I don't seem to be comfortable with all the wordpress themes available. Is there a place where i can find great and outstanding free themes.

Nope, unless you become less vague and define precisely what is "outstanding" for you. If you have planned everything else about your future site - it will be easy to formulate the requirements for the theme... which should be anyway the last thing to worry about. |

| Very rarely do the words 'free' and 'outstanding' go hand in hand. With WP themes and theme skins, you get what you pay for. 'Outstanding' costs - maybe as little as $30, 'adequate' might be free, but even then I would only use free themes from the official Wordpress site (tested and approved).

My recent favorite has been atahualpa. It's a little intimidating at first. But give yourself a few hours with it and you'll love it. |

I know I've posted about this in a previous post, but if you are going for a simple theme that looks very polished (like I do for product review style blogs), I highly recommend this collection of free themes: Best Wordpress 2 Column Themes |

The only safe place for free themes is Wordpress - too many sites offering free themes add little nasties you don't want - see here for more info Why You Should Never Search For Free WordPress Themes in Google or Anywhere Else |

I really like the Flexibility theme. Flexibility Theme for WordPress I was also using Shaded Grey at one time too, and was pretty happy with that one. I'm not sure if that one is still around now or not. As others have mentioned, watch out for little hidden "nasties" in free themes. Make sure it's a safe and tested one. |

I usually use some good paid versions, but I have been experimenting with Weaver for niche sites and it seems to be working really well. You can download that through Wordpress.com.
