Looking for laptop recommendation

My husband is looking for a laptop. Here's what his main needs are:

- Being able to edit and publish long videos with Camtasia (he does a LOT of edits in each video) - fast

- Having Chrome and Firefox open at the same time, the latter with a lot of tabs open.

Otherwise he just uses the usual minor applications like Skype, a text editor, Open Office, etc.

The weight of the laptop doesn't matter much as he doesn't go very far with it most of the time, just between our home office and office-office which are really close.

Any advice/recommendations?

I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad from newegg.com.
I freaking love this thing. I had a powerful laptop before but this is way stronger.

I payed 499 for it shipped and I will say it is on scale with a lot of 1000 dollar lappys.

It is the model z575. It has a quad core amd A6 APU for its main processors and it is a monster. The amd chips are best (imo) for graphics and this laptop also has another radeon graphix chip. As for as graphics go it is on par with ps3 and xbox 360 which is hard to do in a laptop or one under 1200$. This laptop will run your video editing software into another dimension.

The speakers are great (only 2 but are still louder than the hp beats audio laptops). The keyboard is great. The touch pad is a bit big but, you get used to it. The finish is in a aluminum gunmetal purplish color which looks great in person and is not at all cheaply made like the new toshibas Hps which are crappy plastic.

I looked at a lot of laptops before purchasing this one. Hands down it was the best choice. If you cant tell I am so happy with it.

If you go to newegg to buy one, be cautious because there are 2 ideapad z575. One with an amd A8 processor and one with an AMD A6 processor. Both are quad core and definetely stronger than a Intel i3.
Get the one with the A6 processor. It is a little weaker but not noticeably much at all. They do not tell you on their website that the one with the A6 processors has an extra graphics chip and the A8 does not. They are the same price but the extra graphics with the A6 make it a lot stronger than the A8 laptop. Both are 499 and free shipping.

    edit:
Compared to a Macbook pro, the lenovo is probably a good 40% stronger and comparable to a mac that costs around $2000. I personally boycott apple because of their business practices but if money is no object and you are not good with windows, macbook pro is a good option.

Good luck. Sorry for the misspellings.

I am partial to Apple so I would recommend a MacBook Pro. I have non-apple friends and even with virus protection, they are constantly dealing with viruses (usually from free kids game downloads). Mac's cost more, but I think they are worth it, especially if you do any graphics.

      Thanks.

My husband asked for recommendations for a Windows system only. No offense to Mac users

      Any other recommendations?

I would appreciate numbers as well: which processor, how much RAM and what video card with how much RAM, etc.

      Thanks so much.

Ha ha ha.... No prob. If you are looking for Windows, I think go for Windows 7 and have an option to upgrade to Windows 8.

Get 3rd Generation iCore7 processor with at least 8GB memory. If it also include an addition 512MB memory it will be ideal.

That's a lot of graphics processing power. And it can cost as much as $1500+.

ps. I also added a sandisk 120gb solid state drive to this laptop from newegg for 125 extra. It takes about 10 seconds for this sucker to load all applications on start.

good luck on what ever you choose.

Apple product is the best choice for that. Using high end hardware and software, I think very easy to do. You can choose some product variation that match with your need.

I recently picked up the Asus Aspire. Was only 499 at best buy. AMD8 with 2.5 quad core, decent graphics card blah blah.. I don't see why your husband would need a 1000+ dollar computer when its only camstasia video edits. Although Macs are very nice I must admit.

Ok - if you dont care about the weight then you HAVE to look at the Toshiba Qosmio. It is not cheap but - try about $3000 - with the dual hard drive and the top of the line model. Bascially its not he cost of it that really gets you - its the SPEED this thing goes at. Def get W7 with upgrade ability but Toshiba is super heavily duty for users that dont want to go to mac but want the quality of a mac for the videos.
The memory is super important for you to hold open many many many screens in Firefox and IE. Talking from exp here _ There is times that I hit the button on the > and watch the screens fly past and just keep going and going - I forget how many I have open at some points But Its neverfailed so far.

So My Choice - Toshiba Qosmio with the full specs you can get and afford. Its 3 years old too btw and still better than my other acer aspire and hp ones.
