Photoshop question...

Ok... I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question or not... feel free to move it where it's needed.

I've been using Inkscape for the last few years but now feel the need to switch to photoshop... it only makes sense as everything you buy comes with PSD files. I can't seem to get Gimp to work out the same.

Anyway... I'm looking for some suggestions as to which version to buy? Why are there different versions? I want to be able to create my own banners, images, etc. from scratch.

I've found CS5 for $128 on some random site... is this valid?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think there is a plugin for opening psd files in Gimp, try googling for it before buying photoshop. If you get the latest photoshop it will cost a lot of money, if you really want it try and buy an older version, you might get it cheaper and it will probably do everything you need it to. The latest version is only really needed by graphic designers/web designers, if you just want to edit psd files then you can probably get by with an older version.
