My IM business is starting to take off and my email list is growing. I would like to offer a ticket help desk for my IM customers specifically.

Are there any good free ones out there or should I pay for one?

What do you use and why?

    I use hesk...Just google it, its free...I'm sure there may be better out there, but it does everything I need.

    I use OSTicket. When you get it configured right it is excellent, and also free.

    I was using OSTicket. I just bought Kayako from LicensePal - Web Hosting Software License Reseller and I'm loving it. It really is the gold standard in help desk software. Plus, there's an iPhone/iPad app that makes it easy to reply on the go.

    I wish I bought Kayako from the beginning though. I can't migrate old tickets from OSTicket and now I have to start changing all my links. Ugh.

    If you have Cpanel as part of your webhost, there are free systems there.

    I have come across "PHP Support Tickets" but haven't used it myself.
    There's a free version a $9.99 version and a demo on their site.

    It's almost impossible to beat Kayako for a helpdesk, and it's not very expensive.

    OS Ticket hands down. open source and awesome takes a bit of configuring but it is worth it way cool program

    I use Hesk for my members mentor desk. It has a knowledgebase built in and is hands down the easiest free helpdesk out there. An alternative is the free one from a company called trellis.

      Hello,

      I was using kayako a while back...but it did not work for me as I wanted, Presently I am using Vision Helpdesk , I can not many multiple companies using this single helpdesk due to there satellite feature, its really fantastic software with much more feature than kayako offered me. on cost as well its much less than kayako plus I got really good and friendly support from vision helpdesk support team while installing it and setting up my 5 companies easily in working state.

        Thank you all for your feedback.

        I decided to go with osTicket since it is an optional install right from my cpanel, and I really like it so far, easy to use.

        There were some other options in cpanel as well, but I liked the layout and use of osTicket. Maybe in the future I will check out others.

            Strange, I never had that. Perhaps someone hacked it and added a link to a bad cookie?

            I have now stopped using OSTicket and I am using Zoho CRM so all my enquiries, both sales and support are inside same login and can be sectioned off. I have enterprise edition so I can set security based roles and hire contractors to do various tasks without risking them accessing my entire database.

    I did test nearly all available well known helpdesk software like Kayako (very disappointing), VIP Desk, TicketDesk Pro which was the paid version of Maian (free) and now coming back to Maian.

    Most of the helpdesk software were too complicated to handle or were missing some important features but VisionHelpdesk seems to be a cool alternative. Thanks zcrafts for the tip. I will check out the owned version very soon.

    Before reading this thread I was thinking of switching back to Maian which is free available and if required in the near future upgrade to the paid version.

    From all helpdesk software Kayako was most disappointing because I expected much more when I paid $299 or maybe it was even $399 for it. When asking support for some missing features if they'll add them in future updates they couldn't answer this question.
    Now I have stored this expensive script at my hard drive together with other disappointing extensive stuff. :-(

      No problem Dirk, What I Liked about Vision Helpdesk is there support ,pricing and features far more better than Kayako for there stupid pricing they have increased presently. There supported updated me they are launching V3 very soon this year, will have lot many addon feature which are useful presently.
