Hello Warriors:

I looked around and cannot believe there isn't already a thread on Keyword Winner, an incredibly-amazing Wordpress plugin by the brilliant inventor/SEO expert Daniel Lew. So here it is... check it out. I am relatively new to Wordpress, but have been a webmaster for almost four years. If there is something that I cannot get enough of, it is help with search-engine optimization.

And Keyword Winner does it big time. I honestly cannot see how I managed without it until now. Yes, it is THAT good. I don't write much on these boards, but I felt it was important to bring attention to this great plugin. It will make a tremendous difference to anyone running a wordpress blog.

Keyword Winner basically creates a mini-research space around the "Title" portion of each new or existing post, allowing one to research "right there and then" and get keyword monthly trends, competition and other amazing data.

I'm a writer, not a technical guy. But Keyword Winner has made my life much, much easier and is now positioning my site to grab much better search engine rankings. There are tons of low-search-volume keywords out there that can be grabbed with relative ease, and this plugin gives me the info that I need to seize them.

I HIGHLY recommend Keyword Winner to everyone who uses Wordpress. It is a "must have," in my opinion. It is very easy to install, use and its inventor Daniel Lew is a very nice gentleman who is willing to help every step of the way. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Rob

Not a bad idea, but for me I put much more weight on a keywords "intitle" competition than overall competition. So without that I'd have to go back to google anyway. I would never choose a keyword without knowing the intitle competition.

I would like to second you on that.

I use MarketSamurai, Free Market Samurai Noble Samurai and Its is a bit time consuming, I was hoping this would solve my problem, considering I do several posts everyday.

Best for most people is probably to do the research in MS, and find a ranking post in MS and publish it directly from MS.

I hope Daniel Lew will put more effort into fixing the problem.

      1. In title competition
      2. In link competition

These are them most important criteria in determining the competition.

I would like to see a tool for longtail keywords, a plugin that will replace Wordtracker, which has a yearly fee of $300+

Thanks for pointing that out about the intitle competition.

@chi-whiz The problem you´re experiencing with permission are due to that your administrative account is missing the rights to 'manage_options' in wordpress which it should have by default. If you have removed it or if your rights table is corrupted is impossible for me to say. But after a bit of research KeywordWinner's main developer found a few posts where others have had problems with administrative rights after updating their blogs,

WordPress › Support » No "Upgrade" subpanel under Tools

Since KeywordWinner is using this code in the pages "Google Login Settings" and "Licensing Page"

        Code:
        if (!current_user_can('manage_options'))   {
                wp_die( __('You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.') );
            }
I can with 100% say that you´ve corrupted/altered administrator rights on your blog.

Well, at last. You must be right -- I tested KW on a site that is brand new and for which I really am not going to have any use for it since all the keyword research has been done to a T and the site is only going to have 5 or 6 pages to it total, and guess what. It works. Thank you VERY much.

I'll go talk to my host's support people about the problem. Cross your fingers for me.

Well, I'm disappointed. I can't use it. The installation instructions are for crap for a non-techie like me, and the "support" isn't.

Can you or anyone tell me how to get the permissions properly edited? There's a section of the very, very brief installation instructions that reads:

    2, Edit permissions on

    wp-content/plugins/keyword-winner/output/google_insight_cookie.txt
    wp-content/plugins/keyword-winner/output/google_trends_cookie.txt

    to "read","write" for all like

    chmod 666 /wp-content/plugins/keyword-winner/output/google_insight_cookie.txt
    chmod 666 /wp-content/plugins/keyword-winner/output/google_trends_cookie.txt

And I haven't a clue what it means. But I have to do something, because I can't even get past the Licensing and Google Sign-on because of a permissions problem. Here's the message I'm getting for those: "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page."

    Anyone??

I assume you know how to transfer files to a hosting server through an FTP software. You can use the free FileZilla for this.

These instructions are for the FileZilla FTP software:

      - Once your file is on the server, right-click on the file name.
      - Select "File permissions..."
      - The "Change file attributes" dialog window will pop up.
      - Type in the required permissions setting in the "Numeric value" text box. In this case, you need to enter 666.
      - Click the "OK" button.

That's it and your file's permissions will be changed.

Let me know if you need further help.

      Thanks.

Alex -- you are a genius, a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks so much. I was able to do just as you said, and I feel I'm the wiser for it.

Unfortunately, that didn't help me get through the message that I don't have sufficient permissions to access the licensing page and the google page. Bummer.

What would be the effect of also choosing "execute" as one of the permissions? Nope, that didn't work either. I'm so bummed.

        But thanks again.

Well, of course: BlueHost support wouldn't touch it. What was I thinking asking them to muck around in my websites' code? Oh well. Keyword Winner is a great idea (and like I said, I need it), too bad it won't work for me.

Upddate -- I thought it was lovely that the head developer created a special script to fix my permissions problem. Unfortunately, it didn't work and I got a prompt refund. I sure did appreciate the effort and wanted to mention that here. Thanks, Daniel!

can you please explain how this can help you find keyword WITH search volume?

I watched your demo and the keyword you picked had no google trend.

How does google trend relate to search volume? So what if you can win first page ranking if there are like 10 total exact search local per day?

I'm not clear, is search volume given within the tool?

looks like he uses trends. the explanation before was that search volume is tied to PPC so it's not relevant or something so search trends were used instead.

Personally i don't see that as the case. Trends are normalized to a 100 scale. How am I supposed to compare 2 low competition keywords if I can't normalize them relative to each other.. right?

also, allintitle or even phrase match competition is not really the BEST indicator of competition. that is just on page SEO factors.

Sure, most sites will not have a off page campaign going but if i see #1 has 100,000 backlinks to it that's not something I want to go after.

This is a good start and I can see how this could help quickly show low competition but really, who cares if there are 1,000 or 500,000 competitors?

Your only wanting to see if you can get on the first page. so your real competition is 10.

      yes. 10

and personally if i can't rank in top 5 it's really not worth it unless there is HUGE search volume.
