SeCockpit Gets The Job Done The Way All Keyword Tools Should
The speed and ability to test thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of keywords in a day make it really invaluable if you're looking to create many sites. Programs that rely on your own personal computer, your individual internet connection and your individual google account are going to be acceptably quick but if you're doing heavy research you will run into captcha and google eventually freezing your ability to search for the rest of the day. If you use proxies it might keep you from getting shut off, but proxies are another step in the process and will slow things down considerably (think Market Samurai). Thus the cloud really really does make sense in this instance.
I think this program is head and shoulders above the rest in this regard.
Its honestly moved the entire bottleneck in my business from keyword research to now creative. I can't think up ideas fast enough to keep up with the keyword research I'm able to do now. My brain has become the bottle neck in the system! Good problem to have right?
There are some features that I feel are wierdly missing though. I get the distinct impression from using the tool and watching the videos that the guys who created it are data nerds. When it comes to investing my money I am a data nerd as well. But, while I feel they do a great job of allowing you to analyze and make sense of large data sets rather quickly.. they also over generalize too.
Currently I'm using Long tail pro, and its a much simpler program but it tells you simple things like if the top ten results actually use the keyword your searching for, or if its in the description. Something that SECockpit really doesn't do.
The problem this might create is that there are keywords that you search for that will bring up pages with high authority on very authoritative domains... but those sites aren't truly focused on your keyword. Thus in SeCockpit it will look like there is strong competition (because it figures competition on Moz rank and juice links ect) but in reality those sites would be easily beaten if you created a site to focus specifically on that keyword.
Dependence on SeoMoz ranking
Its kinda my next little gripe. Both LTP and SeCockpit use SEOMoz data but SECockpit only shows you the Moz page rank, not the real PR. Not to mention SECockpit doesn't seem to consider EDU or GOV links "Juice Links"
Just in the last 24 hours I've noticed several results listed in SECockpit that said they had zero juice links only to go to Long Tail Pro an see they had thousands of EDU links (remember both programs are getting their data from the same provider.... so wheres the disconnect here??)
Thin feature set, especially for the price.
Wheres the features? The IM world has gone backwards in terms of features and abilities since Market Samurai. Market samurai I found out through The Challenge is really much more than keyword research. Being able to control everything through 1 pane of glass as they say in the tech industry is something companies are spending millions, possibly billions on each year.
SeCockpit ONLY does keyword research and it looks like they are going to upcharge to get any more features. At least give us a Rank checker that will plot out our sites ranking over time.. please at least that.
But there are so many other areas they could expand on.
So when I first started using it I figured I'd cancel my subscription to LTP but now I'm not so sure. I find myself looking at massive data sets in SECockpit narrowing them down quickly and then punching the keyword into LTP because I believe it gives a much more accurate view of the competition on the first page of google. I also still need to track where my websites are ranking so its useful for that as well.
Overall though I'm very happy with the product. What the product does is very narrow and they are already the premium priced product for keyword research but they do it damn well. Finally I feel like it should be much easier for them to expand their cloud offering to include anything under the sun to match their competitors, than it would be for their non cloud competitors to move to the cloud.
In the long run this should give them greater flexibility to adjust their offering to mirror the trends that come and go in the IM world.
