Can anyone recommend a reliable Reseller Hosting account?

I need to set up a number of hosting accounts for clients and had HeartInternet.co.uk recommended to me but most of the reviews I have read are not good.
Please could anyone recommend a good, reliable reseller host?
It needs to be Wordpress friendly and have good support and upload time.
I am based in the UK, as are most of my clients - not sure if that makes a difference?
This is a new area for me so not really sure what else I need to check for in a reseller account.
Any info would be gratefully received!

Hostgator is the way to go. Excellent service and support. I would say most IMers are using Hostgator.

        To Julie.
I am a Beginner from way back, but recently I had to give up my Shared Hosting to go to a Reseller account. (It was not easy). I was recommende to go to HeroeHost In India). All I can say is that they are one of the BEST in the business. With all my questions, I am thinking of sending them all a container of Valium. But they have always answered and helped fantastically.

    Julie,

I'm UK too and currently have a reseller account with United Hosting unitedhosting.co.uk - I've been with them for a few years and am very happy. In my experience a great service and (if you are unlucky enough to need it) paractically instant support.

Direct URL above - not affiliate links.

    Yours,

    Andy.

        Hi Julie,

I would actually like to recommend Heart Internet, I switched to them 3 years ago from Fasthosts and they have never let me down.

Their Tech Support is quick and very helpful.

They also have one click Wordpress install, myphpAdmin + lots more one click installs.

    Hi Julie

There was a good thread on here the other day comparing Bluehost and Hostgator, search for it because it had a lot of feedback.

Ulitimately it depends where you intend to be in 6 months or a year. Will you be creating a single WP blog or running hundreds of domains?

Whatever you do keep your registration and hosting with different suppliers so you can move in a heartbeat. Any TLD can be pointed to any supplier just by changing the nameservers.

What you need to be careful of is hidden costs, for example WHOIS privacy, some charge, some are free for a year and some free for as long as you have the registration.

You will see from that other thread that you can pay from around $4.90 a month started with shared hosting and just move up when you need to. You can use Pingtools to test the performance of your site.

Most providers use the Cpanel with Fantasico which installs in a few clicks, Dreamhost have their own version called one click install that is even easier. They do this for about 20 applications (Joomla, Drupal, WP, Moodle etc) and even have an API so developers can put their own apps up.

I recommend them to friends starting out but I promote Hostgator commercially because it makes commercial sense.

Now if you are setting up hosting accounts for clients and you are providing a managed service for their domains and sites, then checkout dreamhost, with your one account you can create unlimited domains, SQL and everything. They make the transition from shared hosting to dedicated or private virtual server as easy as pushing a button and dragging some sliders.

If you have a client who wants some control you just create a user, assign them permissions to do the things you want for the domains you allocate. You retain access control but they have all the things they need. If your client wants control over domain registration most suppliers allow you to create sub accounts and push the domain to those accounts, so you can register for them and then hand it over if required.

If you want to develop a close relationship with your clients this is the way to go, if you become a reseller with another provider you are effectively handing over your client for a small commission. If they go bust all your clients are in trouble, so always go with a big US based company with 99.9 uptime. You could always provide a monitoring service with a business continuity package to include rebuilding on another host within a period defined in an SLA.

If you want to check out DH I can set you up as a user for one of my domains for a few days. PM me if you need that.

I am not an affiliate for DH nor would I make a commission from a recommendation without declaring it. As I explained in the other thread DH are not geared up for recruiting affiliates, every customer can create coupons up to $97 or pocket the difference if they create a smaller voucher, I tend to just pass on their $97 discount or offer people a $50 code that supports my favourite charity.

(I have had 15 years experience developing websites and used many many different hosting companies over the years. If you are in the UK, btw, I especially recommend that you *avoid* Fasthosts).

By far, the best hosting company I have ever used, also based in the UK, are Vidahost. They are, for my requirements, spectacularly awesome. Brilliant service, ultra-reliable, super fast response to all requests, friendly and efficient.

If other webhosting companies have been a source of unease and headaches for you (as I have experienced many times) - you may discover that Vidahosts approach to and provision of webhosting services will at first soothe your woes by working well, and then, with a foundation of confidence, let you can get on with doing stuff that makes you money and makes your clients happy.
