VooPlayer is a video player that was featured as a WSO back in December with a lot of success. They've been having server issues all day and I just logged on and saw that they've been hacked (you can see attachment of screen shot).

Unlike most other video players, with VooPlayer everything is managed on their server. You put in the link to your video and it generates a javascript code that you embed on your site. You do not download the player itself.

This made me a bit nervous, but I still went ahead and purchased the product given the features.

However, this hacking makes it pretty clear to me that their model carries some unnecessary risk. It might be less expensive than Easy Video Player, but having sites unable to display videos is quite costly as well.

They sent me an email in response to a support ticket saying that their site had been hacked but only down for 2 hours and it was back up and running. Yet a couple of hours later it appears it was hacked again.

I'm curious as to how others feel about this. Any site can be hacked. But if we had the actual video player code that we could download than at least our videos would likely still be safe.

Thoughts?

    Hi Peter,

I own VooPlayer so I'll update you. During this attack it was down for 2 hours, then up and then down again a few hours later for another 30 mins or so I think. Besides that vicious attack, we have had an up-time of 99.99% over the past 2+ years. Since the hack we have hired a security expert to add to our staff as well as taken additional steps for backups and fail-overs. I'm not sure why Lloyd wanted to create a thread about it, as to me it's not really "unbelievable", but of course he is free to do as he wishes. Even Godaddy was hacked last year and was down for 2 days I believe. ANY site, including yours, can be hacked.

We have thousands of satisfied users and a very, very low refund rate. Ultimately it's up to you to decide what is best for your business, but as far as video players are concerned you can't get much better than VooPlayer

        Hello Lloyd,

any website can be vulnerable to cyber attacks. Though, even if the website got defaced, it does not necessarily mean that your data is at risk or got exposed.

If it is at risk, then the service provider will/should inform you of the situation.

        good luck
