Building a List & Business Using Traffic Exchanges and/or Safelists

What is your experiences with building a list using traffic exchanges and safelists? There are lots of people involved in them looking for opportunities. Really easy to get people to your splash page or squeeze page. Has anyone had any success doing this? And how responsive is your list? Just wondering...

Both safelists and Traffic Exchanges as well as Text Ad Exchanges can deliver leads.

The secret is to get inside the mindset of the Safelist/TE user.

They already have an opportunity that they're advertising - you need to capture their attention by offering something that will actually prick their attention.

      Higher conversion rates,
      Better advertising,
      Free advertising
      Safelist Marketing strategies all work

Here's where most people get it wrong!

They concentrate on the numbers of leads, when they should be concentrating on the targeting and quality of the leads.

Now I've used Safelists and made sales in the IM market but, let's face it, the members are mainly freebie seekeers, not serious prospects who are willing to commit and spend money.

Use them if you wish but there are vastly better ways to latch on to prospects who will convert well to sale.

They can and do work. Make sure you aren't promoting the same stuff as everyone else: affiliate programs, feeder matrixes, other safelists. Those may as well be blank ads.

Promote your squeeze page offering a UNIQUE freebie that will be useful to a safelist audience. Something that will help them improve their current business, rather than a new venture all together. Remember who the audience is and why they are there. They are trying to grow their business in one way or another. Offer them a way to do this.

Also, don't worry that your emails will get lost in the flood of safelist emails that are likely ending up an an inbox of an address used specifically to receive the massive amounts of safelist junk. Many safelists show the total member count as well as the upgraded member count. You'll see that there usually aren't many upgraded members. What does this mean? Most of the active users are reading emails on the site, click links, viewing pages, etc. in order to earn credits to post their own ads. Your ad WILL get seen this way.

There are a ton of decent sized safelists that allow you to add banners, buttons, text-links, and more. You don't have to rely on people opening your email in their inbox, as these sites provide many other opportunities for exposure.

List Hoopla regularly provides stats and rankings for various SLs, TEs, etc.

A little Googling and you can find promo codes for tons of free credits.

Are safelists the most effective form of advertising? No, certainly not. But they can be useful and they can produce good results. Once you've set up your advertising on one or two safelists, it should take you very little time to set it up on others, as most use the same few templates.

It drives me crazy when people write them off completely. If you market the right things in the right ways, they can definitely be effective.

Forget how many leads you are getting, how well are they converting into customers?

Yes, you can get very targeted traffic

    from Safelists.

I'm using it to build my list with free offers.

If you upgrade, your exposure will be HUGE.

Sure if you are happy to have your inbox inundated with members of the traffic exchange or safelist you're a member with..
You would be better of getting more targeted traffic through Facebook, you tube and solo's just make sure the solo is quality.

If you're short-sighted enough to use your primary email address for a safelist/TE, then you deserve the mountain of email you receive. You are aware that you can create multiple email addresses, right? Heck, you even COULD use your primary email, and just create a simple filter.

That's really a lame reason to disregard the value of safelists.

@dmark I have several email addresses myself for different purposes, the fact remains that traffic exchanges and safelists are not all that effective in building your list or traffic..and honestly not a very good use of time and resources.

I have used traffic exchange in the past and would never use them again when there are more effective means of getting traffic/list building..solo adds being a hell of a lot better.

I have to agree (and not only because the poster is another Kiwi )

The only safelists I use, occasionally, now are a few that I purchased a Lifetime membership off way back when I was younger and dumber.

In the IM space even Solo's are marginal quality, you get the optins all right but buyers are few and far between.

Certainty my team is not enjoying their high conversions by relying only on solos.

I tried some of these way back when and most of the leads are crap, mostly just freebie seekers.

heh, well they work fine for me. and i use my main email address too. in fact my safelist messages are even auto filtered into 'safelists/monday', 'safelists/tuesday', etc, i simply click on the folder matching the current day, and i use autohotkey to open 5-10 of those emails, and to search for and click on the credit link,so all i have to do is match the verifiaction image. When i'm not feeling lazy though i actually cherry pick by subject especially if i'm lokkingfor somethinnew to buy or to add to one of my funnels. I have some traffic going to optin forms and and some days i send traffic direct through an affilaite link and i do get sales, it's a numbers game of course and you *gotta* promote something that's to the point that can actually help *people who are trying to promote their offers and increase their conversions*, once they are on your list you can warm them up(even start one on one convos with a few at a time - they may not buy right away, but they will remember you when they see your name or photo again endorsing other offers, also some of them have multiple tabs open just trying to rack up credits so make sure your headline is right at the top of the page not halfway down below a huge header graphic, lol, and if you can use audio or video to catch their attention with a big benefit they'l hunt down that tab to watch or at least listen for a while - if it's annoying or not very targetted then they are not your prospect and they'll huntit down and close it(but you don't want them in any event)

I've also developed a script that can track users of safelists and traffic exchanges by their username which is usually in the url, and it can monitor what offer they saw and also if they clicked thru from teh splash/squeeze, so in a way it can profile each user and even lock them into a certain offer until they see it [7] times or step them through several related spalsh pages about the same offer so i don't show them the same thing a bunch of times, and if they for example clicked on a fake video image about SEO or Gardening it can show them more offers tagged as SEO or gardening. Not for sale yet though but i do have quite a lot of clicks logged - 2 ways to skina cat right - who says you can't target safelist and TE users, my script can easily rotate 12 unrelated fake video images and once a user selects one of them it can feed them more items in a specific sequence that match that item kinda having an autoresponder - only dif is that it detects when that user comes back aroudn and selects what shoudl be displayed - anothe ruser visiting the same url would get totally dif content that matches his click history profile - and of course you can add their name age sex country etc by presenting them a tempting squeeze page that asks for that extra info and have the script add thsi new info to their profile.(said too much already it's a secret project that i've been using for almost a year)
