Anyone here use bbPress, simplepress vs phbBB, vBulletin?

Hi there,

It seems like everyone's been using, and thus are used to the nice simple and intuitive design of phpBB and then vBulletin, for a long long time. Most of the message boards I go to use one of the other.

People are telling me about SimplePress and bbPress now, as they are meant to integrate with wordpress seamlessly. I am interested in because I am using wordpress to make some membership sites.

HOWEVER, I don't know much about either SimplePress and bbPress, how customizable or SCALABLE they are.

My big fear is that, because they LOOK to cluttered and COMPLICATED to use and register, that people won't use them.

Am I wrong? Are they are good or better? If I decide to move my discussion board to another host, will I be able to migrate the forum as well? Are the customizable and easy to read?

Your thoughts are appreciated!

Thank you.

I rarely if ever have used a board that wasn't Vbulletin or phpBB.

I don't mind the way this one looks (very sort of drupalesk?): Support Forum | Simpleress Forum

But I'm not a fan of this one at all: bbPress Support Forums

    • I just launched a support forum for my product, ReviewAZON a couple of weeks ago and after looking at the options I went with phpBB. I love vBulletin, but I decided to go the free route for this one and I must say I am very pleased.

One of the things that I really like about the phpBB board is that it is very user friendly and there is support for modifications (MODs). My situation was unique because instead of going with a membership site, such as Amember, I wanted my forum to be the membership site. I wanted my forum to be private and only customers of ReviewAZON would have access.

I also needed integration with e-Junkie since they handle the ecommerce end of things. They have the ability to push certain pieces of information to a URL that you specifiy and I utilized that to capture information that my customers would use to sign up on the forum into an external database.

I am sure there are lots of other forums that can do something similar, but I have been extremly pleased with the integration aspect as well as the adminitration aspect of phpBB. As a developer, I love the fact that I can build in special "plugins" that help me provide certain features I need to manage my business.

      Hope this helps you.

      Best,

      Brad

Aubrey, have a look at the OnePress Community's
official support forum - it is full of spam. They
    obviously have a few problems.

Steve, that was a good point. Do you or anyone else know an alternative that bridges WordPress and phpBB together?
