let us know what Mac you get! |

Keynote is part of iWorks and I think is about $80. You will need iWorks because that has all of your "Office" type software within it. Word processor, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, presentations. Screenflow is $99 I believe and an instant download. If you are buying your Mac new, try and see if they (Mac store) will throw in iWorks 09 with your purchase. Also, to use all of these programs, you might want to consider a 1 or 2 month membership at Lynda.com where you can access their full array of course, many of which are about screencasting and the products I mentioned here too. (I actually buy their annual membership every year because it saves a huge amount of money (and space) compared to buying instructional books. | |

Tools for creating video tutorials: 1. Screen recorder - DemoCreator: It enables you to make software instruction video from desktop recording. 2. PowerPoint and a PowerPoint to video converter: Make product brochure or introduction with PowerPoint first, and the convert the PowerPoint to video. |

Jing is OK if your presentations are less than 5 minutes. Obviously a Mac has much better video tools out of the box. For Windows users, it generally comes down to two options: 1. Camtasia - very popular and used by a lot of IMers. However it does cost $299 2. Camstudio - Free product which works very well, but not as featured as Camtasia. |

For Screencasts: Windows: Camtasia and Powerpoint Mac: Screenflow 99$ and Keynote 80$. Use the trial first, as a new version of iwork (mac office bundle by apple) is going to launch soon. You get the old version much cheaper now. Just google for iwork 09. For Presentation Videos: If you work a lot with Presentations ProfCast ProfCast - Welcome might also be something to get you started first! Runs on Mac and Windows 60$ For Video Editing: Windows Movie Maker and iMovie are totally enough. They are both free! |

I want to do some video tutorials with ppt and self narrated audio. I used Camstudio before and found that it's limitations include not having a zoom in and out feature whilst recording, which made it slightly difficult to see clearly some parts. I am looking for another software with that feature or any alternatives to Camtasia at a more affordable price. Anyone tried Desktop Video Recorder, Total Screen Recorder, Litecam or Wondershare Demo Creator? |

I won't be the first to share these solutions but if you're looking for social proof, Keynote and Screenflow.

Here are a few favorites, and free solutions! For PC, you might try BB Flashback Screen Recorder - It has a free version as well as two more full featured versions. The zoom and pan you are seeking is however, only in the Pro version [$199] Here is their website: BB FlashBack - Features I haven 't tried it yet, but have heard good reviews from a few folks. I am primarily mac based, and concur - Powerpoint or keynote with Screenflow are fantastic. If you don't have a presentation software, and want to save some $: The 'powerpoint' like software in Open Office can work well in lieu of keynote or powerpoint. And its free and both PC/Mac compatible. Its online here: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite |
