    Absolutely speed and addons.

Everytime I go to a family member and they are using Internet Explorer my tow nails curl ! Really, IE?

I than install mozilla for them and it's so much faster.

Using SEO addons on mozilla works so much better and there are more out there that are compatible than with IE.

Mozilla Firefox is the way to go!

It used to be speed, but I think people choose it more for the add ons at this point. It's the most popular browser because, in the past, it was he most popular browser. If that makes sense. I don't think it's the best anymore. Chrome is better IMO.

I think a lot has to do with habit and comfort. Firefox was the first major competitor to IE. I've been using it ever since.

Also, I think about Ed Dale and the 30 Day Challenge. He was always recommending browsers. There was Flock one year, and then he's seemed to settle on Firefox. Has to do with the add-ons.

Yea, I have to agree with most others. For pure speed, use Chrome but for some addons that are IM-related, go with Firefox.

I'm an impatient bugger and need the speed so I always use Chrome.

    IE is a DOG!!!!

    • I used to use Firefox, because of the add-ons, but when I upgraded to 4.0, almost all of my add-ons did not work anymore. Therefor I switched to Chrome, because of the speed and because of the auto fill in the URL(I know you can get an add-on for that in Firefox, but why make it slower?).

I DO use Firefox as my first choice.

      BUT...

I will NOT use any version above 3.8.

Any version above 3.8 couldn't even use some of it's OWN UTILITIES...i.e. Download Helper and others!

Hopefully, Firefox will fix these bugs...until then...NOPE! :p

Mozilla is the most popular browser because it was the best alternative to IE when it came out. This gave it a huge advantage as it has had the most time for the development of plugins. With Chrome's release the Firefox advantage is starting to fade a bit while Chrome picks up market share.

Personally, Firefox is my default browser because I have plugins in Firefox that aren't available in Chrome. However, I use all 3 browsers (Firefox, Chrome, & IE) on my PC.

Firefox & Chrome are fairly close in speed. I feel that Chrome does have a slight advantage in my opinion. I don't really care which one is the fastest I use them all for whatever they are best at or the easiest to use for a particular task. I like some plugins better for each and I use them that way.

I even still use IE on the very rare occasion for things like Outlook web access because Microsoft doesn't provide the rich browsing experience on other browser platforms.

Using Firefox & Chrome together certainly makes life easier as I can have tons of tabs open and easily ALT + Tab back and forth between the browsers.

I do lots of Internet Marketing Tasks and Website Development and using both browsers at the same time actually saves me time and makes me more efficient in my work.

Below is a list of some of my favorite plugins in each browser.

    Firefox:

    *AdBlock Plus - Ad Blocker
AniWeather - Displays weather in browser toolbar
*Boomerang - Schedule messages to be sent or returned at a later date
ColorZilla - Advanced eyedropper & colorpicker
*Download Manager Tweak - Opens download manager silently in background tab & clears completed files
*Firebug - Website design element finder
*DownloadHelper - Download Videos, Audio, & Media from many sites
*Firefox Sync - Sync tabs, bookmarks, etc between all PCs
*Font Finder - Gets all CSS styles of selected fonts
*FoxClocks - Displays times around the world on toolbar (great for outsources like myself)
    Greasemonkey - User script management
*MeasureIt - Measure web item in pixels
*NetVideoHunter - Like DownloadHelper but works on more sites
*PageSpeed - Performance diagnostic tool, requires Firebug
QuickJava - Disable Java, Flash, Silverlight
    *ScreenGrab - Capture screenshots
*Siphon - Keep all Add-ons synced between PCs
*WiseStamp - Email signature enhancer for Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL
*WOT - Displays safety & security of all websites
*Yoono - Stay up to date on all social media networks
    *YSlow - Performance diagnostic tool

    * = Tools I can't live without

    Chrome:

    *AdBlock - Ad Blocker
*Chrome SEO - Best SEO Plugin I have found
*Firebug - Website design element finder
    Google Dictionary - Dictionary
Hidden FLV Links - Display hidden FLV links
*PageRank Status - Display Google PageRank of current page
    *Pendule - Web developer tools
SmartVideo For YouTube - Better YouTube experience
Speed Tracer - Get insight into the performance of your web applications
The Camelizer - Price history charts
TooManyTabs - Manage your tabs & improve your browsing
*Webpage Screenshot - Fast & Simple screenshots
*WOT - Displays safety & security of all websites

    * = Tools I can't live without

I was a FF user for 5+ years until about 6 months ago. I switched to Chrome 100% and don't think I could go back. Tried the latest Firefox and it just felt bloated, had terrible font rendering (common issue in the latest versions), and I'm not the biggest fan of its interface.

Still though. For privacy reasons I was hesitant to make the move to Chrome. Eventually I caved. Though I'm pretty sure Google is logging my keystrokes as I type this.

This has been an ongoing issue for years now...

When I first started programming on the web, it was in the Netscape days, and I loved Netscape and hated IE.

Then IE got better, Netscape faded and was bought out, and the first versions of Firefox were CRAP to write for. Really poor at reading certain CSS, bad at translating width and height dimensions (you create a 200-pixel table and it displays a 280-pixel table), and IE was a lot smoother executing javascript, etc.

Now Firefox is great and IE (again) sucks - just wait a couple years, it'll all be different...

    Well some main reasons are...
Browsing the Web feels faster on Firefox
Extensions! - Extensions has always been what made Firefox better than IE. The ability to customize your browser to your needs is really useful.
Better Security - Firefox displays a warning if it thinks the website is potentially dangerous.
Great Memory! - Very useful for online workers

Firefox used to be quite accurate, had loads of options and was programming friendly unlike IE and its anti aliased text. FF was sharp and crisp. Though not the fastest but still got the job done.

I've switched over to Chrome - ditched FF for it, Chrome is just much much faster.

If you can't find replacement add-ons in Chrome you could just use both browsers. I use Firefox & Chrome depending on which browser handles the specific task at hand the best.

Reasons why people choose Mozilla Firefox:

1.Security: Using Firefox will block many websites from trying to install spyware and other mal-ware from getting onto your computer, which is a common problem with other browsers.

2.Popup blocking: Firefox has a very good built in popup blocker that blocks all those annoying popups when you open up a web page.

3.Advanced Features: Firefox has many advanced features like tabbed browsing (click to learn about tabbed browsing) that has all of your open pages in tabs in one window instead of having every page on a different window.

4.Extensions: Firefox has many useful extensions and plugins (click to learn how to install plugins). They are add-ons to the browser that adds functionality. They can be anything from a new tool bar to a text-to-speech converter.

5.Excellent Interface: Firefox has a clean, simple interface that makes it easier to use and work on slower machines. The browser only come with the essentials that makes it less prone to crashing, easier to use, and function better on older or slower computers.

Browsing the web using Firefox is faster and has many add-ons that will make users customize the design of their page by making it more personalize. In addition to its speed and add-on, Mozilla Firefox is more user-friendly than the others.
Personally, I sometimes make some switching of what I will be using. There are times that I will be using Mozilla, and sometimes Google Chrome.

    Technically speaking,

Internet explorer lags in creating tabs/windows and is very very slow

Chrome divides each of it's new tab into a each separate category in task manager making it very hard to end any particular task...each tab consumes so much memory...normally if you want to end a non-responding program, you simple navigate to its process and simple click "end"...but in chrome each tab is a different process so it is very hard to navigate through all these multiple processes and ending the right one

Firefox is kinda slow in the startup...support is pretty cool

    BUT

Opera is the winner now! It's blazing fast and has features like grouping tabs and etc...use this...since it consumes very less memory and doesn't feed solely on system resources

Are you assuming that because FF is currently the most popular browser it is also the most popular browser for designers? I've never read anything to suggest that until your post.

Fact is, a designer should be using IE, FF, Opera, and Chrome (even with the allegations of it being spyware) in order to ensure their designs are cross-platform friendly.
