Media Temple doesn't have cheaper 'baby' plans like Hostgator.

It is used by many major global brands and has seamless upgrading (no server 'crashes' during launches).

Media Temple doesn't have an affiliate programme.

When you say "It" do you mean Media Temple or Hostgator.

BTW Media Temple does have an affiliate program, they just don't whore it out as much as HG does

It's only $20 a month. Thats pretty cheap for decent hosting. Theres a lot of fly-by-night crap hosts out there that will put you on an overloaded server, make you jump through hoops to get SSH access and then stick you with cpanel for less money. For me, for the money, I'm with MT.

I moved most of my accounts and my clients accounts there in 2007 and havent looked back. I've had one outage since 2007 (happens with any host) and MT gave me a year free hosting on all my accounts to compensate me for the day of downtime they had.

I really think they are the best hosting option out there short of rackspace. You can get someone on the phone, you get full SSH access and you can add specialty VPS units (containers) as needed.

you can have a decent grid server account for $20/month at media temple and if you think you might need to send a lot of traffic to your pages then this is probably the way to go. i have an MT account and a hostgator account and now i build all my new sites on MT. it's a little harder to figure out how to do stuff on MT, so that's the only wrinkle. support is very good though, so i just shoot of an email when i cannot figure something out.

I have an MT account and when I fix all of my passwords
and databases in there, I will be moving all my sites over.

Seriously, it's good and speedy on the draw.

"The Grid" at MediaTemple is extremely unstable. Beware. I read reviews about the instability years ago and it's still a problem.
If you're currently using MT, invest in SiteUptime's 5 min monitoring to find out your real uptime.

If you are looking for cloud hosting, check out Rackspace or Storm Cloud Servers - A Liquid Web Company. I personally use LiquidWeb VPS and Hostgator.

Hostgator is better when you are just starting out - when you need some more power then media temple has what you need, just not so newb friendly.

By the time you are ready for media temple the extra money is well worth it

I use MT. It's really reliable.

Their technical support guys are there 24/7 and are pretty much geniuses.

Not too long ago, I accidentally deleted a huge database with a bunch of WP sites saved on it.

      Oops!

      Didn't have a backup.

      But fortunately MT did.

I'll be a customer for life.

I've never used Media Temple, but I am a long time user of Hostgator. Hostgator has always worked very well for me, no issues and very stable. The support, when I've needed it has been good. Not "great", but good.

I like the reseller account that gives me different cpanel's. I only wished I could "oversell" the bandwidth in the accounts to myself, as I don't actually resell hosting, just use them myself. What that means is that I have to "assign" a bandwidth to each of my cpanel accounts, whereas I wish I could just have them all virtually share the total amount given to me.

That's only 1 minor thing, beyond that Hostgator has been great for me!

It's a great host, if you have no server load.

As soon as you add something with load you
      have issues. I've had a 1and1 account for 3
years now, or my parents do if you will .

My first site was hosted there, and still
      is.

When I brought the load up on it though, it
      really crashed.

    Hi
I have only used host gator to be honest and find it very good. I had one problem which i got a response on very quickly. So the service and hosting seems to be very good so far.

I have used hostgator, 1and1, and mediatemple. They are all good in different ways. However, I strongly advise everyone to check out FatCow. They have better customer service and I personally think the cPanel is much easier for newbies. The only downside is that subdomains are not free like 1and1. Check them out at tryfatcow.com (that domain is an affiliate link but it is from Andrew Locke and it gives a price discount that I haven't been able to find anywhere else). Good luck!

Hostgator's Black Friday sale at 80% discount lasted all of 20 minutes before all of the accounts were snapped up. All I received while trying to secure my 80% discount were 'timeouts'.

PLUS, the system is so jammed that its also affecting my sites at Hostgator. Therefore they have a bit of explaining to do when I can get into their support portal lol.

I had MT for the past 2 years, it takes at least 45 minutes to get a support on the line. Hostgator cust service has been good so far. I will keep fatcow in mind.

James_Harkin PM me, i'm interested in your affilate program.

      Hey James

The 80% actually lasted less than 1 minute and only 100 sales were triggered at the 80%. Got that directly from Hostgator.

Really disgusted with this 80% for 4 hours crap that they pulled (or until all gone).

      Regards

      Bronwyn and Keith
PS. Just another BS marketing approach that shows no interest in the buyers.

100 new hosting accounts was never going to keep the potential 1000's of buyers happy.

They just lost a BIG fan over this.
