IE Security Certificate

Hello members

I have a question concerning security certificates. I joined a hosting company and IE did not recognize its certificate. I precceded to the site. I have not experienced any problems. What are the implications?
If any!

Thanks

    Hi Ricky,

Your visitors may see a pop-up that says the SSL certs is not recognised or not from a authorized source (something to that effect). Once your visitor click OK, they can continue to your website.

Functionally, there is no impact to your website.

However, user experience-wise, if the users haven't seen such pop-up before may be "scared" off and you may loose a visitor that way.

    Note (some technical details here):

Sometimes this happens when the SSL cert provider comes up with new certs and need to update Microsoft on this. Microsoft will then include this new info in their regular patches for clients. Once your visitor patch up their notebook/PC, they will not be hit with the above problem anymore. Btw, this is assuming your webhost is using a valid public SSL cert (and not a private-generated SSL cert).

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to prevent this as the control is in your visitors' hand (for patching up his/her notebook/PC).
