Which Antivirus are you using?

I am using Avast and the Anti-virus module of ZoneAlarm Extreme although they dont like running simultaneously.

ZoneAlarm Extreme is a firewall with other security modules like, email, browser and spyware.

I used to use Nortons but it seemed to be getting worse instead of better. I have switched to free AVG but I think I am still getting something going through. My computer does wacky things sometimes. May have to go to a purchased version.

Hi,

I use to use Norton and i had at least 1 virus a week getting thru and i had to reinstall windows, I went to the paid version of AVG, and never looked back, I will always stay with AVG.

I was using Norton for the last 3 years. Last year I had to renew my 1 year subscription and it stopped working after 6 months! I recently switched to "Eset" and it's be doing the job since.

I have been using Norton Antivirus (internet security edition) and have never had any problems. As mentioned earlier it can slow your computer, but if you defrag the hd monthly this shouldn't be a problem.

The anti virus was annoying me.

I used Norton last year and hated it. was buggy and, frankly - didn't work. The geek squad guy at Best Buy told me to get Kaspersky so I did. It's actually much easier to use, doesnt eat up as much of your 'puter resources and doesn't pronounce everything I do to be "deadly".

I am using ESET anti-virus and keeps on updating it.. But some unwanted .exe files keeps showing up.. They get quarantined though but these files show up again once I restart my computer..

I'm happy with Bitdeffender. Doesn't seem to use much resources unless it's doing a full system scan. Integrates with Outlook for antiphishing - just updated to work with win7.

May have to give AVG a try though...

I'm using Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, SUPERAntispyware, and SpybotSearch&Destroy.

Next time I'm going with NOD.

The reality is most antivirus programs are useless. They are retroactive. It's not the virus you know about but the one that is sitting there silently sending info that is the problem.

Take it from someone who is still cleaning out hacked websites from an ftp trojan - the current list of FUD (fully undetectable) spyware sitting in cyberspace will blow your mind.

I've tried and tested most of them....but hands down Eset Smart Security (makers of Nod32) takes the cake....then Kapersksy

McAfee - resource hog
Norton - resource hog

Eset has a light RAM footprint and higher detection rate as well as a lower false / positive rate.

I have NORTON ANTIVIRUS ....... to that i added AVG ......... BIG MISTAKE ........
i stopped the quick response that i got when i clicked on any piece of email.

I called norton support and they said to take off the AVG immediately ...... i did so
than every thing got back to normal .......... both of them running together will
slow down or stop all email. have only one running at a time.

Ran into something a month ago, over that time I have downloaded all the above on trials etc., also did spyware cease no answer form support, good job, viper, did not find crap. Norton, spyware terminater, micro trend, nod, karpasky, etc etc, all of them would stomp a cookie and call it clean........but I knew something was going on.......so remembered in many spyware definitions in searching for info came up from CA internet security. If you actually believe your good and secure with that free crap that says its all good.........look up their free scan..............

Kaspersky, which I found out of all of them to be the most effective. (Norton always did a fine job but was an enormous resource hog.)

I also run Superantispyware and Malewarebytes scans weekly, as they catch things in their net even Kaspersky doesn't.

Since having these in my arsenal I have experienced not one serious infection.

Few years back, I was a great fan of BitDefender Internet Security but later on I got uncomfortable with it. it got too complex to set up for average users.

Lastly I tried ESET Smart Security and never got back to other AntiVirus. I'm comfortable with it. It consumes less System Memory than other similar programs. Scanning time is also very fast.

Norton Internet Security...

Say what you want about the older versions...They were indeed resource hogs..BUT..

I believe the 2010 version of Norton Internet Security is one of your very best choices. I have years of experience with computers, and have tried AVG, Bitdefender, Avast, and several others.

What is so good about the 2010 NIS is:

*Most all of the reviews say NIS does a great job overall, not just on virus, but adware, ect.

*It is much lighter on resources than their old versions..

*The presets to start scanning automatically when your computer isn't being used, and update itself many times per day without you even noticing is VERY helpful.

*Our experience is that this actually catches FAR more virus and malware attempts BEFORE any infection occurs.

Try it and I believe you will find it to be very effective...and worth the cost..

Looking at Negotiator's Avatar, I can definitely say those Viruses stroked hardly his computer and His full body as well.

Yes, it's true and Windows machine are vulnerable to virus kinds of things whereas Linux-based machine & MAC are the safest bet.

Not getting into the whole this one is better deal, but I use ESET Smart Security 4 and I love it! I've had Panda, AVG, and some others and this is by far the best (that I have found)...It's already stopped me from getting some bad stuff!

Right now I'm using Webroot (paid version). I'm really impressed with it. It found a trojan, that AVG didn't catch. Which I just stopped using. I quit using Norton years ago. I've used a lot of different anti-virus programs in the past.

Ive tried many . Yes Kaspersky is good ( But as you tell it has many holes in it ) . Now Am useing Norton . Yes it has its own cons ( makes the system slow , Often dosent allow us to install some essential software etc. ) . But in case of security - its actually doing a very good job ! I just need to tweek it now and then to adjust my stuff to get inside .

Used to use Norton 360 but like others said, it bogged down my system.

Now I use Comodo Internet Security.

I plan on upgrading to the Pro for the Wi-Fi secure pipeline for public areas (coffee shops, library, airports, etc.), but for now the free version does everything else I need.
