do not use ipowerweb....

I have been using ipowerweb hosting for many years now, it was when I started my first site that I started buying service from them. However, their service quality just gets lower and lower, to a point that recently I decided to close my account and move to another hosting company....

anyone with similar experience?

I have had to do chargebacks on my credit card because their support system sucks.
I have called them and sat on hold for 45 minutes.
I have used their email support system with no luck. They never answer my problem right. They are never at fault.
I will never do business with them again.

Indeed, these experiences are rather typical from what I have seen in web hosting forums etc.

It appears that they were once a decent company but have deteriorated the last few years.

There is a whole cluster of hosts with similar names (powWeb, iPower, etc.) and the same story seems to apply there - same owner I guess.

Stay away from this company, they are bad news.

When I first started in this business, I didn't know any better, and had my site hosted with them. My site would go down at LEAST once a month, for an uncertain amount of time and getting them on the phone to explain why was near impossible. Most of the time I just couldn't get them at all. I finally got fed up, did my research and switched my sites to HostGator.

I haven't looked back since, and haven't had a problem at all with HostGator. First time I had a question, I was shocked that I could get them on the phone in a matter of minutes, and they actually knew what the heck they were talking about. I haven't had any complaints at all with this company, and highly recommend them.

    @ Lanadili:
Good to hear you found a better host. I have also had good experiences with HostGator, and most people share that opinion.

Sure, there are other good companies also but HG is one of the largest and it is easy to find opinions on them.

I made the mistake of buying a domain from them a couple of years ago.

I also will never do business with them again.

i was with powweb. i was happy for a year but when i tried to add domains, i can't do it because of their setup. according to them i have to configure .htaccess manually to do it. being a noob webmaster back then, i wasn't able to do it. then they tried to sell me a $30 htaccess tool to make my life easier, according to them. but what the heck. they make their setup difficult to add a domain and then they are selling me some tool to make it easy.

i moved to hostmonster but i have to pay them to transfer my original domain to the hostmonster. and now i am very much happy with them.

Yes, I had a similar experience with this company, too. At first, they responded to my emails. But as the problem got worse and worse, they stopped responding!

i'm currently on ipowerweb, but after reading this, will most probably switch!

So hostgator is considered one of the best?

I've been using ipowerweb since 2006, and never had a problem (knock on wood). I have my main site plus 2 additional domains with them. I've had 3 problems in 3 years, mainly my stats page wouldn't show) but they fixed them all within 24 hours. And the reps I spoke with all talked English! (BIG plus there from me!)

The hosting company I DID have massive problems with, however, is 1and1. I used this when I was hired to build a website for a company, and they insisted to use that because it was so cheap.... I eventually quit - it just wasn't worth the hassle of dealing (or trying to deal) with them.

I also use hostgator, though, and they ARE good!

I have been using ipower since 2007 and found their service to be great. I have transfered domains to them set up blogs and have 5 domains. When I have had a problem (-usually my mistake), I have contacted them via chat and they respond within a few hours and after an exchange of a few messages they fix the problem instead of sending me instructions.

i have bought domains from them for years because they use to keep the personal information private for free, now they charge for that service, but i still buy my domains from them.

the thing i do not like is they do not use a cpanel for their hosting packages. i tried to figure out there system but gave up and found a host the uses the familiar cpanel.
