Hi there.
I am new to flipping websites. When i first visited flippa dot com, i was very enthused at the profits and monthly revenues being claimed by sellers. There i was thinking i'd hit a goldmine. A week later, i see now that there's alot of rubbish and scammers in that community. It's incredible seeing sites for sale that are only 1 month old, getting 5000 plus visits pm and $200 - $500 revenue pm - selling for $100 -$500. Its been a fast learning curve and i'm glad i didn't bid on anything -yet. I researched adsense, backlink services, google seo metrics and other stuff. Sellers offer dubious stats, adsense claims and more. I am no seo / marketing expert, but very disappointed with the whole thing.
So my question to fellow Warriors / flippers is this:
Are there ever any genuine sites selling on flippa for as little as $500 that make $100 -$500 pm? If you've bought any, please let me know. I would like to know that there is some gold to be found on that site.
Cheers.

There is a real pot of gold on that site.Flippa is by far one of the best locations to buy and sell websites online.
Unfortunately, some guys saw this, and hijacked it,but even with that, real thousands and more $ are transferred daily on Flippa.com.
My advice:As you have been doing, continue to Perform your due diligence.
    Hope this helps.

    Hey,

Congrats for discovering that the site is not a bed of roses - it simply is not as simple as that and nothing in IM is (in my experience).

    When you ask the question:

"Are there ever any genuine sites selling on flippa for as little as $500 that make $100 -$500 pm? If you've bought any, please let me know. I would like to know that there is some gold to be found on that site."

You will be hard pushed to find a site that you can buy for $500 that is making $500 a month - ask yourself if the site is making $500 a month WHY would they sell it for $500 to you?

However that said, you can find some real bargains and the key is buying a site and then building it up yourself to make 10 times the profit and THEN reselling!

    Hope this helps?

I'm afraid not buddy. Websites with proven income will sell for a lot more than $500.

If a website has these crazy revenue/traffic cliams and the bidding is low, it's because the more experienced flippers have already deemed it to be a scam or a rip off.

It's pretty easy to automatically skim over the rubbish and find the real winners, if you know what to look for.

You're doing the right thing by researching some background info before you place a bid, this is just part of website flipping.

You sound like you know what you are doing, so just keep it up and you will eventually find a winner (it just takes longer with all this crap on Flippa now)

Totally not true. I have acquired 4 sites to date that do just what he wants. Were they on the homepage, or featured or highlighted? Nope. From what I remember I researched and dug them up and really worked hard to find them and acquired them and they are huge performers for me. They were mostly from college students who wanted quick cash. And even if they are making 100$ x month and you pay 5x earnings and know what your doing the deals are there to be found.

If you think you can hop on flippa and glance the homepage and spend 5 minutes and find them your dreaming, it takes hard work but they are definitely there.

The last 100$ x month site i bought on flippa was from a college student who I paid 300$ for the site and he said he wanted a PS3 and needed quick cash and I took over the site and it gets serious traffic and is a huge CB earner. So before giving up too quick spend some time and due your research and there are deals to be found.

Flippa is legit. Always do your due diligence before purchasing a site (age of domain, backlinks, traffic). See if the screenshots add up to their claims. As highrank said, sites with legit claims will sell for a few thousand.

Flippa is a goldmine but you have to remember if a site is making $500 per month, the person selling the site would probly sell around $6k depending on how much money its made over a certain period of months.

Of course Flippa is legit. Does that mean that there are no scammers selling sites? Of course not. Just like you can get burned here on a WSO, you can get burned anywhere that you buy products.

In the price that you are asking about with that kind of revenue, I would say that if you did find a legitimate listing for $500 that have real revenue of $100-$500/mnth, it would be your lucky day indeed. That is simply too cheap to sell a site with legitimate income in that range.

There are legitimate listings with revenue, but you have to be very careful buying and verifying income claims. It's common and easy to fake income screenshots.

Here's more tips on what to look for to not get scammed on Flippa.

Well, there are scumbags everywhere. It's just a matter of how cautious YOU are in recognizing them.

Other than that, companies like Flippa are a little strict in dealing with scammers.

Not necessarily true. They suspend them, and then sometimes unsuspend them or they just create a new account and start scamming all over again.

On Flippa, you have to be on the ball at all times. ("on the ball" is a phrase meaning "ready" or "alert" for those outside of countries where it's used).

Review earnings and ensure the seller is telling the truth. I saw earnings once which looked 100% legitimate. It was only because he didn't black it out properly that I saw it was fake.

    Need to be careful.

Yup, Flippa is pretty legit. Unfortunately, there are A LOT of sites on sales so it's a little bit difficult to get visibility without spending a bunch of money. But sometimes you hit that pot of gold and it makes it all worth it!

Andyhenry - You're only partially right. You are assuming everyone is in their right mind!

I have a seemingly sane neighbor that has provided me 2 nearly new bicycles that just need air in the tires, 3 fishing poles that still have shrink wrap on the handles that just had tangled line and a pair of older Bose 901 speakers in mint condition - from his garbage can. Who knows what else I've missed?

(Go ahead and tell me you wouldn't pick his trash also! I dare you!)

Value - approximately $600 on Ebay.

      Cost - $0

In his right mind? Questionable! Reality? He just doesn't care.

Some people don't have the knowledge, time or persistence to get the true value out of their sites and therefore there ARE some ripe pickings in any marketplace. Yes, the pros usually snatch the steals before you can blink, but they do exist. $500 a month sites for $500 is probably too much to ask, but a $100 a month site for $500 might be found every now and then.

Flippa is legit but just like anywhere else there are scammers hanging out there. And if you see a site claiming to make $500 (or anywhere near that) and they are also selling it for $500 then you should be very suspicious! There is no reason for someone to sell a site like that because they could just keep it and make a lot more money just as quickly.

You might find a legit site making $100 per month and selling for $500 but even then I would be cautious and do your homework on it. Most people would sell a site like that for somewhere around $800-1200 depending on several factors other than just what it is earning.

Any site making $X per month and selling for that same $X per month is either not legitimate, or you're looking at gross and not net profit. Maybe the site earns $500 per month, but there are product/outsourcing costs that total $440/month, making the profit $60 per month...that would be more legitimate.

Same rules on Flippa hold true...if it looks like it's too good to be true...it probably is. You also have to read the auction fairly carefully and do your due diligence OUTSIDE of what they're telling you. There's quite a difference between "potentially $500/month" and verified "$500/month" of course.

Flippa is legit, but when it comes to the people that search there
looking to buy - Ugh, well... It depends. It's just like any other service,
but there are always people out there looking to cheat you out of
money. So, If the website is of high value, you should be using Escrow
or some service such as that. YOU determine what is high.

Flipping Paradise from here. I think it's from here or JVZoo. Either way, it's a course on flipping, but, with that course you learn a lot that is helpful about flipping and Flippa.

It's legit. There are people making fortunes buying and selling. I believe the formula I learned was for the most part, a site should sell for 10-16 times what it claims to make monthly, as a rule. I have thoroughly used the course to learn all I need to know what to look for; for instance, how the sales pages are designed and what to look for that may be "scammy" and BS.

But like everyone is saying, you may or may not find a gem. Look at people's profiles and what others are saying about them. Look at their sales and how much they have made. I think they have a rating system.

Anyway,, sheesh,, I just wanted to say check out Flipping Paradise

Check out "no traffic, no revenue" sites. You can sell them between 100 - 300 USD easy. Wordpress with a premium template and a some content might give you what. I see some do this on Flippa.com. Run a advanced search to see for your self.

Not only do I think (some or many) flippa users are not legit (shill bids, dishonest advertising), I think the mechanisms/infrastructure of flippa itself is very dubious - for example, in the way use information
in a "game theory/prisoner's" dilemma type way. The system demonstrates to me time and time again during a live auction that it is using its see-all ability of both sides of the (proposed, would-be) buyer/seller equation, to manipulate the parties, manipulate the event.
I'm not talking just usual platform selling manipulation (for they are selling sales, and are therefore, sellers and marketers). I think it could be illegal.
I am not saying it is illegal - I am saying that I think it could be. But something needs to be looked at there, I feel.
So forum user londoncoffee raises something possibly significant here.

Flippa is legit. Some of the sellers might not be, though. Maybe even some buyers - careful out there!

There are honest sellers on Flippa who don't claim revenue or lie about traffic stats.

But just like any place online, there are the scammers - so before you buy do your due diligence - Also, if you have sufficient evidence that a seller on Flippa is scamming people, report it to the folks on Flippa - they will deal with it accordingly.

I hope Flippa is legit otherwise I'd be worried about who employer really is!

While we do a lot to police content on Flippa, we unfortunately can't pre-check every auction that goes live on the marketplace (people who report shady auctions to our support team are always appreciated)

Due diligence is an important part of the Flippa transaction, as it should be whenever you're buying or investing in something.
