Malwarebytes has been a life saver in the past for me, I've also used spybot search and destroy.

As for the backup, I use livedrive online backup. It backs up your files as you save them.

Malwarebytes is awesome. I have it on every computer in our offices. I even keep it on a thumb drive in case I need a clean copy and the virus has corrupted it. Keep all the RKills and stuff on there too.

It saved my butt on more than one occasion as well. I had a similar problem about two years ago and that is how I cured it.

Personally I keep two backup external drives stored away from the house. Worst thing is to have your PC stolen and external hard drive corrupted.

  I had some malware on my computer apparently, and yesterday my site went down, but I ran malwarebytes and it found nothing. I ran Ad-aware today and it has found a few things, so not sure why malwarebytes didn't find them.

I am facing exactly the same issue with my personal computer, saying that my computer is infected and keep popping out a Buy screen. Downloading malwarebytes now. But wondering can I use it from the CD to scan the computer? What if the virus refused to allow the installation of malwarebytes? Thank goodness I come to this thread, was about to reformat.

Make sure that you start your computer up in safe mode (press F8 right after you turn on your computer - during the start up). You should be able to install the program from the CD.

I'm pretty sure i'm keeping malwarebytes on my computer from now on.

I had to use Malwarebytes twice (got the same virus, I guess). AVG, AVAST did not work for me. I found some Internet advice to use 'Malwarebytes' to save my PC from this thingy. It worked.
I am curious thought if people who created "Malwarebytes" possibly created virus itself. I never heard about this software before I came across this problem.
Nothing against "Malwarebytes" even if they are who inventing this virus, but if it is some kind of marketing plot - it definitely worked. I know about "Malwarebytes" now and recommend it to everybody who comes across this virus.
I have a suspicion that some viruses are actually created by Antivirus companies themselves.

While there may be some companies engaging in crap like that - as in all those "Scan Your PC Free!" apps that report issues but require a purchase for it to "clean" them - this is not one of them.

MWB has been around a long time, is very well known & respected in the security industry, and enjoys a solid & well-earned reputation.

Just keep in mind that backups can be infected too. So when you restore your backups you may have the same problem.

For the past 2-years I have been using:
- Malwarebytes (PAID version)
- SuperAntiSpyware (PAID version)
- Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) (Freeware)

Some comments about the above:
- Above combo has not generated conflicts.
- MSE auto upate is slow - often requires manual update.
- SuperAntiSpware has been by far the most active in finding malware.

I had not heard of not heard of Rkill. Here's a Google search that provides provides a plethora of details:

I have also tested ThreatFire by PC Tools (Symantec) which did nothing but cause conflicts. Be careful with this application: like most Symantec apps, it is highly resistant to uninstallation.

Advanced Win Service Manager - I am going to be testing this app in the near future. Specialized software for smarter analysis of Windows Services - will scan the services running, whenever you want it to, just run the program and hit the refresh button. It will automatically attempt to discern if a given service is harmless or is a potential threat. If a possible threat is detected, it will alert you and, using a very easy to learn color coding system it will show what threat level it has found. It can discover rootkits and it's got a completely portable version included with the download so you can run it from a USB drive if needed.

Some of the classic features include Detection of Malicious/Rootkit Services, Automatic Threat Analysis, Service Filter mechanism, Integrated Online Virus/Malware Scan, Color based Threat Representation, HTML/XML based Service Report etc.

  I'm with Terrance. I swear by Avast and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes has saved my a$$ many times. It very good at catching crap and stoppingitin it'stracks before it can make its way onto your machine.
