Real Paypal Alternative

I am looking to find an exact Paypal alternative. Not a merchant account or payment gateway.

Is there any company / service out there quite like Paypal for the US? or do they have no competition for exactly what they do?

Google checkout is really the best option. Not too many people use/trust alertpay in my experience. 2checkout is another option, still not very popular

You could look into moneybookers. With it you can accept credit and debit cards, bank transfers, an extensive number of local payment options and the Moneybookers’ eWallet.

The guys at Imnica Mail are using AlertPay now because of some issues with PayPal (that are already fixed). Here's what they had to say about AlertPay in their last newsletter:

AlertPay is a very impressive company, and like us, they are a smaller, newer player, competing against some really big companies. They are very keen for us to process through them, and we are more than happy to add them as a processor.

We're adding AlertPay as an option. Will see how things go over time. One great thing with AlertPay... They have no restrictions on countries like PayPal does.

We've lost many potential customers due to them living in a country not supported by PayPal.

I doubt PayPal will ever go away, but, it's good to have options.

        Hi guys,

Alertpay works in the same way as pp and is a top notch choice in terms of an alternative.

And as Richelo said we offer our services in more countries around the world allowing you to reach more clients!

I've used moneybookers previously for one of our ecommerce site, It can be rather troublesome when it comes to signing up an account, waiting for their whatsoever verification letter. But once all these are cleared it's pretty easy to work with. If your customers are not moneybookers members, they may have to sign up and undergo all those draggy verification process. As a results, biz might be lost tho

It's not really a direct alternative but one option is to put a product on clickbank and they take care of all the payments for you.

Yeah, and buyers can pay with PayPal if you use Clickbank. A lot of buyers preffer to use PayPal (not so many with AlertPay until it becomes more popular -probably anytime soon?).

        And.... it's Clickbank's paypal account.

This is an easy way to side skirt a paypal problem for those of you locked on your paypal accounts.

Your buyers can still pay via paypal, and you still get the money.

It costs you a little more though.

AlertPay looks the goods, and I guess Google Checkout is good.

Interesting to know if not using paypal affects conversions, anyone?

The short answer is Yes, not using paypal certainly can affect your conversions. The longer answer is, it depends on your product, your relation with your customers, market, and how established your company is.

That said, if your selling a ebook or product to people you have little to no prior relationship or TRUST with, then you should definately go with merchants that the majority of people have heard about and trust. I.E. Paypal and Google checkout. Just about everyone has heard about Google, you ask the same people if they have heard about Alertpay and many will say they haven't.

Also another Big drawback to alertpay is it's complicated as heck to get your account verified, enter security codes (if you already have an account),ect. And if it's a pain for me, and I do business online, then it's 10times more of a pain for your customers. And if they can't quickly find their security code they used when they registered 2 years ago, or can't quickly checkout they are going to leave your site.

So while there are many options in terms of conversions always go with a merchant or merchants (notice I said two) that the majority of your customers have heard of! The last point, is that in some cases having multiple merchants can also increase your sales or if you use a processor that accepts multiple types of payments. Like Plimus.com or similar, your conversions will generally increase because now you are giving your customers the ability to purchase with Paypal, directly with their credit card, echeck, ect.

So basically you are saying we can use Plimus instead of PayPal? As much as I know Plimus offer more payment option then PayPal.

PayPro Global (payproglobal.com) can be a good fit if you are selling digital goods or services online.

I have used both Alertpay and Google checkout, and both are viable options to Paypal. I especially like Google Checkout, as it behaves almost like a regular merchant account, and deposits money straight into your checking account within 2-3 business days of receiving online payment.

See, that could work for me, instead of having to withdraw all the time from Paypal.

I sometimes use ejunkie purely for processing.

I once recall someone saying that some people are more prone to spending any money they have in their Paypal acount because it's considered play money, or because it's not coming out of their REAL bank account.

      Hence the question.

From a personal viewpoint, I am most likely to hit the buy button if I can pay via my paypal balance as opposed to a credit card. But I'm lazy.

The only issue with 2checkout is a initial fee of $50 and your website/business has to be reviewed and accepted

I have recently added alertpay and google checkout as options. I like them both. Paypal is a biatch when I make too much money or move too much money between accounts, they have frozen me a couple times for that even though i have NEVER had a customer dispute!!!

As has been suggested, Alertpay or Google Checkout.

Google Checkout however is limited to US right now for merchant services - still waiting for it here in Canada :\. But the closest thing to, and best competing system to paypal would definitely be Alertpay.
