Elance.com vs Freelancer.com

Just a simple experience I want to share & might be useful to you.

I've been using getafreelancer.com since 2005 (now freelancer.com) until late last year when they changed their system on payments. I thought I already explained it in details in other threads. Yes, I never had any problem except for people pestering my projects. The thing that I really didn't like is the people bidding without reading the content. It is extremely annoying when you specified that you need a native English editor and got tons of bids from India, Pakistan, and other non-English speaking countries. I'm not trying to play a race card. I just wanted to make sure that as a good paying customer, I get what I want. To make the story short, I don't like freelancer.com for such reason, and that unexplainable fees.

Last month I started looking for some alternatives. Yes, I have team of article writers but writing a fiction is on another level, and no one in my team including me can handle such thing honestly so I decided to post a project on elance.com. I did the same thing. I specified that I need only an editor who has experience in writing fiction and must be a native English speaker.

I got 16 offers, 9 from US, 4 from UK, 2 from Canada, and 1 from AUS. I am impressed with the result even before selecting the winner.I picked someone from Washington state and within 2 days, she delivered something beyond my expectation.

Some of you might have good experience with freelancer.com similar to what I experienced before but for some specific projects like this, I pick elance over freelancer based on what I explained above. I am not trying to promote any of these sites or put down any of them. I'm just sharing my good and bad experience that might be beneficial to some other warriors.

regards,
adie

    Adie,

I concur with you. eLance is at a higher standard altogether. English is my second language so I needed a native English speaker from the U.S to be specific. When I shopped around for an editor for my first book on Unconventional Ways to Buy and Sell your Property, I encountered the same issue. eLance helped me hire the right editor and I was able to publish my book last Summer.

English does not have to be your first language to write great content in English.

You would be surprised to know that these guys and ladies do really good work.

I have used Elance a lot in the past for writers, I actually found one guy and he was on my team about 5 years and paid out over 3k dollars and have always been happy. Im new to freelancer havent had much experience with it. There seem to be much more people on freelancer but then that also means more scammers.

People bidding on projects without reading them is a huge issue, they just put a blind bid down hoping to get the project. I usually put a secret word in the description to ensure they have read the full project details, they must put the secret word in their response, if they don’t I know it is not a real bid.

I'd rate them this way (I've worked with all 3)
      1. Odesk
      2. Elance
      3. Freelancer

Freelancer looks like their team is trying hard to keep up, but 1 and 2 are simply better

  • By my side I tried Elance, Freelancer and even Odesk.
But the unique service where I've found really good freelancers, doing only what I was asking for, has been Freelancer.com.

Nowadays I use it mainly for proof reading, and then for secondary tasks I can't take care of on my own.

This is just my point of view, nothing else
    See you soon,
    Alessandro

eLance anyday over Freelancer. I used them both. eLance has that "serious, professional and trusty" vibe about it. Freelancer has a vibe of "get me outta here!".
