I'm Finally Done With Samurai Products (Market Samurai, Article Samurai)

It seems that the never ending quest to monetize existing products has finally caught on with the Market Samurai folks.

I have used them for years. However, the final straw for me is how they're beginning to charge for keyword rank tracking. They say it is to save money on development...however, they are requiring you to move to the cloud and begin paying for the privilege of using the product you originally paid good money for. Sure they have a 'free' plan, but the limits on the number of keywords they'll track for free pretty much excludes any serious internet marketer.

Anyone thinking of using Market Samurai or Article Samurai, consider SEO Moz (SEO Software. Simplified. | SEOmoz) which gives you the same functionality and is already cloud based. No local install. I'm in no way affiliated with SEO Moz, I just discovered them and the product is top notch.

The best way to send a message to companies that start charging after selling you a 'one time fee' product is to stop using them, move to the competition, and hurt them in the pocket book. This is bad business and should be punished with loss of business.

If you ever took the time to read their emails/blog posts you would know they didn't make that decision on their own. They took it because they were "forced" by google since they couldn't get the needed info through google anymore. You can read more about it here: Noble Samurai As you can see, that post is from January, so you would have known about it much longer then you do now if you took the time.

Honestly, I beta-tested the new version of the ranktracker, and personally, I love it more. I don't have to go in and do the update manually, it's done every week automatically now, and I don't mind paying the low amount of money they require to offer this.

I've also used market samurai for years.
Unfortunately whenever i needed the software the last months they had some new problems. Of course they were ambitious to get new sources for the data problem!
But fact is that i just couldn't work flawlessly with it anymore.

SEOmoz looks really good but for most people with $99/mo just too expensive.

The link-assistant software i found always to be pretty good and i might look into that again.
Just for checking ranks free you could also use SERP Page Rank!

What are you guys using for keyword and backlink analysis?

SEOmoz is about the best out there, but I agree, for most people the cost is too expensive. Market Samurai is a good product but I find it a bit clunky in operation.

Maybe YOU should READ. I did mention that in my original post. Don't come in cussing at people when you're guilty of the very thing you're ranting about.

Point taken, many apologies, but it seems that more and more people want things for free. ITs not that expensive, all depends on how many you're tracking. Any software that's cheap generally doesn't work (or doesn't get the attention it deserves from support), and enterprise software (if you're a big company) gets expensive quick. I think this is the perfect solution.

That said, I agree with you regarding Article Samurai. Tried it. Not worth it.

If you cannot afford SEOMoz get out of business. It boggles the mind how many people want to start a business with no capital whatsoever. Get serious and you won't have to put up with such second rate mistakes. I haven't touched Market Samurai in years. Strictly SEoMoz and Link Assistant.

Is everyone aware that you get get all the same information just by using google adwords tool? All these software SEO programs are highly disappointing if you ask me. I found the best and only place to do REAL effective keyword research is on Alexa.com. You want a solid keyword tool-that's the place to go...And it's free! Doesn't cost a penny

it all depends how often you need to be doing the research

for instance I used the free trial of Market Samurai to research the buyers words for my main site and the info has proved spot on - those words are still the best words for my niche/market and I am not planning to re-do the work because it is an evergreen niche

if you are creating lots of sites then sure you need to have the tools and SEOmoz is awesome I agree but if you are just starting then the free tools will do just fine

I now use Authority Labs to monitor rankings and that really is worth the money because the rankings are really believable and there is loads of functionality like grouping key words together and other really useful info

I don't know but I just never liked their products. When I checked their data manually, it seemed inaccurate. When I have asked about this issue, I didn't get a satisfactory answer. But this was like a year ago. So I didn't trust the data.

SEOMoz i think is the most accurate rank tracker I have found so far. It tracks not just site results, but also Google Places, Video and Image! Their tools are just awesome. I love their on-page reports, and of course Open Site Explorer competition compare. Must have and worth the price!

The only thing is that I wish they had the option to check rankings anytime, rather than once per week.
