The best looking or do you mean the most effective?

If it is most effective, I strongly recommend Clicked Studios

See their section on site design and goals at Site Design Clicked Studios

They focus on great looking functional sites that meet the customers objectives be it a sales site, brochure site, etc...

        I rate them 10/10.

        Regards,

        John

ps - No this is not my business. I know the owner and provided much of his training. He's one of my success stories.

The op specifically asked about the best looking designs. Not about functionality or conversions.

Unfortunately I have not found a design company that really lives up to my expectations of good looking designs. Most seem to make either really ugly designs or mostly do flash which I hate.

          Excellent, thank you!

I guess I should have said "best looking AND most effective" !!

EDIT: Hmmm, the sites on that page might be effective... but they are certainly not that attractive!

            You're welcome.

I feel a bit vindicated after reading Taylor's comments.

Personally, a good looking website is useless if it doesn't do what you need it to do.

I'll take a functional crappy looking site like craigslist over a glitzy eye-appealing site that just looks good.

            Regards,

            John

ps- Looking good and serving your goals are not mutually exclusive.

Did you look at all the sites in the portfolio section?

Keep in mind the sites are designed to customers specs.

Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Can you give your definition of best looking and/or a URL for one that you think fits your criteria?

            Regards,

            John

ps - Also keep in mind those are professional business sites and not internet marketers. You are going to find heavy flash, bell & whistles, and/or wild graphics.

Well that proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because I think they are pretty boring and bland. Just my opinion, though.

Some of the most profitable sites I ever owned were downright ugly!

However, they were focused and held the attention of the reader right to the point where they reached the call to action and jumped on the "click now" button.

My present sites tend to be more attractive as that suits their purpose and I use a few simple graphics to sum up the theme of the site and draw attention to the action I want them to take.

I might use some photos (of 'true believers') to provide social proof, but text is written for the search engines as well as the human visitor.

Web pages that I use have a clear purpose and every element contributes to that end, which is usually to obtain a high click through rate.

If the site is attractive as well, so be it. However, I don't build sites to win beauty contests. They are designed to produce revenue.

Google.com and Craigslist would not win any design awards, yet look at their effectiveness. Having a great looking site is nice, but certainly not the end all. My first and most ugly site still gets over 200 visitors per day and makes me more money than all the others.

There are several designers out there who are amazingly creative. Why not view the page source of your fave websites and see for yourself who designed them.

The majority of web designers are actually graphic designers who can create agorgeous site but know diddly about marketing. The fad among web designers these days is 'Flash'. It's eye-appealing and entertaining but is the worst thing you can do to your site in regard to SEO or user functionality.

Half the people in the U.S. visiting your site are on dial up connections. If you want them to stay on your site and come back to it, don't annoy them with 'Flash' or heavy graphics that take forever to load.

I can't stand flash. And I've been a web designer for 10+ years now! Not only does it detract from the functionality of a page (it's annoying to most people) but it will never do as well as plain old search engine optimized TEXT.

I don't care what Adobe says and how search engines are getting along with reading Flash files, Flash alone will never make the sale. Good, compelling sales copy that's strengthened by convincing graphics will ALWAYS win.

Consequently, I happen to do both

Been building, creating, and designing websites for better than 15 years.. Personally I hate flash and template looking websites. The best looking websites are truly in the eyes of the beholder, if the client is 100% happy then thats good enough.

But - the greatest looking website is the world can be deemed as failure with no traffic and sales. Functionality, user friendly, being consistent through the site, and many other factors play a key role.

I have seen some of the most ugliest websites produce thousands a week while the best looking ones just sat there and did nothing... I also know many that within 2 sec of seeing a site and it looks like a "marketers" site, they will leave no matter what the person is selling. I have been asked many times by clients "Why do all these marketers sites look alike, I do not want nothing like that so can you build me something 100% better?"

Then again there are many people that have a dislike for images all together and rather have a little color and text.. I have had some clients that wanted sites built with no images but maybe the logo.

There is a vast majority of a difference in opinion on this topic and not one persons opinion is really wrong because it does boil down to the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Somehow this turned into a "Which is better? Great looking sites, or ugly sites that produce?" thread, but that's not at all what I'm asking...

I'm looking for a website designer that can create great looking sites... and I was hoping for some recommendations.

    Anyone have any ??
