Default AutoResponder Software vs. Monthly Subscription?

I am trying to decide if I should buy software rather than start with a new company for auto response?

I have no experience with software and minimal experience with the monthly subscription.

Any feedback?

Thanks!

Pam

I would say that many factors should affect that decision, but one right off the bat would be money and expertise, either yours or someone you have avaiable to help you.

To add to what Kim said:

1) Does your hosting provider allow you to host an autoresponder?

2) Theres a WSO ($5) on setting up your own FREE autoresponder, check it out.

I have no problem with installation of software as my husband is a bit of a geek. We are trying to determine whether over the long haul we would rather own the software and not pay any further. I just dont know of anyone who has purchased it.

I did just get a $5 autoresponder as an experiment. Ofcourse we had a problem and there is no support. That was the reason we thought we should consider the monthly payments or buying something with support.

I dont expect a need for massive lists (for sometime) so I was thinking perhaps aweber is overkill at this point.

Thanks!

Pam

The two most important considerations pertaining to Autoresponders (AR) for a beginner are:

1. Return On Investment (ROI)
2. Delivery Rates (DR)

The main difference between an AR Service (monthly subscription) and self-managed (self-hosted on your website) is the DR. A service such as AWeber.com does a professional job of insuring high DR.

Many factors determine DR. As a beginner, you only need to answer one question..

"Am I professionally capable of insuring high delivery rates?" If you answered yes then a self-managed AR is in your best interest. However, if you are **not** capable of insuring high DR then your business should depend on an AR Service.

You may be interested to know that an AR Service maintains contact with principals of the internet industry to insure high DR. Also interesting, though disputable, self-managed ARs by inexperienced users typically attain a low DR between 70% to 75%.

Not all web hosts allow ARs. If you decide to use a self-managed AR I suggest that you check the sales site for a list of web hosts that allow ARs.

Over the years I have come to trust in my own service as I am a web host. I use and recommend Autoresponder PRO. There is a WSO for it now.

Last, if your web host includes cPanel, there is a low-end autoresponder in your control panel. It is good enough for a low budget.

I've been using the Autoresponse Plus script for years. It's the best around.
You do need to check with your host on their mailing limits.
