Hey Everyone, I'm looking for a WP theme that is highly customisable and more importantly I need one that can have different page layouts on each page. Example - The main page will have a central widget area and below that a main content area and a left or right sidebar, on certain pages I just want a header and one big content area with no sidebars or widget areas. Does anyone know a a WP theme that can I can choose the layout on a page by page basis? Thanks Andy |

Specifically I don't, but check Theme Forrest. Lots of options there.

Studio press themes are easy to work with, easy to hack and easy to create different page layouts on the same site.

The WordPress default template will do it out of the box. On the page editor screen, on the right side you'll see a section labeled "Page Attributes." Click the drop-down box under "Templates" for a list of options. Some themes have more, some none at all, but if you're handy with php you can make custom page templates for use with any theme.

+1 vote for StudioPress. I use their Genesis theme framework quite a bit and you can do various sidebar layouts like:
On a page-by-page and post-by-post basis with a click of the mouse in your post/page edit screen. They have many themes with widgetized home pages. Headway is another theme that is highly customizable without needing to do any programming. |

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I think I'll look into thesis and headway, can't really go down the "hack it" route as I don't know enough about PHP to even begin. Thanks Andy |

Hello Andy: Recently I also conducted a search for a highly customizable theme. It came down to a choice between Thesis and Headway. Thesis seemed like it would require programming to customize it. I don't know any PHP or CSS and am no longer interested in learning programming languages. Headway can be customized by dragging and dropping like a word processor. That made the choice for me. Good luck Andy, R. C. |

I agree with this poster as well. I was once in your spot looking for the exact same specs. I tried both Headway and Thesis and ended up sticking with Headway. With Headway, you can add, edit, and resize any part of the design layout and where pages, posts, feeds, columns, and bars will go all with real time drag and drop. In the "Visual Editor", you can adjust any color, font, and size of any area of the page and see what it looks like as you create it right in front of your eyes without having to save or refresh before seeing what your changes look like. You can also save each page as a template if you want to use the same layout on another page. Hope you find what you're looking for. Scott | |

Hey, I have been looking at the videos for both Headway and Thesis and I must admit the "visual editor" with headway looks awesome and just what I need. I have also been sent a message about a plugin named "impact page builder" which looks interesting, not had a chance to look properly yet but I will do before I purchase anything. Thanks for all the replies Andy |

I have Thesis & StudioPress - for a novice, Thesis is great to set up clean simple sites but not easy to create custom sites - not easy for me at least - I really like StudioPress, especially now that they have created a Thesis like platform with child themes. Will probably use thesis for simple affiliate / adsense sites and use StudioPress for an authority site I am looking to build (they have several magazine style child themes).

I was one of the beta testers when they were coming out with Headway more than a year ago. I was blown away then. And they've kept improving it massively since then. Headway is a fabulous theme for those who want tons of customization, but don't have programming skills. I've worked with Thesis on several client sites and generally recommend Headway over Thesis. Most people can do far more customization far faster with Headway than they can with Thesis, especially if they are new to WordPress. That said, StudioPress is still one of my own personal favorites. I've been customizing Brian Gardner's themes since the Revolution 1 days. If you are familiar with WordPress they are very straight forward to work with. If you're not into messing with CSS or any PHP then you will probably be happier with Headway. One note, Both Headway and Thesis can have compatibility issues with some plugins and with integrating non-WordPress scripts, at least in my experience. And last I checked, neither Headway nor Thesis were compatible with running a WordPress multi-site network. |
