Hosting for Wordpress

Hi guys and gals!

I notice there are wordpress hosting sites for wordpress only and they are quite costly at min $27 per month.

I also notice that if i were to go for vps hosting , it might only cost me $20 per month, and i have the ability to host multiple sites (wordpress or otherwise)

May i know if you were starting a blog, which service would you use and why?

Thanks a bunch!

Hostgator seems to be the defacto I keep hearing about. I host on GoDaddy (I know, I know I'm about to get vilified). I pay $6 a month for 25 WP instances - works for me!

Hostgator serves its puropse perfectly for people starting out or who want a simple, easy to use and low cost solution. I would go with them if you fall into any of those categories.

There staff is really helpful and I remember as a beginner to im it was necessary for someone to help me out a lot when setting up my first few word press sites. I also believe you can get the baby plan for under 10 per month and be able to host a numerous amount of wordpress sites, depending on your daily traffic.

I have always heard bad things about Godaddy hosting. I have never used them so I cannot state any truth to this. I always used Hostgator and anytime I have any technical issues their live support is a lifesaver. I am a hostgator customer for life.

Well, we shouldn't use both hosting and domain from one provider.......... it would be helpful at the time of any issue...

So HostGator and Godaddy is really good for lots of webmasters and bloggers..

I use Hostgator, the Business plan in particular and it's great.

I like Hostgator for a number of reasons, including:

    1) Their customer support is fast and reliable. When I had an issue with one of my sites or when I had a certain question, I just chatted with them live and they always responded to me within minutes with a great answer.

You can also call them up using their toll-free number to get answers for any questions you may have.

    2) Unlimited diskspace, bandwidth, domains, email addresses - Self-explanatory.

    3) I don't think $15/month (that's the Business plan) is a bad price considering all the features and functions that come with it.

    4) Their affiliate program is AWESOME - If you reach a certain number of referrals per month, they will pay you $100+/signup, which is really awesome. I haven't seen such a generous payout structure in a while. I have promoted Hostgator with success.

Hostgator. @ $9/month, it is affordable for everyone, excellent customer service and you can host multiple smaller sites. There is also no subscription wheree you can pay monthly (good for people having no credit cards attached to their paypal accounts). I plan to get VPS but still with hostgator.

You won't need WordPress specific hosting. Most hosts are based on a control panel called cPanel which usually includes Softaculous or Fantastico which can be used to automatically install WordPress.

Most shared hosts will have packages that allow you to host multiple domains, so you won't need a VPS for that. In fact, I would caution you to avoid using a VPS. Many people who purchase a VPS realize that VPSs are too complicated for them to manage.

HostGator is a good cPanel host (as several other people have already suggested). You could get the "Baby" plan with multiple domains and a monthly billing cycle for under $10/month. If you end up going with HostGator make sure to use a coupon. I have a few listed here.

True, if you are not technically inclined and looking for a VPS, I recommend getting a Managed VPS with cPanel.

"WordPress Hosting" is a sales gimmick... Beware!

There is nothing special required that a normal hosting account wouldn't have: PHP and MySQL.

Go to the WP download page and read about the minimum requirements. That's all you need.

I second that. Buy hosting from a company that will give you great service. That is the most important thing aside from price.

Exclusive wordpress hosting is a marketing gimmick except the one provided by wordpress parent company for top sites (that costs $500 per month for hosting!)

If you have low traffic you can even go for shared hosting it wont cost you more than 30$ per year. I can suggest you the hosting provider we use : US Web Hosting they offer Cpanel hosting with Softaculous with one click auto installer for wordpress to get you started with wordpress site in couple of minute. The best part is there support they are far better than previous host we have used.

I've used several hosts and I prefer Hostgator right now. They have excellent service and a lot of features - Fantastico scripts for easy WordPress installation, for example.

I hear a lot of good things about Bluehost, though, and although they don't have Fantastico, they have Simple Scripts which may be comparable.

Supposedly, WordPress favors Simple Scripts, but I don't know if there's a "financial" reason for doing so. Certainly, Fantastico works quite well.

I've been thinking about trying out Bluehost to see how they perform.

I would suggest avoiding LunarPages unless you plan on very small sites and not all that many of them. They start warning you if you exceed somewhere around 3% of their server resources as opposed to 25% for Hostgator. A huge difference. I've had sites suspended there temporarily several times. I still have a few LP sites but I'm cloning them and transferring them bit by bit.

Hostgator is great, one of the top 2 out there, but it's costly, 9.95 per month for Baby Plan, unlimited sites.

Host For Web is excellent, as good as Hostgator in uptime and support and they are cheaper, they always have a coupon, right now it's Autumn which gives you 20% off entire checkout, so if you prepay 6 months you will save, but even their on monthly payment plan is less than Hostgator.

Overall, both of them offer 99% up time, excellent support, up to date servers and software and everything you could ask for in a hassle free hosting plan.

Also, during Black Friday both Hostgator and Host For Web run super specials, usually HG is 50% off entire checkout and HFW has 80% off entire checkout
