Is 1 and 1 the best when it comes to static one page sites?

Their .com is only 4.99 per year and you get access to the website builder as well as an SEO setting thing where the meta title, meta description, and meta keyword tags are What You See Is What You Get. No need for HTML.

Not to mention, their private registration is free.

Can anyone point out the downsides of using 1 and 1? Seems like they're the best if all you want to do is make a one page site for Amazon Reviews.

I would not recommend 1and1. Their service is very poor. And, don't think about meta tags much. However, most of the hosts are ok in terms of SEO, 1and1 does not seem to have any particular advantage for SEO than other top hosts such as HG, BH, HM, Godaddy, etc.

I used them for a long time. They're probably fine for a simple site, but once I switched to Wordpress, they could not handle it and I had to switch to Hostgator.

I'd just use HG from the start.

I tried 1 and 1 but it failed. Their service is really poor. They take hours to reply. Godaddy customer service is good but their hosting plans are expensive.
Hostgator would be the best choice even though i have own hosting i would recommend hostgator if it is a one page site. If you just literally want one page you can PM me and i can set you up with cheap hosting.

Or you can visit here for my prices and coupons and mroe information

Ugh. Can't stand 1 and 1. Their servers are slooooooow. I typically use Go Daddy for domains and HostGator for hosting, but I found a couple of sales with 1 and 1 and decided to try them out. Yuck. Calling their service poor is almost a compliment. I will never use them again.

The only reason people tend to buy them is because of their cheap service. But as a wiseman once said cheap definaetly does not mean good. This is the case with 1 and 1.

When i used thier service it took 45 mins to transfer 200 files to the server. It says for itself.

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many negatives.

I still have 100+ domains registered with these folks, they were the lowest cost I could find for years on dot coms.

Also I've had dozens of sites hosted by them, from huge junky sites in the old adsense days to small white hat sites; I never had any problems, and when I phoned for support (never tried emailing) I got immediate solid service 9 times out of 10.

However I do use hostgator for anything new, mainly because most of my work these days is with WordPress and cpanel is more convenient.

1 and 1 is by far the worst service provider I've ever had. And if you ever need to cancel your service...forget about it. You get to talk to some jackass that makes 8 bucks an hour and tries to bully you over the phone.

              They can stick it.

It is very difficult to delete domains that you dont want to keep, and they will send you to collections for unpaid future hosting fees.

Is that even legal? I am on a month to month, past the 2 year contract (how did I end up in the contract in the first place?), for crying out loud. (yes it is legal in some parts of the world, where 1and1 is headquartered, I presume)

You think you have cancelled the domains but not... you will miss the double confirmation, not just online but through email. Even the support does not know how to cancel domains.

Almost impossible to downgrade service, they keep on postponing your downgrade by making you jump through too many hoops.

All in all stay away from 1and1.com

(Blue host sucks too... but thats for another thread)

Hmmm ... I'd forgotten about the domain deletion issue.

They dinged me several years ago for domains I thought I'd deleted, but hadn't because of the strange procedure ... I asked for and received a refund, but it was messy.

Wow! How ironic I should start this thread. After all of the warnings about deletion, I decided to follow up on a cancellation that I ordered months ago. It turns out, it has not been deleted. In fact, I have a renewal notice in the inbox for January 25.

I hope someone on this thread can help me with the proper procedures to avoid this possible headache. Meanwhile, I'm out of 1 and 1.

FYI, I called months ago to cancel a domain. The guy on the phone said he would cancel it.

I have been using 1and1 for years. Technical support is good. Prices are good. I tried Domain, web hosting, and virtual servers. Everything is easy to figure out on how to use. I also use their affiliate link to make money to pay for their service. I always receive my affiliate commissions on time without waiting months for the commission like other Hosts. The service is paying for itself through commissions. I am not familiar with the issues brought up by other Warrior Forum members. Some mention of server speeds or download speeds. This can be an issue with any host. Maybe some users push their web host to the limits? I have never used Hostgator but I may try it however I do not anticipate better service than 1and1. 1and1 and HostGator may be using the same server software and computers. 1and1 Web Hosting currently offers unlimited monthly transfer volume with six months free service.

I heard rumors that iPage was rated best web host for 2011  Also, FatCow, JustHost, ixwebhosting, hostpappa, myhosting, GoDaddy, Bluehost, Yahoo amongst others. All rated higher than HostGator.

I just ordered two of my sites deleted. 1 and 1 was very prompt at doing it. I'm sold.

Question: How can I turn a static 1 and 1 site into something more dynamic - by re-writing the text constantly? Will this work?

I transferred a domain away from them 3 weeks before it was to expire. They then charged me for renewing it the day after it was transferred - 3 weeks early renewal charge. Needless to say, since it had been transferred away already, the added year wasn't put in the registration.

When I tried to get a refund, they totally ignored anything to do with the dates and the fact that they hadn't in fact renewed it. Their only response was "no refunds on renewals". I went to my credit card company to fight it and they said same thing. No refunds on renewals so even though they didn't renew it, they still got to keep the money. RUN FAR FAR AWAY

Getting refunds on domain renewals is out of the control of any web host. Just turn off auto renew then there will be no charge. If there was a charge after the domain was transferred, then it must not have been transferred correctly. There is some type of transfer verification process that must be completed or the domain is not transferred correctly. Transferring domains correctly is a tedious process.

Avoid 1 and 1 like the plague.
They make it almost impossible to cancel anything or move domains.
In the end they managed to disassociate themselves from MY domains in such a way that I had to pay the country registrar 5 times the market price to get them listed with another company.
10 years on - they still owe me money.

I get my domains from there!

Never had a problem myself but then again I've never canceled a domain.

This is an amazing but ultimately futile discussion.
I have used 1 & 1 (UK) for 10 years and have found them to be truly superb. If I have a significant project that is large then they are always my first choice.

For the Mighty HG however I cannot think of anything good to say about them. They permanently lost 2 massive blogs for me and told me it was hackers - And that was my point. (I had backed them up)

So you see the problem. You like one I like another. You just have to make a decision and go with it.
