Seen these links for Wix being shared on facebook multiple times in the past few weeks, looks like they are at 67K+ likes...

Anyone have any idea on any specifics.

Thanks all.

Probably because they're free. Who doesn't like free? Seems like a good service, although I didn't give it more than a glance.

      Yeah fair enough.

I just think from a professional standpoint that no serious business owner in his or her right mind would actually use something like this as their main website and unfortunately that is exactly what many of them do and then complain saying they get no business from the web.

I also see services like this as bad for web developers in a way because its literally taking business away from them.

In a sense it could be seen as good for business for Internet marketers because of backlinks but then again it's much easier in my opinion to create blogger blogs, curate the content and send links that way, plus with any new platform your always going to have bugs, usually less features and not as many clued up people to support.

"Serious business owners" is not the target market. Freebie seekers are the target market and they wouldn't be buying from web developers anyway, just as I wouldn't give a site like this more than a 2-second glance.

Wix have free option or a paid one. Indeed the free one is either for small business owners who are unwilling to spend money/time on online presence, or for marketers back-linking purposes. However the paid version of Wix is not bad at all - it includes hosting and your own domain, web templates, unlimited space and etc. It's very agile and easy to use, kind of DIY websites platform, and it's quite popular as well.

As a web developer I love these services. After people take the cheap route, they start to understand the value of a developer and that FREE is not best!

I agree with IMPromo. The free version is not that good but it does help someone check out what they can do with Wix and test it out a little. The paid version though is really good and anyone with very little experience can create a pretty nice website with it for cheap. It is very popular like IMPromo said.

In my web design business I have had customers request their websites be built there, it is a very easy design platform that builds flash websites, wouldn't recommend it for your main website but is good like a blogger account for backlinks and to experiment with!
