Hi everyone. About 6 weeks ago I started using BaseCamp to manage projects. I fell in love with it instantly. I wish their affiliate program was open ... I'd join it in a second because I love promoting stuff I actually USE. Anyway, it's pretty reasonable from a price perspective, and it is absolutely the easiest to use "project management" system I've ever seen. I have several employees in the Philippines so I'm already spending over $1000 per month just outsourcing stuff. So the BaseCamp fee of $24 is quite tiny in comparison. It's working out very well for me so far. Anyway, I started with a FREE membership rather than a paid membership, and after about a week I realized I needed to get one of the paid plans. It gave me file sharing access and other stuff. I picked one of the cheap plans. I do need or want the time tracking features. My outsourcing philosophy is about expecting results, not counting hours for my workers. Basecamp website: Project management software, online collaboration: Basecamp (just so everyone is entirely crystal clear about this, that is a straight up link. I'm not an affiliate although I wish I could be ...) Who else is using it? What tricks have you learned from it? I'm always open to new ideas. |

Used it and loved it in a prior business but ended my subscription when that business went bust. I'd use it in a second again if I had a need for something like that.

I heard about it last year but I'd already created my own program that does all that and more so I never got around to checking it out - but I've seen good things said about it and probably would've checked it out if I needed something.

It's as simple as (simpler?) and as colorful as twitter's interface, to sum it up. Just like the rest of 37Signals' products (Highrise, Campfire, etc). Pretty much perfect for collaborating or communicating information on a very basic level (assigning tasks, sharing files, that kind of stuff). The ironic thing about these programs though is because of the fact that 37Signals' wants to put fourth an image of simplicity they intentionally outright deny functionality in some areas. Many users have made requests about additional features that are quite basic and 37Signals is very strong on their policy of keeping it simple. I guess this is great to market themselves legitimately - and also stick to their one true shining concept (the amount of users they get proves the success of this...) but if you do anything more than the basics of each business management area it falls short in features like that. I find it also quite ironic that none of 37Signals' applications integrate. Makes things a heck of a lot less efficient. Compare jumping between Highrise and Basecamp to an all-in-one system like WORKetc. |

For a self hosted project managment you should try ProjectPier.org. You just load it up on your own site (via ftp) and do everything and more than you can do on Basecamp. It really is awesome.
