GoDaddy or HostGator?

There is another thread on here somewhere on Godaddy and it's not in their favor. Most go with Hostgator as their host that were in that thread including myself. I've read several not so good things about Godaddy so I won't use them. I have my domains at 1 and 1. The best thing to do I believe is to have separate companies one for hosting and one for domains.

I host my websites at 000webhost.com...

Free hosting for life (although you can upgrade for more space) and I have NEVER seen my sites down while hosting with them.

I use 2 companies that have my domains registered...

Register.com

Godaddy.com

Haven't used hostgator but I'm sure it's excellent.

Never ever use Godaddy for hosting. They're awful. Hostgator is very quality. We use both Hostgator and Pair.

Hey Bill, I'm sorry, we only use Pair and Hostgator. Why can't you find a script that isn't Windows-based? I'm sure you could find something better that isn't Windows based, right?

I had one account with GoDaddy for hosting it was a nightmare. I couldn't even see my site because of the way their java script (or something techie works). I love Hostgator for hosting to death - their support is excellent

I agree entirely, I have a few domain names at Go Daddy but i get my hosting from Hostgator. I can tell you that their support is second to none and they have helped me out on more than a few occasions. I tried out Go Daddy with the free space they give you when you purchase a domain name and it was diabolical, never again

As one of the other posters above said, there are a few GoDaddy threads that started up in the past couple of days. Most of them are negative on GoDaddy for hosting.

I can't find the link in my book mark file mess, (I'll keep looking) but a while ago I clipped a rant by one of the now big name IM guys as a case study/rant on GoDaddy closing down his site and how much revenue he lost because of it for a spam complaint or something. A chilling read.

In addition, I found that GoDaddy can't really set up a WP blog or at least maximize or utilize it properly because some CPanel plugins and features are missing like Fantastico. That alone should have you thinking about some other hosting company if you want to do extensive blogging on that platform.

The bad part is that I had placed the order for the Godaddy Hosting and then thought to ask about it afterwards...

I have since canceled the order! I'll just keep the domain and transfer it to my hostgator account!

I have 2 hosting accounts because I don't ever want to put all of my eggs in one basket.

One time last year I deposited $40K in my business account in one day and the bank shut down my account for a fraud investigation. $20K came from a wire transfer from a real estate transaction and the other $20K from a credit card advance and it was easily proven to be legit money, but the bank did not care.

I swore I would never have one of anything from then on.

Back to hosting - One of my hosting accounts if with Godaddy and I really like it and have had no problems. They have good customer support 24 hours a day. Occasionally I will find a support person who doesn't know what they are talking about, but I will just hang up and call back to get someone else.

Out of the two, I would go for Hostgator for hosting. GoDaddy is fine for registering domains if you don't mind being hit with a zillion offers every time you want to perform a simple action.

I can vouch for Hostgator as well. Their support is top notch. I haven't had too many problems, but I once had a technical issue that I needed fixed immediately (well, I guess you want them all fixed asap, right? lol). I emailed a trouble ticket, and it was a total of 11 minutes later that I received an email telling me it had been taken care of.

I have two other hosting accounts at different companies, but I've never used Godaddy for anything except domain name registration. However, I have heard a lot of horror stories regarding GoDaddy's hosting service. Based on my experience with HG and bad news I've heard about GD, I'd say stick with HG for hosting.

Never host with Godaddy if you're any serious about your internet marketing business at all simply due the fact that their hostings is built on their own proprietary platform, and is totally geared towards those who just want to have a simple "personal page" on the web. Don't waste your time and money with their hosting.

Hostgator is a good one. I also use Bluehost.com, a fantastic host with everything for internet marketers.

Wow a lot of host gators here! Sorry to hear so many have had a dissapointment with go daddy .I have heard both good and bad about them and know people personally that have had nothing but good service with them.I haven't used hostgator yet but i can definetley reccomend host papa .I've not seen any complaints about them only good things. you could always try them. I am with Hostgator also, and never had an issue with them . There support is top notch and my site has never been down. I did try godaddy as thats where i register my domains. I didnt like the control panel and the way they handled your email service.

I'm using HostGator and it's perfect! They offer an unbeatable customer service and thats worth gold. I've been calling them a 3 oclock in the morning because I had some problem and they fixed it in 5 minutes.

I dont use hostgator but i imagine any other hosting company is better then Godaddy. I only use them for my domain names because i buy alot of domain names through ebay and they push hte domain name for free(i Know most companies do) Well alot of the ebay sellers use godaddy to buy domaain names and then flip them quick.

This is like a flashback Bruce - it's all coming back to me...

I switched by GoDaddy hosting to HostGator 2 days before the Black Friday pricing and they wouldn't switch it over for me which would've saved me 75%. Oh well sucks for me

Otherwise, the problem with Daddy for hosting is by and large the control panel which was not as user friendly.

And I am actually in the midst of moving over all domain names from Daddy to Namecheap because of Daddy's "No Spam" policy of intolerance and fining domain owners who have received a spam complaint

Hostgator is exceptional for hosting even though they closed down one of my main sites without warning...that's going to happen with any shared hosting under the right circumstances. Still Hostgator is awesome value.

I find GoDaddy useful to buy my domains but, oh my God, the way they upsell has to be seen to be believed. It's almost embarassing but I put up with it. I use both HostGator and GoDaddy so I get different ip classes ( I have lots of sites )

In my opinion godaddy doesn't provide cpanel which is very critical for too many things to mention here whereas hostgator is quite user friendly(with cpanel provided)...
Godaddy recently launched smart space though !!

I have used both HostMonster and host gator they are both pretty similar post once I had a few more extra features in the Cpanel but I find HostGator to be more reliable and faster.

I have used both. If I remember correctly one of the big differences is that with Hostgator your standard control panel is whm/cpanel and with godaddy the standard offer was or is Plesk. And I personally am more fond of the first one.

I use GoDaddy but if I had known what I found out after I signed up there I would not have done it. Go with HostGator.

Also, I would not buy my domains from them. They can shut down your sites just because of that. It is odd, but I heard Mike Filasame (how ever you spell his name) talk about it.

My suggestion is HASTYHOST - cheap web hosting | shared, reseller, and vps. Fast servers, fast and courteous support (on weekends too), just a pleasure to deal with. And their reseller program starts at $15.95 too!

I actually have the majority of my sites on godaddy virtual server and really have never had a problem. Several years, 80-90 sites, I don't ever recall downtime, although Im sure there has been some along the way.

I have my other sites on hostgator and like very much them as well.

If you are doing anything with wordpress, use hostgator - the c panel and fantastico as great - godaddy seems behind here.

Both have been excellent with customer service.

Godaddy is definately better at registering domains - cheaper and easier. If you want to make your domain private with HG, they have kind of a stupid process you have to follow (I think they use godaddys service anyway).

During university, the debating club I was involved with tried to host our site through GoDaddy. It was a nightmare! Thank goodness we had a Computer Science student as a member to sort it out. We eventually moved the site to the university server.

GoDaddy has been working good for me without any problems.
Of course, I just use it for the domain conversion.
Not yet on hosting.
From the sound of most of the posts it seems that Hostgattor and other sites are better?

Both suck if you ask me, Hostgator I had huge billing issues with and a bad server when I bought it brand new. I told them about 20 times the hard drive was going bad before they finally said ok its bad we are going to replace it.

Godaddy well they just suck had a windows server with them and they limit your outgoing emails to 5,000 at first. Only issue my list was 87,000 eekkk So I stayed with it and they said if no spam complants came in then I could have the 5,000 raised. did it for a month guess what they raised it to 10,000 and told me to repeat the process. Needless to say the list is a flop now and I no longer work with godaddy. There are other smaller companies that will give you faster speeds and better tech work out there. Search for those. Zoothost is an example

  GoDaddy-I had 3 domains and hey wouldn't let me unsubscribe.You have manual and automatic option to prolong subscription.When ever I would click manual and come back in a day automatic would be clicked,like I didn't do anything.Support is really terrible and slow.Use cheap domains and hostgator.

  I use bluehost and a private hosting company - I like bluehost a lot, the private company is a little slow to respond to my needs which I can do myself on bluehost without waiting.
  
  Also, and this may be helpful: I've been told that if you have multiple websites on one niche, you will be better off (as viewed in the eyes of Google) putting those various sites on different hosting services.

  I agree with Justawizard you are better off using different hosting services to gather link juice for mutliple websites on the same niche thats why I posted 3 hosts that I am happy with.

  You will find a company called Fractix, This guy does 3 years unlimited web hosting for £1.99 and to be honest I have several accounts with him and they always seem to be up in fact I've never had a problem with downtime.
  
  Now I'm not saying you should use this for your main money making site but for link juice it is perfect and the price is definatly right.
  
  For USA Warriors I'm not sure if he accepts USA customers thats why I said for UK but you could always try.

  I'll confirm what others have said: Hostgator is great for hosting, and GoDaddy is my choice for domains. In fact, I have so many domains that it made sense for me to become a GoDaddy reseller and buy the names from myself (I gave myself a good deal at www.hotnamesUSA.com). I recommend to anyone who has more than a few domains that they look into this.
  
  Also, Hostgator has a great affiliate program, but you can't buy hosting from yourself, whereas you can if you are a GoDaddy reseller. Even so, I much prefer the standardized CPanel interface that you get from Hostgator.
  
  One other option: 000webhost.com which is totally free for a decent Cpanel account with no ads. I am using it now to experiment with ideas. Not sure if I am ready to trust something I don't pay for, but it's good for playing around with ideas.

  It should be definitely HostGator. Even if it takes some little more bucks, you should go with it. Although you can save up to 50% cost if you know the method. I can't post that method here because of the forum rule.

Use both. Their Website Tonight's, Quick Carts, Domain deals and Quick Blogs are excellent, for example. And have your reseller hosting with HostGator.

Other combos work fine, too. Both places have good customer service, so go with a combo.

Godaddy is only good for buying domains and not for hosting. If you are really serious about your online business I suggest hostgator or bluehost.

I don't know about GoDaddy because haven't use hosting with them yet.

But Hostgator beat all of them without a doubt. I already have 9 host site with them.
My advice is, go for Hostgator without think any other hosting

I use Hostgator for my hosting services. They have magnificent support plus I office just a few blocks away from their datacenter.
I use ENOM for all my domains. I've never experienced any issues with them either. Knock on wood.

Godaddy is great for domains but their hosting is horrible. I've hosted sites on their shared account and also run servers with them. There support is next to none. What I love about hostgator is you can chat with their support team 24 X 7 and they are always very helpful. They also have great support docs and video tutorials. Also a better deal than Godaddy.

I use namecheap over godaddy for domains now, however I have several domains with godaddy and have never had any problems, its just that I find godaddys checkout too confusing and time consuming with all the upsells.

Hosting
Hostgator, Bluehost or Hostpappa, I have neve had problems with any of these.

GoDaddy and HostGator are equal on quality of support. It is the fact that GoDaddy doesn't have cPanel that makes HostGator the better choice. HostGator's dedicated servers are cheaper and give you more bandwidth than GoDaddy.

I use GoDaddy, BlueHost, HostMonster, and HostGator.

Avoid Startlogic at all costs. They are horrible.

hostgator, sure, definitely not godaddy, bad for seo... but godaddy for domain names? nah, use 1and1.com it's cheaper. plus u get free privacy registry too, or sparkhosting.com another alternative.

Be careful with Go Daddy because I have known some colleagues of mine who had used their service before and they were non too happy so a word of advice is to do a Google search and type in: '"godaddy.com customer review."

You can read from past customers perspectives on their experiences with the service. I hope this helps.

Hi there:

Hostgator seems to have pleased more people. Go Daddy has gotten complaints over the years with the customer service/tech support issues.

One thing that they do that is a nice touch and the company I use that charges a zillion times more could learn from is any new customer is given a welcome call. If nothing else it shows appreciation for the initial investment.

There are many review sites that look at the nuts and bolts of the various hosts and many of the reviews are not kind to Go Daddy.

Hostgator for hosting and Namecheap for domains is what I've used so far.

I had two domains (still have one) with GoDaddy and I regret it. They make it a real hassle transferring a domain for me.

Hostgator support is very good in my experience but the live support usually sucks. They are nice and try to be helpful but they don't seem to know what they are doing. But whenever I submit a ticket instead they are really fast, get any problem I've had dealt with and are pretty sharp people.

GoDaddy works well for me to simply have all my domains in one place.

I have a HostGator account but have not enjoyed using it enough to make full use of it. For instance, I have not been able to get to my cpanel lately. When I try to log in to Hostgator I only get to my account billing information. Any insight appreciated at to how I can simply access my host gator domains that I have hosted there. How do I log into my cpanel there?

Hi, how long have you been with HostGator? A little while back they blocked access to user accounts for security reasons because many users had insecure passwords. If you are affected, you should have received an email asking you to verify your identity so that a new password can be issued. Why not visit their main site - http://www.hostgator.com/ -and use live chat or phone them? (Phone number is at the very top of the home page.)

Personally, I have used HostGator for over 2 years and highly recommend them.

I use GoDaddy for domain name registration but, as others have said, they are a bit pushy during the checkout process (numerous upsells).

I, too, agree that you should keep your hosting and domain name registration services separate.

Hostgator - by a long shot!

Godaddy's interface for hosting is just brutal. As long as you can handle working with cpanel (which I find much more intuitive than what is at godaddy) then you should be ok.

The one positive about godaddy is that I have had pretty good luck with their phone support and they always are available. But again, I find their user interface just horrible -- not to mention all the upsells. Now they try to upsell you to their hosting when you go in to change nameservers on one of your domains! Very smart actually, but annoying to me.

Sure, they both offer hosting and domain registration but each one only specialises in one. Godaddy for registrations and Hostgator for hosting.

I would not host a website at Godaddy.
I would not register a domain at Hostgator.

  Honestly... I have been dealing with HostGator the last week or so on a Dedicated server. Their support is very good. If you talk to someone in chat, they are basically a Tier 1 rep. They can handle most anything you throw at them. However, if you get into DNS type of issues or anything like that, you will most likely have to deal with that via email i.e. their Tier 2/System Admin type or reps.
  
  For Domain Registration either NameCheap or GoDaddy are fine. Each have their advantages and disadvantages.
  
  I also use HostMonster and BlueHost. Both are very good hosting companies. However, neither provide Dedicated servers. If HostMonster had dedicated servers I would probably primarily use them... but they don't. Their support is as good if not better than HostGators.
  
  GoDaddy does not have cPanel on shared accounts... and charges extra for email, forwarding, etc. Not a good option for Hosting at all. But I have to say that their Domain management interface is hands down the best there is.

i'm not using both. but i always buy domain from godaddy because it has good discount (search for godaddy coupon). i use hostmonster (same owner with bluehost). the customer service is top notch. i like thier online customer service, you can ask them almost anything in real time thrugh their chat system.

I've used both and by far I prefer hostgator. They are easier to work with and I think understand internet marketers better.

A few years back godaddy shut down my server without warning because of my membership script sending out too many emails (all of which were double opt in!). So if you plan on doing any emailing via a godaddy server be careful!

I only have 2 domains, e-commerce shops, that I hosted on another
host (dot5) for 4 years. I switched to Hostgator and the difference

Godaddy hosting sucks - all shared hosting accounts with godaddy get 64MB ram allocation - this can make the pages load really slow.

As for hostgator - I cant comment as I have not tested them.

my suggestion ixwebhosting -
1) dedicated ip (8 for bus plan - this is huge for SEO)
2) seach for 'ixwebhosting bonus' and checkout my site - jazzymarketing

Hostgator is certainly the better choice for hosting, Godaddy just for domains, although I wouldn't recommend them since they had security problems (=lost, stolen domains) in the past. Go with Moniker or Directnic instead.

I would recommend HostGator, based on the almost universal acclaim for them here, I have never heard anything bad about them.

I use (and would recommend) HostMonster for the bulk of my hosting (25+ sites) and will leave everything that's there until I find a reason to move them.

I have a few sites at Spry and they are just OK.

I highly recommend Pair.com, they are more expensive, but page load time there is probably 4x as fast as the lower priced hosts.

I do not use Godaddy except as a registrar for domains registered there when I bought them. Not only is the endless cross selling a major PITA, their site takes forever to do anything. And for someone in IM, I would not recommend counting on godaddy for anything. Just Google "filsaime godaddy spam" to find out why.

I use name.com, their pricing is good with free private registration.
Also: netfirms.com is a couple of $$ cheaper for the first year (don't forget to use a coupon code there for additional discount).

I have used godaddy in the past, (for years ago) to register domains. I use host gator to host my sites.
It is in your best interest to keep your registrar and your hosting company separate. It is, after all YOUR business, not theirs. Host gator has been an incredible company for me to do business with. I have used their online live support and found them to go above and beyond to take care of my needs.

Hostgator is, by far, the better hosting company. I've had 0 downtime, their cpanel is great, and customer support is top notch. I've used Godaddy, but like many others have pointed out, it's not so great.

I use Moniker for registering, as they're great for pushing and selling domains.

Hostgator has no setup fees, they are known to have the best customer support for a shared host while Godaddy is one of the biggest web host. They use custom control panel which may lack in some features. its cheap and reliable, even though support is not known for personalized help.

Hi again, it obviously goes without saying that also have free hosting at wealthy affiliate university, although it is slightly limited in that you are only allowed to host 3 domains at any one time, but it is free with wealthy affiliate membership.

I've hosted sites on probably a dozen different hosts since the 90s and I would say my top 2 picks are Hostgator (Baby Croc account) and Thirdshpere.

I'm currently with Hostgator because of their Addon Domain feature which allows me to host as many sites as I want with no additional cost and their control panel is top notch.

I was previously with Thirdsphere which was also a good host but a bit more expensive and they charged $10 for each add on domain. What I really liked about them was their Automation Station which has built in autoresponders, affiliate program, stats tracking, shopping cart, etc.

It really all depends on the features you're looking for and how many domains you plan on hosting.

Why complicate things, I would think it is better to transfer your domains over to HG and manage everything under one company.

I find Godaddy plain awful at hosting, even with getting a domain. One spam complaint on your site with Godaddy means that Godaddy takes the site from you and it's no longer yours. I recommend Hostgator for hosting and Namecheap for a domain, because it also comes with free whois protection

I would recommend Bluehost.com I think GoDaddy's hosting options are too limited. I've heard good things about HostGator. But, I think GoDaddy is great for registering domains.
