DL Guard, Hostgator, Membership and downloads protection

Hi Warriors

I want to upload a series of files which is one application. It
consists of
- Application files (database software)
- Dotnetfx40
- Windows Installer
- application setup file (exe)
And a database file

These are stored on one folder with the purchaser given a html link when
they pay for the product which when clicked references these files, checks if they have the required apps like net 4.0 and windows installer 3.1 then instals the application on their PC with the data. Although this was outsourced the download and website stuff has not been and will cost a bundle for a one off design.

The files are not individual products as such but are stored in one folder
which is accessed via a HTML link which kicks off the download process -
and later this will be the folder where upgrades can be automatically
accessed by the user when necessary.

Now I am at the stage of putting the product on a website which I have built in Hostgator which has a sales page and a few other legal type pages and that will be the download site.

(My main Site is with SBI but that doesn't host PHP type products)
AND I am looking at ways to secure the download page.

Currently I am thinking of using DL Guard and have had NO experience of
putting a product for sale on the internet. So far I have just provided free information through my site

Would I be able to create a membership section on the hostgator site using the DL Guard and this could be the download area for teh single download page or am I reading the DL Guard site stuff incorrectly? Is that possible?

Alternatively does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to secure the product download from illegal downloads and sharing the download URL?

Yes, DL Guard basically promises to secure your digital downloads from unauthorized eyes.

Hostgator allows you to upload and host your salespage and you can configure DL Guard to secure the downloads.

It sounds like you need the raw exe clicked to launch the computer requirements and install.

If that's the case, you should look into Amember. It can secure an entire folder and its contents using htaccess. That means anything uploaded into the protected folder is locked down...tight. If any of the files are illegally shared, it prompts for a member password.

Yes I used DLGuard for my site secretwowgold.com on Hostgator, basically you get an .exe file from DLGuard and you enter all the login & directory information into the .exe file and it uploads the latest version of DLGuard to your site. I used DLGuard with Clickbank and only had to amend a couple of pages to get everything set on Clickbank. So relatively easy to use.

You can create membership sites with DLGuard as well as individual downloads.

Basically DLGuard can be used for multiple products, and you can use it on two domains. So one of those could be a site where you store all your products and send people there from your multiple sales domains. Its a very good piece of kit, even Kelly Felix uses it on his Bring The Fresh site.

For an affiliate program I'd use Clickbank to make it easier with DLGuard, pay Clickbank $50 to activate your product on their network (just don't count on affiliates finding your product, I made this mistake - you still have to actively get affiliates to promote your product using their Clickbank IDs), but if you really want to go and do something standalone, a membership site with paypal addon and an affiliate program I'd recommend Rapid Action Profits RAP / Member Plus its $297 and it can be used on unlimited domains that you use.

Are your files quite large? The reason I ask, would it just be easier to put all of the files into a ZIP file, and just allow your customers to download the one file?

Or if you prefer, yes you can offer either all of the files as seperate and secure downloads on your download page, or you can offer them inside a members area.

Either way is fine, and DLGuard will do both!
