Well it was 3 links, but all with the same problem and I'm hoping some of the 'techies' can tell me what on Earth went wrong. So I set up a new product on a subdomain of the main domain The subdomain consists of the index file, the thank you page file, and some images. I upload the zipped 'product' to the MAIN Domain, not the sub. The path should be- www.maindomain.com/product.zip And if I type that link in manually, the download dialog box opens fine. BUT... then I go into cpanel to edit the thank you page to link to that url. I type out the customary "Click Here To Download" anchor text, drag to highlight it, and then click the little hyperlink icon, and insert the path... www.maindomain.com/product.zip and hit save. But, when I visit the thank you page and click on the link, the url now has the subdomain in the path, and I get taken to www.subdomain.maindomain.product.zip, which is a 404. Does anyone have any idea what caused this? |

Only thing I am aware of is if you are putting in a url with http:// it should work. This is an absolute link. If you add a relative link without the http:// then you see the problem your experiencing.

hmmm... I must confess, I'm functioning on about 2 and a half hours of sleep today, so I can't recall if I used the http:// or not when setting up the link. But I will be sure to be on the lookout for that now. Thank you, Ken. -Dani P.S. I finally gave up and just uploaded the product into the subdomain folder and the links finally worked, but it takes an hour just to FTP this particular product because of it's massive size. It was a frustrating day to say the least. |

You could always just edit the html (using the cpanel text editor) instead of using the WYSIWYG editor. If you can't move the boulder, go around it. |
