Free/low cost voicemail service?

I've got to find a short-term, reliable voicemail service ASAP for a client in order to publish an alternative phone # on her website vs. her own phone #. We want to divert people at first to the voicemail. Ideally, the voicemail service would send a notification to a VA to triage the call prior to connecting directly with my client.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Google Voice would be the bestest and the freeest.

Yea the recording and text translation sent to your email is super cool. You can set it up to never ring through.

You get just one Google Voice number associated with a real number, so the opportunity might be burned after this one number (they have a fee for changing the Google Voice number)

I am not up to speed on the newer voice through gmail thing, like skype?

      We like using grasshopper.com

Real easy to set up and a lot of different options
available as their business requires them.

        Wow! Everybody's on it today!

I agree with everyone else. Google Voice is quick, free and easy.

If you need something more advanced or professional, Grasshopper.com is an excellent service. We started using them a while back, and I can't say a single negative thing about them.

And... if I remember correctly, Google voice can be setup to ring multiple phones at the same time.

Thanks for your feedback. My main worrry is - is it reliable? Will something 'free' be quality? This is my first big project with this client and I want to make a good choice. I've never used either service.

A phone number + a voicemail service is what we are seeking.

Kall8, a toll-free number is only $2 month, month, locals for $5. Without a doubt the best service out there, and I've searched. Google voice is nice because it's free, but falls short on the other services.

Unstoppable caller ID, doubles as a fax line, real-time control to block any number you want with a number of different messages, VIRTUAL PBX and chases you around. I've had numbers with them for in excess of 10 years now.

Thank you all for your feedback. I put "Virtual Office" into Google and found Receptionhq.com. For there 'Message Center' service (voicemail to email) they charge $25/month, unlimited minutes, no contract, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month etc., cancel any time, includes 1 local or toll-free # and can notify more than one person when each voicemail comes in. They have other services involving humans answering the phone, but for just a phone # and voicemail to email, this seems to be the best deal - other than Google Voice. The unlimited minutes seems to be the big difference.

Google Voice all the way. It's the best, free option out there. But phone numbers are scarce. Make sure you can dial the available numbers without pressing "1" first.
