Wow! Namecheap is FAST!

I've used 1and1 for domain registration for years, but recently decided to check out Namecheap after someone I greatly respect touted them. They were right!

1and1 is actually a bit cheaper, but they can take several hours to get you all set up. Then, it can take a few hours after that if you do a nameserver change to point the domain to your hosting server.

With Namecheap, it has been really fast! I've set up 4 domains in the past few days and each time the entire process (ordering + changing nameservers to my host location) took about 20 minutes total. In other words, I registered a new domain, created the add-on domain at my host, pointed the Namecheap DNS to my hosting server, and it was accessible within 20 minutes. That's really fast!

Well worth the extra buck or so I spend to get a new domain each time. So, if you're looking for recommendations on domain registrars, take it from someone who has been in this game for years now - use Namecheap. Speed matters, and you don't want to have to wait around for a slower registrar to get everything jamming for you.

I've always used Namecheap, so I'm used to how fast they work. I forgot that it's not always like that. They're not the cheapest but I like them.

  I've never used anyone else so I had no idea that Namecheap were particularly fast. I just thought that's how long it took for everyone. :confused:
  
  Recently moved all my sites to new hosting and although I was expecting it to take up to a couple of days, the sites were live on the new hosting account in about 7 or 8 hours. Is this fast? I honestly don't know because it's the first time I've ever moved hosts.

  I use Namecheap and think they are great.
  
  There is a bit of a delay if you register sites that aren't a .com
  
  I am in the UK so .co.uk domains can take a couple of hours to activate but that is not a problem.
  
  Used to use the hosting company to get domains but it causes major problems if you want to move

They are really fast if you setup the namerservers when you register. The other day I was doing 3 registrations and setup the hosting before I went to namecheap. When I logged out of namecheap and tried the domains they came up. Now that is fast.

Can't beat that kind of service.

I like NameCheap.com its one of my top picks for domains. In terms of getting a domain with privacy its actually cheaper than most IMO. Could be that the Whois privacy comes free with each domain registered..?

  I was the same way John. Started with 1And1 because of the price and eventually realized the same as you, that the overall process with Namecheap is way faster, and the price difference of a dollar something is less than a penny a day.
  
  Plus, after you have 50+ domains registered with them you can ask for a permanent coupon that for $9.28 you can get domains renewed, registered and the privacy protection renewals for 99 cents a year.
  
  Their new hosting service isn't half bad either.

Yep, I concur. Been using NC for three years and always assumed it would take at least 24 hours for nameservers to resolve. BUT, in November I registered four domains and had them all resolved within minutes.

But, I already had a hosting service. The time to resolve for a new hosting account may be the only bottleneck.

Takes a bit of looking to find everything and execute the privacy option, but once you do it a few times, it becomes EZ PZ

  Namecheap ROCKS.
  
  In fact you can get your sites up and running even faster if you point the DNS inside your account FIRST, then add it to your host.
  
  I'm usually up in less than 5 minutes.
  
  I'm running a dedicated server, so that may make a difference.
  
  But nonetheless, the are great. They'll even give you a frequent domain registration coupon code you can use.

No auto renew with credit card killed NameCheap for me. If you empty your credits, be ready to lose your domain.

I'll wait the extra day and get lifetime privacy and autorenew with 1and1 or GoDaddy.

Yup! This is exactly what I was going to post. Namecheap is great, and once you have 50+ domains with them, you get the permanent coupon that works with all your renewals!

You'd only "lose your domain" if you don't actually check the email that you used to sign up with. When your domain gets close to expiring, you get A METRIC TON of emails about it from namecheap to warn you. (starting at like, 2 months out you get 1, and then it just keeps increasing in frequency from there - they want to make sure you know, and I definitely appreciate it!)

Beyond that, never used 1and1, although I've heard of the slowness. Wouldn't touch GoDaddy with a 10 foot pole now.

I like namecheap because they're cheap. If you want SPEED, try godaddy! IF you set your name servers while ordering and have set up the hosting before hand it goes live pretty instantly

I agree with the previous post. GoDaddy is really fast, skip their offers, set your nameservers, pay right away. You'll be up and running in minutes.

If you flip websites - NameCheap is one of the easiest when it comes to pushing the domain name to the new owner. Just have them open an NC acct, and it's a one step process!

I haven't made a transfer recently at GD - but the last time I did it took several days for the change to take place - which is big if you are also going to upload the site for the new owner.

Namecheap rocks. And they are REALLY fast.

Usually I buy a domain name, check "Express Check Out" option - with default configuration - and 2 minutes later, when adding it in my CPanel, it's already available.

Can you say FAST?

And yes, their structure is very solid, fast and intuitive.

  I use namecheap exclusively so can't compare with other service. I like the 1st year free whois privacy and also like the customer service. I once bought and registered a domain name that is not covered by whois privacy (certain country extension is not covered) which I asked for cancellation. I got money back into my account within 24 hrs.

I like namecheap they're fast. But the only thing I don't like about them is that you have to have at lease 50 domains in order to get a renewal discount. I have 27 domains and need to renew 5 at the moment and they will not give me a discount.

I have 2 with Godaddy and was able to get a coupon code to renew 1 domain.

Namecheap is fast and the support is excellent.
