CutePDF Writer will let you print from Word to PDF without a watermark but I don't remember if it preserves hyperlinks or not.

CutePDF will preserve hyperlinks. I used to use this program at work. It's a pretty good free product, but I normally convert to PDF using MS Word 07.

Do you have at least Microsoft Word 2007? I actually never need to download a converter since the 2007 edition allows you to convert to PDF very easily. All you need to do is "Save As", then choose PDF.

Yes....exactly. MS Word 2007 - 2010 has ' save as pdf' function and the embedded links are preserved.

Acrobat works with Word 2010 only (properly) if you have upgraded to or bought Acrobat 10. Then you can use Save As and embedded links are preserved. If you have an older Acrobat version, you can work around this issue by using the export to pdf function in Word 2010, then the embedded links are preserved.

Yep - what the Gorilla said. And if you are on a Mac, just select File>Export>to PDF. Nothing tricky or complex or expensive.

Thanks Mekap04...Open Office is perfect...I guess all these companies bank on the fact that many people like me had never heard of it. I mean, I just don't see what it is these guys offer that is any different then the PDF I just made. It's not like my PDF's corners are crooked!

still trying to figure out how CNet...a reputable company...lists "free" software on their site...when they have to know Open Office exists.

I would go with libreoffice. Open office was bought out recurrently and a lot of the developers jumped ship and went to libreoffice. Its free and gives full office functionality and will allow you to export to pdf.

Not trying to be pompous here, but there are people in the world who don't use PDF conversions to make products for sale, whether for cash or an email address. For them the watermark means nothing.

You (OP), on the other hand, seem to believe that companies owe you a fully functioning, free piece of software, without getting something back in return. What about marketers that offer "free" reports that must be paid for with an email address and endless pitch mails? Are they also "misleading" and "playing dumb games"?

adobe themselves even created a very reasonable solution for budget minded people. its like $10 for a month of pdf creation. Just get your pdf ready and buy it for 1 month. Then you get virtually the same product (adobe acrobat) for $10/month that many of us paid something like $200 for.

BTW. not trying to be pompous (seems to be the word of the day), but how long did you look for a free solution to your problem? Sometimes the opportunity cost of searching for free solutions is much higher than just using a little cash to solve the problem to begin with and getting the appropriate software. I am such a dunce. I have Word 2010 and didn't realize I could save files as a PDF! :p

So when I needed to convert files to PDF, I DID find a free online converter that converted my files with no watermark whatsoever -- AND the links all work. The quality of the images in the conversion weren't as good as I'd like, but it was good enough.

I understand your frustration. Many aspects of IM are extremely tedious and time-consuming. But in the case, you didn't look hard enough or ask for advice as soon as you should have.

Eeeeexactly! Thank you! Someone who "gets" it. Too many Warriors offer advice like "Everything you need is here on the WF or can be found through Google. Just do a search."

That's just plain BAD advice.

True, you can keep your hard costs down by following that advice. But at what cost? Following that advice is like looking for a needle in a haystack. How much time are you going to lose? How many opportunities are you going to lose?

Business and the Internet moves so fast that you'll end up building a MatchBox car while your competitor has built a Rolls Royce.

Too many Warriors aren't willing to invest in their business. Worse, they have an entitlement mentality and think they should be given stuff for free (or virtually free).

Do you want to build a BUSINESS? Or just just have a hobby?

Certainly be smart about your expenses. But this is a BUSINESS and money SHOULD be spent.

cutePDF works perfect.. however to save hyperlink you must use a trick and not 'print as pdf'. You must do following:

When doc is ready with hyperlinks:
1. Go to File
2. Click 'Save and Send'
3. Click Send as PDF
4. You email client (outlook) will open with a blank email and the PDF file as attachment
5. Righ click the pdf file and choose copy
6. Go to folder where you want it and paste (ctrl + v)

There have been a lot of different methods mentioned... and all are great. If you still need more options to convert to PDF, you can use websites that convert for free. You upload your word document, or whatever document, and it will convert it to PDF and send it to your email. Do a google search for free online PDF converter.

Maybe you should try OpenOffice. OR if you have Word 2007 or higher, just click "Save As" and select PDF for your file type.

There is also eWriterPro - completely free and no watermark. THe only problem is that is doesn't run on Windows 7. However, if you are using an earlier version of Windows, it is an excellent piece of software.

I always convert wordpress posts to pdf immediately after publishing and then jump over and put them on scribd.

Your hyperlinks get saved too.. and I've been surprised to see a decent amount of traffic from scribd as a result.

You say you have Word 2003, right? I have the same, and it works perfectly with free PRIMO PDF. It installs and appears as a menu selection under the PRINT command...works flawlessly. Hope that helps!

one note about libreoffice, I didn't follow the story of openoffice, but recently I wanted to import a pdf for editing and in open office it doesn't work, it always open as ASCII, so I looked at a plugin to do that in open office and then I learned about the story about the fork libreoffice.
So I uninstalled openoffice and now go with libreoffice, it is basically exactly the same but better, more updates and functionnalities, so why not.
It's exactly the same that happened with Joomla when it forked out of Mambo, I don't know if you remember.. Now Mambo is unknown and Joomla is known..
Well I now use libreoffice and at least I can open/import pdf files as it should have been the case with openoffice!
