Reseller Hosting: Kiosk.ws Vs. Hostgator/Others

Hello everyone. I am hoping to get some opinions on a question I have.

Just yesterday I signed up for a Titanium account with Kiosk.ws for 1 buck for the first month after getting a recommendation from a fellow marketer. Apparently lots of the "big dogs" like Filsaime use this host, and they positioned themselves as a "IM Friendly" host.

This sounded great, and the details of their package also sound great. But what was the downside? The price!

After your 1 dollar trial month, you are paying 45 bucks a month for your web hosting. The package gives you 200GB of data transfer and 70GB of data storage. Since it is a reseller account, you obviously get Web Host Manager and can create cPanel accounts for each individual website you want to host.

Compare this to Hostgator (Or please give me other recommendations), which offers their lowest tiered reseller account for 24.95 a month which offers 250 GB Data transfer and 24 GB data storage.

So there are the basic statistics. While Kiosk.ws offers 46GB more storage space, they offer 50GB less data transfer than Hostgator, but Hostgator is also a full 20 dollars cheaper a month.

Here is where the grey area comes in:
As I mentioned Kiosk has positioned themselves to me a Host FOR IMers. Their affiliate program is made up of a forced matrix MLM scheme. Meaning basically, if you worked really hard, you could easily make more money per month as an affiliate than your plan costs. **IF** being the big phrase. I have heard lots of reviews on their hosting that claims the reason their price is so high is because all the affiliates want the price to remain higher to get better commissions.

Kiosk also offers several IM-geared features that help justify the 45 dollar pricetag, such as a lead-generation software (which sounds an awful lot like a simple form builder to capture names/addresses) and an autoresponder service (which is supposed to make an Aweber subscription unnecessary... But we all know that we are going to still use Aweber even if our host offers a inferior FREE solution if we take our business seriously)

Basically what this all boils down to: Does the interesting MLM based affiliate program and the couple extra IM-geared extras make Kiosk.ws WORTH paying 20 dollars a month more than Hostgator?

Does anyone have experience with Kiosk as far as customer service and data center uptime is concerned? I know Mike Filsaime had a hell of a time launching BFM2.0, which I can only assume used Kiosk as their host?

I am simply realizing that while Kiosk may be a "IM Host", perhaps the extra couple bells and whistles really do not make enough of a difference to justify the price.

Agree? Disagree? Really would like some opinions from others with Kiosk and HG reseller accounts!

Thanks for sticking through this long winded post

Can't say anything about kiosk, as I've never checked it out...

I've been using the Hostgator reseller account for several months now, and I'm very satisfied. 99% of the support issues I've had have been self-inflicted, and I've gotten them resolved very quickly every time (sometimes while I'm still on the phone).

I have also used a Hostgator before as just a regular baby account. I have never had any problems with their services either.

I guess I am really hoping anyone who has experience with Kiosk or the services they offer can chime in and let me know if they are truly worth the high price tag versus a reputable shared hosting reseller such as Hostgator.

    Thanks John for your input!

I can't comment on Kiosk as I've never used them, however I can certainly vouch for Hostgator. I have a reseller account with them that I've had for a couple of years and I have always been more than satisfied with their uptime and support.

I vouch 100% for hostgator. I also have baby account for years, no problems. I had a kiosk account at one time, they were working on some newfangled 'autoresponder' (supersponder I think it's called) technology - which was not 100% up to speed. I personally would recommend hostgator, let me know how reseller serves you with hostgator, I might want to move some clients to it myself. Is it expensive?

This is the "Aweber alternative" I was talking about in my first post.

This is the main guts of what I am trying to figure out here.

Are these Kiosk "In house" services offered to members worth the dramatically higher hosting prices?

    TMJ,

    > Are these Kiosk "In house" services offered to members worth the dramatically higher hosting prices?

I was looking at it 3-4 years ago, if it's still not done, then I doubt it... you would have to look at how they offer it. From what I saw at the time it was not close to what I could do with my own mail server, but it looked like they were trying to add all of these features to it, so I can't say, maybe someone else can chime in that uses it now...

I use Kiosk and have been for a few years now. These guys got their act together when it comes to having Internet Marketers as clients. I have a resellers account and I absolutely love it.

This is one (if not the only) company you can get on the phone with and actually speak to the owner of the company anytime night or day of there is a problem. Their HotConference software is killer too. (Major upgrades)

Mike Filsaime recommends them because these guys know marketing and a marketers needs. That's the biggest reason I went with Kiosk.

      Mike:
      Thanks for chiming in.

For a fairly new marketer such as myself (who already had prepaid a year of Aweber)

Are the things offered by Kiosk (Aside from the customer support), worth the extra cash?

Since the SuperSponder isnt something I need, right there is a huge benefit of their service that isn't doing me any good.

I guess I am just skeptical that their "IM friendly service" makes a huge difference, especially when Hostgator has really good service as well.

I don't use any of the extras... I like Kiosk because I can get a hold of them via phone if I really need to, their support tickets get answered quickly and they are extremely internet marketer friendly. They understand what we do... The peace of mind is worth more than that!

Call up Kiosk and talk to them... Then call HostGator on the phone - Oh wait, you can't. Kiosk owns their servers unlike Hostgator so if there's a problem HostGator is at the mercy of their server providers, unlike Kiosk.

So the money I spend every year with Kiosk is well worth it for me!

          Hostgator is a reseller themselves?

That I was not aware of, but will look into further. That seems unlikely to me seeing as how huge they are, but I do not doubt you. Just surprising to me is all.

I appreciate your feedback on this thread Mike, I also really enjoyed checking your sig links! Good stuff!

That's interesting Mike. Maybe you can give me the number so I can call them! I think the service is bad and I cannot find a reliable way of contacting them. The help desk sometimes takes over 24 hours to answer my post - and they are obviously in some far off country where English is NOT the first language. It usually takes quite a few times of re-posting until they get the story right.
On the other hand, Enrique in the conference help room is truly great. If he can't fix the problem, he finds someone who can. Trouble is, he needs to sleep too, and the conference room is abandoned as much as it is manned, so as of right now that means there was no one there all last night, and no one there all day today. I have had enough and as much as I hate having to move everything to another host, I think the time has come for me to pack up and move on.

I think Hostgator is more established than Kiosk... they own and manage more servers than Kiosk.
