GFX Writer or Ecover Creator 2.0

Hey Warriors,

I have narrowed my search down to either GFX Writer or Ecover Creator 2.0 to create graphics for e-books and reports.

My reasons for choosing those two software products are:

  • apparent simplicity and user friendliness
  • no outside action requirements to deal with
  • cost

I just want something simple and fast to use where there is a minimal learning curve and without having to use Photoshop or any other outside products for actions.

What is your opinion of these 2 software products and which one would you choose?

Thank you,

Dennis

I have GFX Writer and it is very simple and easy to use. It requires a bit of practice at first, as might be expected, but it's possible to create attractive headers and ecovers in about 5 minutes.

There is a short user guide which accompanies the program. This is very basic but is adequate.

I don't have Ecover Creator 2.0 but when I checked it out I was disappointed with the graphics displayed on the sales page, along with misspellings on that page. Note that when you leave the sales page it reduces the price so that the program is available for $17. However, the interface looks more intuitive than that of GFXWriter.

GFX Writer has Big Mike's backing and the program checks for updates when it loads. As my copy hasn't updated for about 16 mths, I guess Big Mike considers that it is fairly robust in its present form.

GFX Writer does it all...allows you to 'create' the graphic..then turn that graphic into an e-cover..."binder", "CD', etc., etc.,....Whereas ECover Creator ONLY does the ebook cover...and you'll have to use another program to create the actual graphic.

Personally, since I don't have the time..ok..Patience really...to learn Photoshop, my money will be spent on GFX Writer..

        Hey Vicone and Ray,

        Excellent feedback.

Your input is very much appreciated. I was kind of leaning toward GFX Writer anyway, but your comments have convinced me that Big Mikes software is the way to go.

I hope that resolves your upgrade?

I've been using GFX in tandem with Paul Smithson's (XSitepro) XHeader freebie software, so it's possible to create a banner in either software and edit them using either.

      Hope this helps

I'm glad I ran across this page in a google search. I have just been looking into
cover graphic software recently. Thanks for the info. I will give these products a look.
GFX Writer sounds great. I'm wondering how long these products have been on the
    market though.

    Thanks
