Commission Junction Users - do they pay or scam you?

Hi! I guess the subject/thread title says it all, but I'm basically curious if you've had any positive and/or negative experiences to share?

THANKS!

They pay me OK for commission on sales. I've had no problems with CJ. (to date)

I suppose I'm asking less because I'm worried they'll "scam me" but more for the "mechanics" in that I have an affiliate for GoDaddy via CJ, and I grabbed some code for some banners and I just wonder if they're properly tracking my code.

You know, they don't give you an actual affiliate URL link like Aweber, 1shoppingcart, and pretty much any other affiliate program I can think of.

So that's why I'm asking, and to see if simply copying and pasting the code for banners actually works - I mean, I clicked on them and they go to GoDaddy, no problem, but I have no idea if they're "carrying" my affiliate code with them, there's no way to tell if the code I've copied has an affiliate code.

      Hope I'm making sense....

When you make your link there is a pop up where you put in your affiliate ID...check to see that the affiliate ID is in the link you made.
For example..here is the CB product Top Secret Fat Loss Secret....

    <a href="http:/AFFILIATE ID .fatsecret.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">Fat Loss</a>

Hi there, LilBlackDress - I think you're referring to Clickbank, not Commission Junction, as I do recognize that info you're referring to from having created links via Clickbank.... but thanks!

PS: do you "do" commission junction?

If you go into the reporting section it will tell you how many "clicks" you have received. Just copy and paste the code a few times into your browser and make sure they clicks are showing up. The reporting can be a bit behind though. If you copy the aff link correctly you shouldn't have any problems, although testing is always a good thing.

part of that code they give you includes your affiliate info..

I do some stuff with CJ, and here's my gripe:

It seems you are at the mercy of the vendor, who can approve/disapprove your sales/leads. They can decide that none of your leads/sales were 'good', and simply cancel them - which means no check from CJ.

I had one vendor who took several months to approve sales! I sent something to one of my lists, and it took MONTHS to start seeing them reported and having some money trickle in. The vendor took many months AFTER people purchased to 'approve' them and credit me!

BTW - I'd be carefull of promoting any webhosting.. most of them only pay you if the customer signs up and pays for 1 full year of hosting.. but since most people sign up for monthly, the affiliate get's nothing.

Been using Commission Junction for years and have never had a problem in terms of getting credit for sales, leads, etc.. and have always been paid on time via eletronic deposit.

My only gripe is that if you have alot of different sites using many of the different merchants that CJ offers it can be a pain to moniter the advertisers that constantly get deactivated or reactivated.

    Respectfully,

I have never got paid by CJ and I was right there when two people ordered from my website. I no longer do business with them. That doesn't count the time Lisa (my other half ordered from my site, I never got paid for that either!

Bass Pro shops had their own affiliate program and I was doing pretty well each month with them, they changed to CJ and I never had a sale since, according to them.

I don't get how CJ works, but they work for me.
For example, I just found a few hundred dollars in my account deposited recently. This MUST be from leads and follow up sales from several months ago. I never understand quite how/when I'll get money -- but I do get it. And yeah, there interface truly sucks.

But they do work for me

I have been testing split testing 2 competing companies on CJ.. this is for leads/CPA, and the user experience between the 2 is pretty much the same.

So far, one has a conversion rate over 44% for me and makes me some money every day.

    the other one?? zero.

something fishy with that second vendor

I agree that much trust is required on the part of the affiliate with the CJ setup. But that is pretty much the case with all the CPA stuff. If we really knew how many sales we lose, we'd probably all be ready to storm the palace doors.

I have been using commission junction for about 2 years now and I've never had any issues with them regarding getting my credit for my sales or leads. They've always paid me on time into my online account, although when joined initially they only offered payment by cheque. Frequently however, many advertisers may be deactivated or reactivated on a continual basis, so this can somtimes cause some problems when monitoring your merchant sources. Overall though, I'm very happy with them!

CJ scam me about a few years ago.

I guess because my country has a low credibility. So, they always think I'm trying to 'fraud' their sales.

CJ is the only one affiliate network who scam me. So bad.

I also had sales that never made it to my reports on CJ and I quit using them. One of the sales was one I made myself for a co-worker who didn't have computer access - I tried over and over again to contact CJ about it and never once got a response.

There was also a report that there was some link hijacking going on that involved the company somehow. Can't remember where I saw it but if you google "CJ scams" you will probably run into it. Can't hurt to do that anyway - see if there are a lot of others with problems, too.

If you google ANY product or service with a prefix (or suffix) "scam" you will find them.
      If you based any decisions on finding internet prats moaning about X,Y or Z scamming them you'd never buy or hire anything. These idiots who moan have normally either;

      a) Not done something right,
      b) Are bad at their job or...
      c) Have broken TOS (as those of you above who claim to have bought stuff yourself from through your own affiliate link on CJ - it's not allowed on most affiliate networks - people do it - but they shouldn't, if you use your own credit details, address or whatever, CJ will know and dissalow the commission, read the TOS)

We live in a society where people expect to get stuff handed to them on a plate, and if they don't..it's a scam.

I use Amazon, CJ and a little Adsense for everything now, they are all rock solid for me. They all return THOUSANDS of results for "scam" query as well.

Clickbank scam has about the most results of any affiliate I have tested BTW, yet in 2004-2009 I sold affiliate ebooks for Warcraft and made tens of thousands of dollars and they never missed a payment.

In case you are wondering why I stopped: Warcraft ebooks are now a waste of time mainly due to the ingame functionality making most of them obsolete.

CB has very few good products now, they are the equivalent of the small ads at the back of a seedy magazine

No matter though, they paid me on time...every time as do Adsense, Amazon and my favourite (never a late payment) CJ.

But don't use them if you don't want to.
      Less competition for me.

We have 16 sales not commissioned by CJ. And as one of the posters said earlier, these 16 sales were purchased literately in front of our eyes. By customers who came to our office, using our affiliate links including tracking from their laptops.
We reported them to various agencies, no results so far. Isn't it about time to form a global victims group?
Actually, we just had one small success in going after them: Manufacturer of a radar detection device (speed traps, etc.) is not selling his product through CJ anymore after he learned that we were cheated out of 5 sales on his product alone.

There have been a few threads about CJ problems. One that I'll remember for awhile was by tommygadget titled "you don't always get what's coming". Something like that.

Plus I was reading this thread looking for a way to confirm that your aff link is working. That is really simple with CB or with a RAP script. So far the closest anyone has come to that is mentioning that 'your aff info is in the code that they give you.' What I really want to know though is 'Is it working?'

If there isn't some simple way I can check like seeing my paypal name come up when I click the buy button, I am just not gonna get into it.

I had CJ not pay me around $500 in commissions from one particular merchant. When I wrote them they told me I would have to contact the merchant directly to try and get the money. Well isnt that CJ's job and why we use them in first place?

Yea, I've always wondered about CJ kind of. It's made me kind of hesitant to promote through them. I made a hostgator sale that I watched in front of my own eyes and it showed up fine in my account for 45 days, which that's the amount of time they give you to finally credit the commission payable. Well as soon as day 45 hit it all of a sudden disappeared I was like what the heck? I contacted them and it was kind of a back and forth thing and finally they responded and said to contact the merchant directly so I did and I didn't get anything back forever so I decided to contact hostgator every way I could and finally I got a response back and they said this person has been a user before so that's why I didn't get credit for the sale. I told them the exact story behind the whole thing and that it was my mother who signed up for the hosting, well they were pretty much set on not giving me my commission until I told them that if that's the case then she would like a refund and we would take her hosting somewhere else and as soon as I said that they asked me for my paypal address and the commission was payed to me directly by hostgator within a few minutes lol.

It might be a lol to you, but to me that is an indication that there is a bit (or a lot?) of dishonesty somewhere. It is nice that you did manage to get paid for something you were entitled to, but to me that would be a nnn. As in no, no, no, I'll look for something else to promote.

It's hard to believe that sort of stuff. What happens when you miss a commission with a buyer who doesn't know you, and doesn't really care about sorting it all out?

CJ had some weird confusing way to enter Canadian banks for direct deposit. I tried a few times and it needed a weird number. I had $79 in the account. So I didn't have time to call them... then I logged in a few months later and found out that they took $10 out per month for accounts that weren't actively making money.

So I tried contacting them via help form and ran out of time. Tried contacting a few more times but their contact form doesn't work. So I called them about the fees, and their contact form and direct deposits. They showed me in the help file in small print that you need to reverse your bank routing/sort number and add a 0 to the start of it. The guy was like, Yah that is weird and weird that they didn't make it more obvious. He said they can't give me back the money in fees and that the only way to get my money was to get it back to $50 (it's sitting at $39), or cancel the account. I cancelled the account and I'm waiting on payment now.

They seem like complete idiots in there. If you see something worth promoting, I guess you should go for it. If you can promote Clickbank, or something else, I'd probably recommend you do that lol.

I have been using CJ for a couple of months now. For me I find them fairly easy to track. I have been getting paid consistently between the 19th-23rd of every month. Commisions close on the 10th, their is a review period, and then EFT is issued. The only problem that I have noticed is with their reports. Their reporting isn't "live". Typically if I'm consulting someone and they decide to get Hosting, I'll watch them click thru from my page, and place an order. Then I will go check my reports to verify that I received credit. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours before the click will register, and the sale shortly after that. So far I have received credit for all of the plans from consulting, but if there's anything suspect about CJ it's the way they report.

I was promoting godaddy myself through CJ a couple of months ago, up until a mate of mine wanted me to build him a website which I did and it was payed for through my link with my mates credit card.
I did not recieve the commision for it, and did not get the response from CJ that I was hoping for, I have since left them and joined another affiliate program promoting a different web hosting company.
Which is a shame because I use godaddy for all of my site's.

This is the 3rd straight time they did not pay me for web hosting affiliate!

I usually have my clients register for web hosting through my link and I walk them through the entire process so I am 100% sure that they signed up.

Each time I email them, all I get back is a template BS answer about how cookies sometimes don't register blah blah and that I should email them and the hosting company to get credit. I did as I was told and DID NOT even get a reply nor acknowledgment that they received my email.

Total unprofessional-ism and lack of urgency on their part.

If you are not tracking your affiliate links, I'm sure you are being cheated from your commission as well!

No trouble getting paid with CJ. Have had a few problems keeping track of all the affiliate programs I've run. The same advertiser can get deactivated then reactivated in the space of a few weeks. The companies that are running these offers are testing the leads and trying to find out which ones are converting the best. I haven't been able to find any foolproof software for monitoring this so it is just a pain that I put up with. If you find some good software don't hesitate to share it with the rest of us Good luck!

Commission Junction is a joke. I ran various test purchases and no advertisers paid. I did the same thing on Linkshare, Avantlink, ShareaSale and Ebay Pepperjam and they all registered payments right away. CJ is a scam as they allow their advertisers to decide whether to pay or not.

I am happy to report that even though it took over a week, all the test purchases I made finally showed up on Commission Junction as sales, so I will be adding back their datafeeds on my site. You would think that the largest affiliate network would have the technology to have instant recording of sales, but that is not the case. But I am happy that the sales finally showed up and I can get on with business.
