Hostgator or GoDaddy recomendation.

Good afternoon warriors!

So I'm (finally) about ready to push my first affiliate site live! I've got my first 5 posts ready, 6 initial products, subpages dealing with my niche, and a free product to give away in order to build my list.

My question is which of the hosts should I go with. Will either of them support emailing my list? It will take some time for my list to grow so something like Awber won't be needed for while. Might as well save the money and use it in other areas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Go with HostGator. If you outgrow them in the future (which would be great), then you can decide to move elsewhere based on your resource needs at that time. For starters, HostGator is a safe bet.

HostGator all the way. Never tried GoDaddy but I've heard some bad things. HostGator on the other hand I've never had an issue with ever.

I would like to mention that as a software developer,
I have had more problems with hostgator than any other company in the world.

They have pour service and support, and their servers are inconsistant.
I find all sorts of strange anomalies on hostgator's servers.

When ever a customer reports they are having install issues with PHP software,
and askes me for help. 85% of the time it's a hostgator account.

If you want better hosting for internet marketers,
    with software installed for you....
and a WAY more powerful and easier to use control panel....

please email me or PM me for a link to check out our Vendor-Lock Hosting Plans.

Have a great day toward your online success !

    Yours truly,

If it's between the two and nobody else then Hostgator would be the one I'd choose personally, although I haven't used their service, I've only asked pre-sales questions but they were very helpful.

I say Hostgator out of the two only because my Girlfriend uses Godaddy and has received poor support and everything takes longer to do, e.g. setting up scripts, databases or WordPress for example.

Also her site runs stupidly slow and I've seen a lot of other people mention how WordPress sites run really slow on Godaddy. - You might not run WordPress but if it's slow for one CMS I'd imagine it would be pretty slow for others too.

If you have another choice, I'd suggest looking at Site5, I've got 2 accounts with them, and my friend uses them too.

Most support queries or pre-sales questions I've asked were answered within 25 minutes and since switching from Justhost, my sites loads a lot quicker too on both of my accounts, so leads me to believe they're not over selling their servers like Justhost were.

Personally, I like DreamHost the best. After that I would go with Bluehost or hostgator, but for a single domain hosting, GoDaddy may work just fine. I've seen three year plans with GoDaddy that work out to $ 33.00 a year for a single domain, a pretty good price.

You really don't mention what you are wanting to do, other than e-mail. For example, if you want to do Ruby on Rails, or Python 3.0 that would make a difference. My answer assumes you are using a little html, php and mysql.

$33 a year for one website isn't a good deal in my eyes. Very little point (if you are planning ion affiliate marketing) limiting yourself to one website.

get an unlimited hosting account so you can run multiple sites.

Hostgator is a great starter host and you only pay monthly. Some hosting quote monthly prices but charge annually (Bluehost for instance).
I have shared and reseller hosting at Hostgator and have never had any issues that were not dealt with excellently by their support team.

I know someone above stated it was no good for software developers but that was cleary a self promotional post. I have deveoloped a quite a few pieces of software and Hostgator is my "standard". It's kept upto date and properly configured (PHP/MySQL etc). The hostings I have had issues with in that sense are the less well known ones that are often cheaper but you soon find out why.

assuming your getting your Domain name from Godaddy then don't host with them as well. It's generally a good idea to keep your Domain name separate from your hosting. Fall out with a company that has 100% control of your websites and you can be very stuck.

Good luck on your first site

Thanks all for the advice. To answer a few questions yes, I am using html, php, mysql. Nothing fancy, not many plugins or anything like that. Mostly just those that will let me monitor traffic.

Since this is my first excursion into the world of internet marketing I really only plan to focus on this one site and see where I stand in 6 months. As far as I'm concerned this will be a success if I make a sale or any money at all.

Not to say the my expectations are low, just a realistic. If my site turns out to be a success, meaning profitable, well then I will certainly not have any complaints!

Good luck with your project. I use hostgator and have no issues with them. I recommend the hatchling program since you are only going to create one site. Hostgator is nice because you can down load fantastico and set up a word press quickly.

It is smart to have your domain with a different company. So you can use godaddy for the domain & hostgator for the hosting. If you build sites in the future you can upgrade with hostgator easily.

          Chaddy,

There's a lot of good resources here on the forums. I can't go into detail too much on the forum without sounding like an advertisement, but if you'd like you can shoot me an email directly at brent@vopahost.com

I could get a better feel for what you're looking for without making 1,000 posts here on the forum. Not necessarily saying host with us, but here in Warrior Forum you're going to get pretty much everyone telling you to use HostGator...in most cases half of them have never even used another host.

HostGator is a great company, don't get me wrong, but there are better ones out there.

Yup, HG is a great host, until your website starts using resources. After that, the lag starts to show.

EDIT: And the same goes for Dreamhost, HostMonster, FatCow, JustHost etc. Pretty much any host offering "unlimited" disk space/bandwidth, is going to choke your sites performance when it starts getting used.

If it's on a "top-10" list, run far away. They're only there because they're a high paying affiliate.

Hostgator for about 8 years over 300 sites all hosted on diff servers. Outstanding customer service. If you have a large number of domains to host they will give you a dedicated person who will do everything for you. Move sites, install SSL's at huge discounts when you need them and so on. Also they have another service very inexpensive especially if you have a lot of blogs. Look at seohosting dot com. Hope this helps, you will never go wrong with them. Most of the people mentioned here, I have used over the years and obviously have left over customer service issues.

Don't host with GoDaddy. It's all right to register domains there, if you don't plan on flipping the domains. If you want to flip, go with NameCheap.

Hostgator is a good place to host.

Never register your domain where you host it. It's best to keep things separate.

I use Hostgator for hosting and have had just one problem in 5+ years.

I use GoDaddy for domain name registration, no problems.

I tried GoDaddy hosting about 3 years back and didn't like some of the oddities and limitations. I have also used several other hosting companies and have returned to Hostgator after encountering problems or limits. The only issue I have have with Hostgator was when I needed IonCube for one software product.

Chaddy, Definitely Hostgator is the best choice for Hosting. The problem with GoDaddy is that in spite of having great support, it doesn't have the cPanel interface for some weird reasons. cPanel is the best thing you can imagine for managing your hosting.

You can have your domains booked from GoDaddy and use the Hosting from HostGator. One advantage of this is that you don't have all your eggs in one basket. That setup can be of help during an unexpected situation.

Looking through these comments, I see a lot of people would choose Hostgator for hosting and GoDaddy for domain registration. Hostgator - good. Godaddy - bad for hosting AND bad for domain registration! There are just too many horror stories about GoDaddy and my own experience has been dismal.

I know, plenty of people have had no problems with GoDaddy registration but when you do have a problem, look out. Ever tried to transfer a domain from them? Some people I know have had no problem whatsoever - others, hair-pulling drama.

So, for what it's worth, Hostgator or Bluehost for hosting and Namecheap for registration.

I would recommend Host Gator, and then JustHost. I've tried many different hosting companies, and these two I have been well pleased with. I give a nod to JustHost because there customer support was terrific for me in the beginning of my online marketing career. Have nothing good to say about GoDaddy. Just bad & costly experiences with them. I'll just leave it at that. I could start a whole new thread on my negative sentiments in regards to them.

Also, for domains, I highly recommend NameCheap. Competitive prices, and excellent service.

One last thing. You said you were holding off on subscribing to an auto-responder service? I could start a new thread on this part of marketing as well! Tried many different ones, both free & paid. When I finally decided to go full-time in I.M., I realized the importance of having one of these in my marketing arsenal. I first tried Traffic Wave, then Get Response, and finally ended up (and stayed) with AWeber. Have been extremely satisfied with them. Well worth the small monthly fee. IMO, AWeber is an essential part of my business. Just my two-cents worth.

I wish you great success with all your online endeavors.

    Hello!

Try using HostGator. It's really easy to use and less hustle. It's very suitable for anyone and very handy. If you can get them to grow, then you can try jumping from this to another system which would be very great if you do.

    Best of Luck!

I like HostGator and use it for my blogs. GoDaddy tech support is hard to work with. Also they change pricing plans and never notify you. I'd go with HG

I've used multiple hosts, currently have most domains on Hostgator (mostly decent support) and Liquid Web unbelievably good support), was compelled to work recently with hosting on GoDaddy. In my recent experience GoDaddy is absolutely appalling if you want to work with cpanel or Wordpress. And their awful, if-you-want-cpanel-then-you're-on-your-own support (told "Just Google it" on 2 separate issues on 2 consecutive calls, on topics where I REALLY needed help and where Liquid Web would have walked me though it or even done it for me; and given no help whatsoever on a 3rd beyond "yeah, we don't do that") made me realize just how good Liquid Web's support is -- the best I've encountered.

I've been reading this forum for awhile and it seems most IMers recommend HostGator so there you go.
I use Godaddy only because I'd been using them for awhile before coming here. I use their Premium hosting which allows an "unlimited" # of sites for about $80/year and I've had zero downtime and no need for customer service. When I have called Godaddy with a question I've gotten through relatively quickly and gotten help. I buy all my domains there, again, because I started doing so before I heard of HostGator and now I just want to keep everything together in one spot.

Until or unless I have problems, therefore, I will continue to use Godaddy. And I don't know about HostGator but at Godaddy I can ALWAYS find coupons at fatwallet or such that give me domains for around $7.50-8.00. So the bottom line is, I'm happy with Godaddy and will continue to use them until I have a problem.

  • I would definitely go with Hostgator! I use them exclusively and they offer 24/7 customer support and every time I have used them they were extremely courteous and helpful!
