Proxy Switchers Elite Proxies

I'm hoping that some people who are knowledgeable and have used proxy software before can recommend me what has been the best in their experience.

I've tried a couple of free ones but in the end they are a pain. But if you know of a good free one that's fine.

A lot of the ones I've tried are not bad in themselves but the proxies they pull are too public and die quickly and can be too slow.

I tried Anonymizer Anonymous surfing yesterday but I don't think it's giving me what I need. I still haven't made up my mind about it. Too bad since they use their own servers but I don't think it auto switches and the number available may be limited.

I've tried ProxyGenius which is free but when some proxies stop working it doesn't tell you and there is no way to deselect it or delete it from the list. It would be good if it said what proxy it is using at any given moment but it doesn't. It also pulls too many CoDeen proxies and others like it even when it doesn't say they are. Those suck even though they are fast because they'll cut you off and hit you with captchas and junk. The other proxies "die" too quick. Probably too many people hitting the same ones.

I've heard of Elite Proxy Switcher but I can't decide. It's hard to find any real reviews about proxy software in my experience. Most of what comes up is crap.

So, basically I'm looking for a proxy software that will give me control, have an automatic looping feature between proxies at intervals that I set, and has access to fresh proxies on a regular basis where at least a decent percentage of them are elite proxies even if it means I have to pay something for them. Not to mention intuitive and has good support. But I'm open to different opinions.

I've tried TOR in the past but couldn't get it working and I don't think it gives me what I'm looking for.

Thanks very much for any recommendations and experiences you can give.

tommyp: I should mention that I am the owner of IdentityCloaker.com so I may be somewhat biased.

But I will tell you one thing. I am an IT guy and I am pretty sure I understand my stuff quite well. Believe me when I say the "free proxies" are borderline scam. I am not talking about the web proxies - i.e. those webs where you enter your URL and hit "visit" but those are good for the casual use only in my opinion.

No, I am talking about those "free" proxy servers you enter either directly into your web browser configuration or use some automated software to do this.

Do you want to know what those "free" proxies are way too often? They are just misconfigured software running on someone's servers. That someone unintentionally allowed unrestricted access to the proxy server he/she attempted to configure properly but failed at (because it's not always simple).

They initially don't even know they have this problem until someone begins to really abuse the bandwidth resources they have allocated and that usually doesn't take long - that's why they stop working so quick most of the time. If you use such a proxy, you are actually stealing their bandwidth! And yes, they sometimes pay for it in cold cash.

Don't trust me - find who has the particular IP assigned and contact them. I bet they will be surprised if you tell them what's going on.

Some of those "free" proxies work even as so-called "honeypots" owned by hackers. I don't have exact numbers on this problem though. When I was doing some Internet research it indeed lead me to conclusion there may be many. I don't think the servers are rented by the hackers themselves, they are probably just compromised computers/servers.

IMHO, using those free proxies is a pretty risky business no matter how you look at it. Now don't take me wrong. I really don't want to bash the Proxy Switchers Elite Proxies software. The software itself may be great. But if they use the free proxy servers where THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHO OWNS THEM... Well, you get the picture.

Conclusion: If you really do need to use a free service, use web proxy servers (web based), TOR, or JAP. TOR and JAP are usually slow - *very* slow but should offer relatively good anonymity. If using web proxy servers, find the established ones ideally offering SSL (although this will not help you if the web you visit is just http:// )

I guess I will have to write some kind of a report on this soon...

    OKAY...

I spoke to Tomas for the last couple of days and I went with his software. IdentityCloaker.
By far, the best including user friendly software with top grade encryption of one of the highest levels not to mention Tomas gets extra brownie points for putting up with a pain in the ass like me.

IdentityCloaker is the top notch kind of software I like.

I am glad that I asked.
