Socrates WordPress theme?

I am contemplating buying either Socrates or Thesis theme but I'm not sure which one is better, only that Thesis is much more expensive...

Socrates seems to be easy to manage and customize, while claiming to be SEO friendly. The main draw is the price though.

End of the day, I want a theme that can make a WordPress site look like a CMS, and yet is great for on-page SEO.

Anyone with experiences?

I bought this theme and all i can tell you is two things. 1) its a great theme worth the money and 2) when I had a support question they got back to me very fast great support Paul

Yeah, Socrates was created with Internet Marketing in mind. Which is what most of us are, anyway - IMers

Thesis may be more for the WordPress purist.

Don't know about thesis theme, but I love Socrates and it's well worth the 70$.

Saves time hunting for themes.

Sure wish I would have found Socrates before I purchased Thesis. Thesis sucks. This theme looks pretty cool.

Support is important. I've made a post on Thesis support forum about a month ago and was told the solution would be in the 1.8 version. Waited a month for 1.8 to be released and it still didn't fix the problem. So I bumped my month old thread and nobody is willing to help resolve the issue.

Thesis is a joke!

Chalk and cheese.

Socrates is for creating monetised niche sites. It has a limited scope beyond that aim. If that's what you're aiming for, it could be for you.

Thesis is a highly developed framework that can support any type of site desired.

I think you are missing another great theme you should take a look at. FlexSquezze.

If you are going to create niche related websites than I don't recommend you buy Thesis. Don't get me wrong, Thesis is the best Theme on the market in my opinion and I use it myself, but I find that for niche related websites, Flexsquezze give you way more options and for a lower price.

I find Socrates to have very little features and it is really strictly for creating niche related sites. Just from looking at the features you get with FlexSquezze you will see that they far exceed what Socrates gives you and in my opinion, Flexsqueeze looks better too (don't know if that matters to you).

Again, the first thing you need to decide is to what purpose you are going to need the theme. If you are going to focus on Internet Marketing niche related website, I think Flexsqueeze is the best option and for creating blogs, Thesis would be a better solution.

It shouldn't be too hard to see that many Google Sniper type of sites that are ranking high are using Flexsqueeze. Google some of the major product names that were launched over the past 6 months and check how many sites use Flexsqueeze. I can tell you that all the major review sites are using flexsqueeze. Not sure how much it effect the rankings but as they are successful, they probably know what works best.

P.S. About Thesis support. I find the support to be excellent and every question I had was answered within a day on the Thesis Forum. Never had any problem with their support.

I also use socrates but I need to ask, how does a theme affect CTR? Even though I've been setting sites up for a year, there is still so much to know, everyday it can be so overwhelming. So if you wouldn't mind helping out on this, I would appreciate it, thanks so much!

I would disagree with the comments about the framework.

Socrates has 1000's of layout combinations including.

one column
two column
three column
no header
squeeze page
salespage

And more features and designs planned for the future.

As far as the question about CTR. We have many customers who have noticed increased CTR on their Socrates sites over other themes.

Flexsqueeze is great, Thesis is great.. we're half the price, much easier to setup and our support is unmatched in the theme world.

That's why we've become so popular, so quickly and have scores of Flexsqueeze and Thesis users who profusely thanked me for making their lives easier.

I created Socrates because even though I knew Thesis inside and out and loved it, it was a pain for me to customize new sites the way I wanted.

Thanks Dan. Actually 90% of my sites are using it. A lot of my sites are on pg 1 and 2 of google but little traffic, that's me, needing to add to them, working on that now. I've set a budget for more article writing. You have helped me before with the tech aspects of socrates, sometimes it's fussy, like anything else and thanks for that too!

The latest version of Socrates is 2.03 and it was released on July 1st.

I don't really like the way Socrates Theme looks... I use Thesis Theme myself and am pretty happy with it. Very SE-friendly. I should give Socrates Theme a try though...

That would explain why I can't find it lol. Your Trial button doesn't work on your website. What does the trial involve?

Yes but when you hover your mouse over it, there is no indication that it is clickable. I just discovered that it is not a free trial anyway, clever wording though a little deceiving. I am tossing up between Socrates and JV at the moment and the deceptiveness of that form is leaning me towards the latter now.

I can't duplicate that issue. The cursor clearly changes in all browsers when you mouseover the button.

As far as the trial I explained this above as well. I'm sorry you feel it's deceptive, Clickbank has an ironclad refund policy, you have no risk.

We've had no complaints from the 100's of customers who have used the form since we added it a couple weeks ago.

However, it was also a temporary solution until we could program in a true trial version of the theme (theme locks out after 30 days), which we hope to release this week.

I used it a lot lately. Don't have to search free niche themes everytime, and it is very quick to customize to your liking. Some great features, very SEO friendly too (title clickable in banner, nav bar with no-follow option, etc.). I like it a lot actually.

Can the standard "wrapped looking" nav bar under the header be disabled to create an even cleaner look to the theme?

Absolutely. You have full control over that image and the css.

We also have a drop down mod you can install.

And... we're working on design improvements for our next release which should be in January.

I really like everything you have done with Socrates.

As a total newbie to building websites, I was able to create a basic website in about 10-15 minutes. Then I just play around with it to see what different looks I can get.

The only thing I'd like to see added is some more font styles.

I've used Socrates, it is nice but for my taste the design was kinda limited. I did find one here Catalyst that is very nice too and it has more ways to make it look like you want it.

Just my two cents here:

Socrates is the easier Theme I have ever used. It's possible to have a site running with ads in minutes.

The support is fast and they have provided fast answers to all my questions.

It's very affordable. Consider that it's a real lifetime license (not yearly subscriptions or obscure update policies)

It's fast to load and very solid

They are working on Child Themes for different niches

I only miss more templates for pages and possibilities to customize the layout of the content (please Dan) but for those looking for easy to use and solid solutions my recommendation is to evaluate Socrates.

Thanks for the compliments.. I'm not sure where you see that we are working on Child themes for different niches. That is not accurate.

Socrates already has a number of page templates and layout options

We are however getting ready to release Socrates 3.0 which is is major overhaul and includes new magazine templates.

What I love best about Socrates is the forum. I know that is not the question but it is the truth. And a newbie with more persistence than coding ability I have found some comfort in being able to ask specific questions and get responses - there appear to be several paid moderators and Dan himself gets on a lot.

They will discuss all kind of things - and very, very little selling of the other products available. I did purchase Dan's Adsense product and found it helpful.

Basically, no to little bull**** and real help available, a refreshing change in the challenging world of Internet Marketing.

Since I haven't used Thesis theme, I am not commenting on that but I am using Socrates Theme for all my blogs and I must say it's a real charm for newcomers.

I've very bad experience hiring a developer to create a custom WP theme so that I can meet even the smallest customization requirements for my ad sense units.

Since I've already read the AdSense Code, I knew Socrates Theme is created by someone who is experienced so I decided to give it a try. I must say my $77 spent on it really worth it because now I can install WP and customize my sites to a great extent without any technical knowledge.

If you are like me, Socrates is a good idea.

Socrates already has a number of page templates and layout options We are however getting ready to release Socrates 3.0 which is is major overhaul and includes new magazine templates.

I know that is not the question but it is the truth. And a newbie with more persistence than coding ability I have found some comfort in being able to ask specific questions and get responses - there appear to be several paid moderators and Dan himself gets on a lot. They will discuss all kind of things - and very, very little selling of the other products available. I did purchase Dan's Adsense product and found it helpful. Basically, no to little bull**** and real help available, a refreshing change in the challenging world of Internet Marketing.

Since I haven't used Thesis theme, I am not commenting on that but I am using Socrates Theme for all my blogs and I must say it's a real charm for newcomers. I've very bad experience hiring a developer to create a custom WP theme so that I can meet even the smallest customization requirements for my ad sense units. Since I've already read the AdSense Code, I knew Socrates Theme is created by someone who is experienced so I decided to give it a try. I must say my $77 spent on it really worth it because now I can install WP and customize my sites to a great extent without any technical knowledge. If you are like me, Socrates is a good idea.
