Can anyone here recommend web hosting for UK/Europe?

I asked this on yahoo answers and all i got were affiliate links. That's no good because it could be the worst host on the planet and be recommended by it's affiliates.

I was with Hostgator up to now and even though they're excellent i understand they are most suited to US users and may load pages slightly slower for UK and European visitors.

So could anyone genuinely without any links recommend a cheap yet powerful host for UK and proximity.

Thanks.

What specifications are you looking for? Shared, reseller, VPS or dedicated?

Well it's for a small UK/Ireland and European accessible e-commerce so which ever suits a small online store the most.

Since it is for an e-commerce i am guessing it will have to be reseller hosting because after reading up on it shared seems to be useless and VPS seems too expensive starting off.

Shared & reseller hosting are usually hosted in the same environments. This means that all of the accounts under your reseller account will still have the same restrictions/limits of the shared hosting.

Can you provide some more information about your site? Size? Traffic? Platform? I'd be able to give you a much better idea of what you're going to need.

Okay i will be hosting more than one e-commerce website and 2 blogs. I don't expect huge traffic but my main priority is fast loading time for UK and European visitors.

You would most likely be alright to start off with shared hosting, but I wouldn't pile a bunch of websites on one account as addon domains, especially if they are ecommerce sites.

They're not based in the UK, but I've been using A1WHS.com for years - they've always been reliable, have great customer service and I've never had any problems with speed or anything! Really cheap, too. Definitely worth checking out.

Big Big Big recommendation for Vidahost for web hosting.

Not the cheapest at around £30 (I think) for a year but you can have up to 6 websites on the same account.

Here's the most important thing though - there customer service is absolutely outstanding.

You can get through on the phone to speak to someone in the daytime (and probably at night too but I have never tried) and if you send them a email question you will get a reply within 10 minutes ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT!!

I have sent questions at the weekend, holidays, Christmas period etc not expecting (or really needing) a reply straight away but I have never waited more than probably 30 minutes for my question to be answered.

Like I said, if you are making your choice based on price there is a lot cheaper out there. If you are looking for a good reliable partner that can help you out when needed I don't think they can be beat.

Hi there - here's a recommendation for you with no affiliate link

WebFaction - they are UK based and we have experience using them. I don't think they have phone support (which is strange) but email support / tickets are outstanding and very fast. They do not use cPanel. They use another control panel which is just as easy, but more powerful. You can setup sites and test them (live) before you associate them to a domain, for example. That's not possible in most hosting environments.

It's under $10/month USD. You can pay in GBP too I think.

Google them or just type webfaction.com and you'll find them.

    Does server location really matters?
I am with 4 different hosting companies and I don't even know where they are located... As long as I have good speed and uptime, server location is not a big deal to me..
