Hello

I'm not reviewing.

I'm trying to find out if I'm missing something.

Let me state, I'm about as clueless and non-techie
as they come, so I might be missing something obvious;
which is why I"m here asking for feedback.

I'm paying $10 a month for a Baby Gator Account at Hostgator.
I like that they give you a lot of bandwidth and disk space, and
you can host unlimited sites.

Then I came across synthasite [dot]com, and they say
they give you UNLIMITED bandwidth AND disk space, for FREE.
There's a faq on the Support Page.

If you don't want to pay anything they give you subdomains, and
if you want to host your own domain, they charge $20 a year,
and evidently will host unlimited sites for that price as well.

Can this be right? Am I missing something?

They swear there are no ads on your site and never a hidden fee.

Does anyone have experience with synthasite?
If so, what is your review re their service?

Am I misreading things here? Am I missing something?

I wonder how they can do that and not charge more than $20
a year.

And if this is true, why am I (or anyone) paying hostgator (et al) $10 a month?

Thanks for you input!

    Thanks Carl.

I'm trying to wrap my head around it.

I can't see why anyone should pay for any hosting if they let you host unlimited domains for the single $20 yearly charge and they give you unlimited bandwidth
    and disk space.

    The mind boggles.

    Hi Bosco,

"Free hosting" is not unusual to find. On this synthasite host, you can build just one site, on a subdomain, for free. If you want to register your own domain, they charge you $19.95. You can usually register a domain name elsewhere for about $9.

The bandwidth and disk space on most hosts is not really "unlimited" - but most folks won't use enough to matter.

You might want to see if Synthasite has cpanel with Fantastico etc, for creating Wordpress blogs, for example. Not all hosts do. There might be upsells involved with them.

Well, I see on Synthasite you can build a site or a blog. I started a blog, it works pretty well. There are just a few templates, but you can customize them a little. Definitely a cool little free site.
I didn't go far enouigh into it to find out what the upsells are.

Your Hostgator account gives you unlimited domains also - as add-on domains, or you can make subdomains on your main domain, and has Fantastico.

Here's good free webhost with no ads, cpanel, Fantastico, a sitebuilder, etc:

if you are testing a niche, use squidoo.

If you are convinced the niche is buying and wants to build a site, use bluehost
